I have had the opportunity to teach and to tutor thousands of students over my 33 year teaching career. I believe that each student is unique, and that academic skills and weaknesses should be assessed and targeted for the best results. I also hope that it can be a FUN learning experience! I love it when students develop a passion for a subject like Biology, or develop an understanding and/or respect for Algebra, Geometry, etc. Most important to me is that the student ultimately feels successful, and sees improvement. Learning is a lifelong skill, and the desire to become better academically or to pass a class with a particular grade provides the motivation and opportunity to grow! I earned my Bachelor's degree in Industrial Engineering from Georgia Tech, then went on to study Mathematics at the graduate level at the University of South Florida. Later, I completed a degree in Educational Leadership, which allowed me to combine my love for teaching with strong expertise in tutoring for exams such as the PRAXIS and FTCE. I began tutoring many years ago, and it quickly became one of the great joys of my career. I truly love everything about schoollearning, teaching, and being part of the academic journey. As a high school math teacher, I taught a wide range of subjects, from Algebra to AP Calculus, and I've carried that same versatility into my tutoring work. My goal is always to break down difficult concepts into clear, understandable lessons while keeping students engaged, confident, and never overwhelmed. I've even spent a fair amount of time in the Hospitality Industry in Las Vegas, which, unexpectedly, introduced me to the construction industry. Through all of this, I have been a professional tutor for profit and pro bono. I believe education should be available to everyone regardless of age, sex, or socio-economic status, and I utilize learning identification to impart wisdom in the most effective way possible for each student's needs. I love that magical moment when the student "gets it." Twentieth-century author Flannery O'Connor left behind two novels, thirty-two short stories, numerous essays, and one frequently-quoted observation: "I write so that I know what I'm thinking." In a similarly self-reflective spirit, I have come to believe that I teach so that I know what I have learned, and how I have learned it. During my first semester as a graduate student, my concentration within the English major was creative writing. In my second semester, I migrated to technical writing. My exposure to both disciplines has given me a great appreciation for all phases of the writing process, from the beautiful chaos of creation to the process of imposing order on what you have created: proofreading, header style definition, and everything else that makes a document look as though it had been as easy to write as it is to read. I've heard many students state plainly that they did not know how to write. I believe the first duty of a composition instructor is to prove two things to students: that they do know how to write, and that writing can be a rewarding means of self-expression, as opposed to the exercise in drudgery that students so often think it is. What I have found, in teaching both English and math, is that assignments should not simply be explained and repeated until the students catch on. Rather, the instructor should look for engaging illustrations of the concepts that underlie those assignments, so that they are easier to understand and more enjoyable to complete.

I have been coaching students to their best performance in math for seven years. I am fluent in all levels of math, primary, secondary, and freshman/sophomore university level. I am also fluent with the mathematics which one may find on the ACT, SAT, GRE, ASVAB, CLEP test and most standardized test. My background in Engineering also gives me a level of confidence with computer science and general sciences such as physics and chemistry. I have over a year of study in each myself. Overall, I have had much success working with students in various languages and levels of computer programming.
