Mr. D. was able to keep my daughter engaged and interested the entire session. He made her feel confident with reading. She stated that he was the "best teacher in the world". She gave him two thumbs up and a heart. I'm very pleased with my investment towards my child's education using Varsity Tutors.

We've helped thousands of learners of all ages improve their reading and English skills including teaching English as a second language.

Do they have an IEP or 504 plan? (We have tutors that specialize in learning differences)

The tutor that was paired with my daughter was perfect and fits Bella's needs. Bella struggles with attention and has been on a 504 plan for years. The tools used, the interaction and flexibility are priceless. I was hesitant at first but now I'd do it again and I recommend Varsity Tutors!!

ACT Reading Tutoring review by Frank in Franklin Park, IL
The student was ready for this test last week. I think he'll do very well and he seems to have a better than 90% response rate, judging by the practice tests and questions that we have used over the last two weeks. I anticipate an excellent score. Today was reviewing previously established strategy and polishing the knowledge base.

ACT Reading Tutoring review by Marina in Franklin Park, IL
Since this was the last time we would meet before the test, I answered a few "last minute" questions that the student had about the exam and what to expect on test day. We also did more drills. I made sure to have her practice keeping track of her own time as well as what to do when she is completely stuck on a question or on an entire passage.

ACT Reading Tutoring review by Kristyn in Franklin Park, IL
Today we covered the reading section and some points on the math section. In the reading section, the student struggles more with the Humanities and Prose passages over the Social and Natural Science passages. This may be because the humanities and prose passages tend to be analytical, biased, or narrative in nature. We worked through a number of short passages so that he could work on identifying theme and purpose. He has 2 prose passages to work through for homework. In the math section we reviewed GCF and LCM. I also covered basic quadratic equation material, area equations, perimeters, and trig functions. He has a good understanding of most math concepts. We will just need to keep refreshing his memory on concepts that he hasn't used recently.

ACT Reading Tutoring review by Patricia in Franklin Park, IL
The student and I spent our first session reviewing her previous ACT scores and focusing on the reading section. She did well on the prose fiction sections, but seemed to struggle more with the social sciences and humanities sections. We read the sample passages together and went through the practice questions before she took the reading section of the practice test. We had time to score her answers, and we will go over them first thing next session.

ACT Reading Tutoring review by Evan in Franklin Park, IL
We started by checking to see how her reading assessment was when she wasn't discouraged by having just taken the math section, and she did phenomenally well compared to how she did on the actual test, answering 3/4 questions correctly. We went through and discussed how she should think of the rest of the questions, as there were similarities that allowed us to aim even higher than that next time. We then briefly touched on the Math section.

ACT Reading Tutoring review by Lea in Franklin Park, IL
Today we went over how to go about the reading section. We went over the first method he has been learning, but I also gave him another option to go about the section. I timed him half and half doing each method so we could see which method he moved faster on and finished with the best accuracy. Both were pretty similar however I feel as though he is more comfortable with the first method because that is what he has been practicing. Timing is still an issue but since this is the first time we worked on the reading section I am not too concerned cause we are developing a way for him to speed things up. Next time we will be working on the English section again.
