I am very happy with our experience so far with Varsity Tutors. They matched my daughter with reading specialist Mary and she is wonderful! My 10 year old daughter feels happy after her sessions and believes her tutor has already helped her.

Certified Tutor

I have been passionate about teaching since I was very young. I had many teachers who set an example of how to teach with knowledge, compassion, understanding, and enthusiasm. I began following in their footsteps by volunteering as a big sister and volunteered with the Special Olympics and other community organizations. I continued working as a tutor, and camp counselor as I worked through my BA in Elementary and Special Education and my MA in Communication Sciences and Disorders. As I have continued my work as a professional educator, Speech-Language Pathologist, and tutor, my zest and excitement for teaching others and finding engaging and motivating ways to do so has grown. I find I learn things from my students and enjoy the challenge of shaping lessons to fit each individual personality and learning style. My favorite things to teach are subjects related to reading, writing, language (grammar and vocabulary), social studies, and history. I have experience in working with students with language based learning disabilities, dyslexia, ADHD, executive function and study skills difficulties, and autism spectrum disorders. I have specific training and continuing education courses that support my work in the public schools as well as my tutoring practice. I adore teaching the art and structure of written language as well and am a master at helping write and edit essays!

I truly look forward to the opportunity to both learn and teach you/ your student as I continue my 18th year of tutoring!
