I'm not teaching biology to undergraduate majors at ASU, I research topics in aquatic ecology. Understanding the connectedness and patterns of environmental processes in aquatic ecosystems drives my passion to become an ecologist!

I'm currently the co-founder of a software-as-a-service company based in NYC. I left law to pursue my passion for technology and I've learned a tremendous amount by working in the tech startup space.
I am a graduate student at Arizona State University studying Human and Social Dimensions of Science and Technology, and am passionate about the value of education at all levels. Previously I worked at the US Department of Energy on energy technology in Washington, DC. I have enjoyed setting up roots in Phoenix over the past few years, and am excited about sharing my knowledge and passion for learning with others in the area.I have a knack for explaining complicated ideas to people in simple terms, enjoy deepening people's understandings of issues, and value education highly. All of these characteristics make me an ideal tutor for Varsity Tutors, and I look forward to the opportunity to share my academic experiences and skills with tutees. In addition, I can give an expert's perspective on a wide range of topics including political science, public policy, various topics in science and technology, as well as an academic success-oriented mindset.
I am a Computer Science major currently enrolled in the Barrett Honor's College at ASU. I went to high school at Brophy College Preparatory in Phoenix, AZ. I specialize in most subjects related to math... subjects such as: Algebra (1 & and 2), Honors Pre-Calc, AP Calculus AB, PSAT Mathematics, and SAT Mathematics.
I am beginning a Master of Fine Arts program in Theatre for Youth and Communities at Arizona State University in Fall 2020. I tutor a variety of subjects, but some of my favorites are Spanish, algebra, writing, and test prep. Watching students grow as learners and as people motivates me to continue my work as a tutor.
I'm currently finishing my final year at ASU's Honors College with a major in Creative Writing. I've worked in teaching and tutoring positions with everyone from first graders to college students. I just returned from spending my last semester studying in Prague, Czech Republic, travelling extensively and broadening my perspective. I also received the Flinn Scholarship, a prestigious full-ride award given to 20 of the best and brightest students in Arizona out of a pool of nearly 600.
I'm a graduate student and part-time college faculty member in the Phoenix area, but I grew up in the suburbs of Philadelphia. I recently moved to Arizona after working as a tutor abroad and am keen to continue tutoring here in my new home. Though I've tutored a wide range of subjects (standardized test prep, French, English, and History, to name a few), the sciences and math are my favorites. I genuinely love the sciences, especially Biology, and I think that this passion and enthusiasm make a real difference while tutoring. I began causally tutoring family friends in high school, and over the years I've worked with students of varied backgrounds -- from those re-taking failed classes to those applying to (and being accepted at) the best universities. I'm proud to say that I've helped all my students reach their goals, frequently pushing them to exceed their expectations.
I am a student at the Barrett Honors College, a part of Arizona State University. I expect to earn my Bachelor of Science in Applied Mathematics with a focus on physics in December 2022. While my degree has had a heavy focus on physical sciences, I have also completed a variety of coursework in social and life sciences to prepare for my post-graduation plans. After graduation, I hope to earn either a Bachelor of Science in Nursing or a Master of Science in Entry to Nursing Practice and begin work as a pediatric nurse. I decided to change my path from mathematics and physics to nursing because I perform best and feel happiest when I am working with others, which is why I am so excited to have the opportunity to be a tutor. I first realized my passion for people-centered work in high school when I volunteered with the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation to help educate financial donors and newly diagnosed families on the science of type 1 diabetes. My passion grew throughout my time in college, during which I joined a division of a Rotary club, which matches people of all ages with service projects within their local community, became a teaching assistant for a Socratic-seminar discussion and writing course for freshmen in Barrett Honors College, and worked as a student researcher in a physics lab, where I had to collaborate with my colleagues to address research problems and clearly present my specific field of work to others who were less well versed in the topic.
I am working towards a Bachelor's in English at ASU after two years at Mesa Community College. I am passionate about English and have a year's experience tutoring Algebra. I aim to provide individualized online instruction to high school students that is centered around their needs and capabilities. My experiences dealing with ADHD allow me to relate to students experiencing similar difficulties and to be a better tutor for them. I believe education is important and that every student is capable of success with a little help. In my free time I enjoy reading nonfiction, experimenting with drawing styles, and sewing.
I'm a college student at ASU studying Finance but I used to be an engineer so I have completed all math classes up to Calculus 3 including differential equations and linear algebra. I just have a passion for mathematics and I love to help others. Hopefully I can get them to not only understand math but also help them find a liking for mathematics.
I am currently an upper-classman at Arizona State University getting ready to graduate with a B.S.E. in Electrical Engineering as well as a minor in business due to my interest in finance. I view mathematics, physics, and computer science as a fun puzzle that makes something productive happen when you finish. I'm a Scottsdale native, an Eagle Scout, and love exploring this great state of ours.
I am a second year student at Emory University working towards a B.S. in Physics and Mathematics. I tutor in all levels of physics and math, and specialize at the high school AP and SAT level. I have hundreds of hours of experience tutoring in these subjects, and I love to help my students see the beauty in physics and mathematics.

Frequently Asked Questions
Yes, Varsity Tutors connects students from across Tempe's 81 schools and 20 school districts with personalized tutoring. Whether your student attends a Tempe Union High School District campus, Kyrene of Tempe schools, or any other local district, we can match them with a tutor who understands the specific curriculum and expectations they're working with.
Personalized 1-on-1 instruction is proven to accelerate learning—research shows it can increase student achievement by up to two standard deviations compared to traditional classroom instruction. Tutors working with Tempe students focus on Arizona's specific learning standards, helping close gaps in core subjects like math and reading while building the skills students need to succeed on state assessments.
While Tempe's average student-teacher ratio of 15.6:1 is solid, even in well-resourced classrooms, teachers manage diverse learning needs across 25+ students. Personalized tutoring fills that gap by providing one-on-one attention focused entirely on your student's specific challenges—whether that's foundational math skills, test preparation, or advanced subject mastery that classroom instruction alone can't always address.
Tempe students frequently seek help in math (especially algebra and geometry), English language arts, chemistry, and test prep for the SAT and ACT. We also work with students preparing for AP exams across multiple subjects, as well as younger students building foundational reading and math skills. The specific needs vary by grade level and school, which is why personalized instruction makes such a difference.
Your first session is an assessment and relationship-building meeting. The tutor will discuss your student's academic goals, identify specific areas where they're struggling, and understand their learning style. This information helps create a customized tutoring plan that targets exactly what your student needs—whether that's catching up in a subject, preparing for a major test, or getting ahead in an advanced class.
Varsity Tutors connects students with expert tutors who have deep subject knowledge and proven teaching experience. Many have taught in Arizona schools, hold advanced degrees, or specialize in specific subjects like STEM or standardized test prep. Every tutor is vetted to ensure they can deliver effective, personalized instruction aligned with what Tempe students need.
Scheduling is completely flexible and designed around your family's needs. Whether your student needs sessions before school, after sports practice, on weekends, or during the week, we work with your calendar. This flexibility is especially valuable for Tempe families juggling multiple commitments while supporting their student's academic success.
Most students show measurable improvement within 4-6 weeks of consistent tutoring, though the timeline depends on the subject, your student's starting point, and tutoring frequency. For standardized test prep (SAT/ACT), many students see score improvements within 8-12 weeks. The key is consistent, focused work between sessions—your tutor will provide homework and practice recommendations to reinforce learning.
