Tutoring review by Katherine in Dunwoody, GA
The student was a friendly and engaged student hoping to swim competitively in college. Her practice test scores are CR 490, Math 450, and Writing 470.   She didn't have a paper copy of a test, so we began by doing some diagnostic sections.  We will definitely be doing geometry conceptual review, as well as vocabulary acquisition. She is fairly strong on the passage based reading, as well as on the grammar sections.

The student and I worked on Chemistry, and thermodynamics. He really grasped the concept throughout the session, and applied it very well by the end. He says he is reading a little History every few days, and doing very well in Math right now.

Today was my first session with the student. I believe she will do better on this test simply by improving her confidence. I had her practice her multiplication tables and we did a fun game with the dominoes and times table. Then we reviewed the different parts of the assessment test and started a practice exam. We finished about half of the test, working together and I gave her the rest of the test as homework. I think we made great progress today, especially regarding introducing the student to some successful test taking strategies and how to best use her time when taking the test.

The student and I began this session with some letter blend work. We first talked about some l and n blends, including -nt, -lk, and -lp. Then we talked about the "-ink" sound, and she did a great job not only sounding out words but finding them in a word search. We then did some more mixed math review, and finished with some work on shapes, which we hadn't done for a while. She did a good job drawing shapes and identifying the distinguishing characteristics of each shape.

Tutoring review by Joaquin in Dunwoody, GA
Today was our first tutorial together. The student is a bright young man. Today, we worked for a long time to get caught up on his missing homework. The first thing we worked on dealt with sequences where he had to find a pattern and put it in the formula. Also, we reviewed geometry dealing with finding the volume and surface area of prisms, cylinders, and spheres. We also worked on some probability, working out the problems by hand as his teacher had requested. He did a great job today.

Tutoring review by Aubrie in Dunwoody, GA
I reviewed the students' essays for college applications, as well as went over some SAT words with her. For her essays, I read through them, edited where necessary and then discussed parts she needed to expand on or change.
