Calgary Handwriting Tutoring FAQ
As the modern world becomes increasingly reliant on computing and smartphones, the art of handwriting seems to be disappearing. Many students now learn to type with much more skill than they have when writing with pen and paper. However, no matter how much these things change with technology, there will continue to be many environments in which good handwriting is necessary for interpersonal communication. Whether you are the parent of a child who is just learning to write in print or cursive script, or an adult with less-than-perfect handwriting, you should consider contacting Varsity Tutors about personal, professional handwriting tutoring today.
For the young student learning to write, it is often difficult to coordinate the more passive ability to read a language with the active work of writing in it. While it is necessary to teach all of the grammar and syntax needed in writing, it is likewise necessary to practice the techniques that make for flowing and legible penmanship. Both in print and cursive writing, careful muscle memory techniques should be developed in order to form long-lasting habits that can benefit your child for the rest of his or her life. Instead of letting him or her develop bad habits early on, provide them with a patient and trained handwriting tutor who can help them work through the exercises necessary for achieving beautiful handwriting today.
When you get in touch with Varsity Tutors, you can speak with an educational director to craft a student profile. This allows potential handwriting tutors to view your child's specific needs, including any goals that may be set for them, their current skill level, and the type of handwriting they should be developing through the individualized tutoring. When you hear from a potential tutor, you can discuss your child's needs on a more thorough level to ensure that you are selecting the ideal handwriting tutor for your child. In addition, you are free to create a student profile for yourself if you are also seeking handwriting tutoring.
Upon selecting the tutor, you will work alongside them to create a personal lesson plan that will allow the tutor to track your process through each tutoring session. If you have a specific goal, such as learning cursive or even calligraphy, you can let the tutor know, so they can adjust the lesson plan to reflect this goal. They provide instant feedback to prevent the development of bad writing habits, while teaching your child important skills to allow them to write while they think simultaneously.
The quality of our handwriting remains an important factor in the first judgments that people form about our self-presentation. Therefore, it is important for a young child to learn to use good handwriting from the earliest period of practicing penmanship. Likewise, it is important even for an adult to cultivate excellent handwriting in order to maintain an impressive mode of self-presentation. If your handwriting could use some improvement, you should consider contacting Varsity Tutors today to find the directed help that can assist you in rectifying some of your manual habits and muscular memories. With a carefully crafted set of exercises that are customized to meet your particular needs, your tutor can help you quickly improve your handwriting.
Whether for adults or for children, handwriting tutoring is best provided by an instructor who knows the most effective exercises to employ that cater to your specific strengths and weaknesses. Let Varsity Tutors help you connect with such a tutor to help you or your child achieve handwriting success! Contact Varsity Tutors today to connect with the handwriting tutoring options available in your area, or to arrange for face-to-face online tutoring through our live learning platform.

Recent Calgary Handwriting Tutoring Session Notes
When we first sat down, the student asked me to look over the work she had done so far on her practice test. I determined that she has a strong grasp of how to perform operations since everything she had done on the problems I checked was correct; however, several problems were not complete. She knows HOW to do things; she just was unclear in some cases about WHAT to do. We then examined simplifying rational expressions, solving rational equations, and graphing rational functions. Over the course of the hour, she came to realize which steps were missing. I believe she is prepared for her test.
The student had his big project on a "tale" to work on. He had picked a book from the library on the legend of Hannuman. We picked up reading the book from where he left off the day before with his other tutor. After we read, we talked through the different parts of the project he had to do, and I had him work on the majority of the writing that had to happen: writing the title, the author's name, a summary, etc. This took just about all our time, and the other tutor was coming the next afternoon to help work on this assignment as well, so we stopped after getting the summary done. The student did great work even though we went a little over time and it was challenging for him!
I met with the student today to go over the review for her final that she has on Friday. The material focused on different concepts of mechanical physics - forces, velocity, acceleration, friction, vectors, and springs.
The student had a good understanding of the concepts, and was able to draw the diagrams for the question well. She just needed some help applying the proper formula to the right situation.
The student and I continued doing problems from all sections of the ISEE. He is doing really well. We focused particularly on basic algebra, graphing polygons in the coordinate plane, and the distributive property. He is very quick to pick up new concepts. For our next session, he is going to do an essay prompt to see where he is in his writing.
The student has a test this week in Biology on the history of Earth. We read through some of the chapters discussing how scientists are able to determine when certain organisms were present on Earth, the Eras and periods of Earth's history and what things happened in each. She will need to review this information again prior to her test and plans to make flashcards with definitions.
