I am a third-year Psychology major at Reed College in Portland, OR. I work as a researcher in a cognitive neuroscience lab studying human perception, and I am interested in pursuing a graduate degree in neuroscience. I have always been drawn to tutoring and mentorship roles, beginning when I joined my high school's Advancement Via Individual Determination (AVID) program as a peer tutor. Currently, I tutor other students at my college in Writing and Humanities through my college's Academic Support Center.I love helping students feel more comfortable with all aspects of the writing process, including brainstorming ideas, creating strong arguments, and outlining/revising written assignments. I also enjoy working with students on the SAT, especially the Evidence-Based Reading and Writing section.In my spare time, I'm hiking, making music, and learning programming languages!

I have a Bachelors degree from Western New England University, with a concentration in Marketing, althoug of late my passion has been tutoring English as a second language. My experience is in teaching children ages 3 - 13. For the last 2 years I have taught over 530 students as an ESL teacher for VIP Kid. I have obtained Teaching Certifications including most recently the TEFL, TESOL, and Advanced TESOL. I enjoy an active fun class time while still focusing on learning and proper pronunciation. I pride myself on having a patient and caring way. In my classroom, student's have fun while learning English. I'm the Mother of 3 sons. In my free time, I love reading, cooking, card games, and watching my son play High School Hockey and Lacrosse. I am a graduate of Linfield College and a certified secondary ELA and middle level math teacher. I am passionate about helping students build confidence and reach their potential in and out of the classroom. My experience includes teaching 6-9th grade math in Oregon middle schools as well as student teaching and aiding in both English and mathematics classrooms. Some of my personal favorite topics to teach are narrative and argumentative writing, algebra I, and pre-algebra.With the impact of COVID-19 on students around the world, it is more important than ever that students enjoy and feel confident about learning. I approach tutoring with three primary goals: increasing student agency, empowering students with a love of learning, and improving academic skills and confidence.I always start by asking what students hope to get out of our sessions and what questions or topics they want to address. I also have my Bachelors of Science in Zoo Science from Friends University and an Associates degree in Liberal Arts - Math and Science - from Bristol Community College. I really enjoy tutoring and bringing a tutee from a place where they are vulnerable and confused to a place where they are comfortable and confident. I enjoy tutoring Mathematics the most out of my subjects because I've always easily understood Math and find it is where students typically have the most difficulty. Although Mathematics is my favorite, I also tutor in public speaking, science, and English. Beyond tutoring, I really enjoy reading and doing anything that involves the outdoors.

I am especially passionate about tutoring mathematics, given that I have a very thorough understanding of all facets of the subject, and have always been gifted at helping pass that understanding onto my students. I also tutor subject tests, such as the SAT, ACT, and AP tests, and can give my tutees a feeling of true confidence when they sit down to take those exams.I have found that the biggest obstacle that students face is a lack of self-esteem, and approach my clients with the hope of teaching them self-assurance first, and the subject matter second.
