This session we finished up translation and started the student's midterm review. She has a review guide that we went over and she got a chance to go over her last test. She missed test cross questions and she said she would practice them.

The majority of the time was spent preparing the student for his free response exam this Thursday. We went through and completed practice problems from his old worksheets and spent time reviewing errors in previous quizzes. Specific problems covered mono- and di- hybrid crosses, blood typing and inheritance patterns, and chromosome linked gene inheritance problems. He has mono- and di- hybrid crosses under full control! If he takes his time with the free response exam questions and re-works his practice problems, I believe he will do great.

In our session today, we covered ER protein transport, ER/Golgi protein transport, I-cell disease v. lysosomal storage disorders, chromatin structure and use of DNase to determine transcriptional activity. The student had evidence of a quiz from a previous week where she scored 20 (out of seeming 24/25). I left her with videos of many of these processes.

The student had an extra credit assignment that she completed first. Then we spent the rest of the session reviewing for her unit test tomorrow. Because we spent the least amount of time on chapter 20, we covered tissues, organs and organ systems first. We again spent a lot of time on the structure of a cell and the organelles. I gave her some homework, mostly reading notes and reviewing specific sections of the power point.

We reviewed for a test over cellular respiration that the student has tomorrow. Her test covers glycolysis, fermentation (anaerobic respiration for both humans and yeast), pyruvate decarboxylation, the tricarboxylic acid cycle (Krebs cycle), and the electron transport chain/oxidative phosphorylation. Given the volume of material, there was a lot to review! She was pretty confident with the material and had done some preliminary studying on her own earlier, so we re-reviewed everything.

We spent the majority of this session reviewing immune cells and finishing his immune cell project. He rewrote most of his information that he had written and discussed the different cells as we went through the report. We also spent some time organizing his binder.
