The student and I worked on science reasoning again, working toward getting more accurate responses to questions. With a few trials and focused strategies, she did answer the questions more accurately on a whole.

We began to go through and address the other items on the list for the midterm. We discussed the major aspects her poetry, and she showed me the profiles she had written of the Canterbury pilgrims. She also worked at re-writing a paper she wrote earlier in high school to practice improving her paragraphs. For homework, she is going to write sample responses to items 7 and 8 on the midterm list.

The student and I started with English as that is his weakest section.  He has a good grasp of all the grammatical and punctuation rules but sometimes doesn't apply them to the passage as well as he needs to.  He worked on several with no time limits and for this section we are just going to have him do a lot of practice so we can pinpoint what he misses and hopefully eliminate those mistakes in the future.  We also worked on Reading, which will focus on pinpointing where the question is answered in the passage rather than drawing an assumption.  He should complete a full length English and Reading passage for the next time we meet.

Completed pages in grammar book and studied for vocal test. Reviewed assignments for earth sciences. Reviewed past blog submissions and discussed future edits.

The student and I worked on both math and science today. For math, they are now learning arc sin, arc tan, and arc cos. She completed this worksheet with more ease than in the past. Her strong spot is her ability to visualize and analyze the different shapes. This unit features less algebra. We reviewed the chemistry project that she completed - identifying rows, groups, number of valence electrons, oxidation number, and other properties of elements based on their position in the periodic table.
