Tutoring review by Jennifer in Yakima, WA
The student took a test recently, getting all of the questions correct that were on the current content. We spent the entire session going over old material in preparation for her final exam. Specifically, we covered adding and subtracting polynomials (both factorable and non-factorable examples). We also discussed the rules of exponents.

We covered topics such as constitutional and geometric isomerism, polarity, bond angles, cis/trans isomers, and organic functional groups during this session. We also completed several problems that the student provided on her own, as well as lecture material which was provided by me. Overall, she had the greatest difficulty at first with determining cis/trans isomers and polarity (dependent on determining the net dipole moment of the molecular). However as we kept working through multiple examples, she appeared to understand these concepts to a greater degree and was more comfortable in tackling the later problems near the tail end of our session. Overall, I believe that she still needs greater work in these questions prior to her test on Monday and we will meet on Sunday to do some last-minute practice.

In this session, we went over a test review for the student's physics class. We covered concepts related to AC circuits and finding various quantities such as root mean squared currents, resistances, impedances, and dissipated power through LRC circuits. We also discussed conceptual diagrams with magnetic fields, the concept of magnetic flux, and finding out how changing magnetic flux induces currents in wires and what forces are involved and induced in such situations. The session ran smoothly, and we got through all of the review for the test. If the student keeps reviewing the material we went over, he should do well on this upcoming test.

Tutoring review by Candace in Yakima, WA
The student and I checked in on her progress. She is finding the flashcards and word roots useful for vocabulary. She is also doing well with the main idea and detail based reading comprehension questions. The inferences and sentence equivalence question types are still giving her difficulty. We practiced finding the argument and evidence in newspaper articles, then we practiced making inferences on them. In the review book, we ran through sentence equivalence practice drills, and we also practiced only the inference question types. We reviewed questions from her prep course.

The student and I worked on an assessment that I administered for her level of math. This was previously discussed with her mother. We had time to go over her discrepancies and work through problems that she had a hard time with. I will be coming up with lesson plans for future sessions based on this which will be dynamic as her needs will of course change as we continue to work. At the end of the session we did 1 homework problem which dealt with creating linear lines with specific givens.

Tutoring review by Michael in Yakima, WA
Tonight, we finished reviewing for the student's pre-calc final tomorrow. We finished off the select problems from his study guide covering a wide variety of topics. These included solving exponential equations using log functions, solving population growth equations, utilizing properties of logarithms to simplify expressions, trig word problems, evaluating exact values of trig functions, and graphing trig and other functions. Overall, I was primarily there to check his work as he was able to solve all the problems on his own. His confidence has improved dramatically since last week. The final thing we re-reviewed from last session was quadratic functions and maximizing these functions. I reminded him to come up with two equations and then combine them to only have a single variable to solve for, and he was able to work from there.
