In this session we mostly worked on the student's lab assignment that he has due this week. We went through the 5 senses and discussed the types of receptors associated with each type of sense. We also discussed the different immune cells, viruses, and bacteria. He has a test coming up next week so we discussed his study strategy as well testing tips. I told him that he should utilize the free videos online that outline each of the topics that he is working on.

In this session, I went over all of the new key vocabulary words for the topic of Genetics, that she started learning in class. She made blank flashcards without definitions, and then I had her sort them out, based on which definitions she felt like she knew already. I went over those words first, then she wrote the definitions of the words she knew already.

This log covers two video chat sessions on 3/10 (90 min) and 3/11 (60 min). The student and I continued to review for his exam on 3/12. I can tell that he is investing more time into studying on his own and that is paying off greatly! During the first of these sessions, he worked on identifying key people and experiments and by the second session he had made great progress. We reviewed and completed the class study guide and worksheets over the first half of chapter 8. He had a strong grasp of key concepts, people, and terms largely due to his own studying. I felt very confident sending him into his test. I left him to continue reviewing a couple of key terms. He is beginning to take the lead on developing his own education, and I am trying to reinforce that by having him direct me to the page in the book or slide on the PowerPoint where the information can be found.

Today I had a practice exam for her to take. This session was primarily for exam prep (the exam takes place tomorrow). We also reviewed the most recent information added to this exam, which was cell signaling. She is struggling the most with remembering the cell organelles and their functions. I left her the practice exam and a few other exercises to help her memorize information pertaining to the organelles. I also left her with some helpful study tips/methods. Her most recent lab report grade was an 86, which is a vast improvement and she seems to be making the most progress there.

Today we reviewed everything involved in pedigrees and Mendelian genetics. The student has a very good grasp of the subjects. We went over mono hybrid crosses, sex linked traits, and dihybrid crosses, as well as some vocabulary involved in the topic.
