I have tutored and taught for seven years. My first teaching experience was at Mizzou. After getting my master's, I joined Teach For America and taught high school English for two years. Most recently, I taught composition and developmental English at Penn Valley Community College. My approach to tutoring is non-directive. I ask questions to help guide students to answers, which helps them practice critical thinking skills and deduction, rather than rote memorization. Overall, this leads to a greater understanding of concepts and a better ability to recall information and perform academic tasks independently.
