ACT English Tutoring review by Jessica in Oklahoma City, OK
Today we reviewed a number of math concepts to check in and make sure lessons we started with are still fresh in the student's mind. He did very well in the math section and recalled a great deal of what we have reviewed. At times he will forget details of equations but once he completes the problem he will catch the mistake and re-do the problem. This is something we can continue to work on and review so it doesn't hurt him in terms of timing but I think it is very promising that he can correct his own mistake. After that, we worked on a science section which he completed for homework. He made quite a few mistakes so I had him go through and summarize each experiment for me before he completed the question. When he did that, he got many more questions right. I gave him another science section for homework tonight so that he can try again without rushing and using the strategy of summarizing the experiments before he answers the questions.

The student and I switched topics tonight and focused on the ACT test. We started by reviewing the differences in terms of setup and question type and then proceeded to practice with several of the sections in order to enable him to get a feel for the material.

ACT English Tutoring review by Alex in Oklahoma City, OK
The student took his ACT exam last weekend and said he felt he did well except on managing his time during the math section. Because his main issue with the math seems to be timing and getting down some little tricks for logic questions, we will mainly work on time management strategies and incorporate lessons on specific problems as needed. I will also be assigning him sections/practice sets to do between sessions to keep him practicing in the time leading up to his next exam. Today we worked on a few concepts and primarily ran through questions three times: once to get all the easy points, again to answer all the longer questions, and a third time for all the hard/involved questions. Getting used to this strategy should help make sure he uses it on the next exam so I will be double-checking he follows this pattern for question triage on all his practice leading up to his next ACT round.
