Hey, I am a Computer Science Student at Texas A and M University! I love math and coding and am excited to help you get through your classes and exams!

I am a graduating senior seeking to attain a Bachelors of Arts in Economics at Tufts University in Medford, Massachusetts. Next year I will be working at Oracle based in Burlington Massachusetts. I am also pursing a minor in Computer Science and Child Studies and Human Development. In high school I was a volunteer tutor at my middle school where I tutored students one on one in overall homework help and subjects like algebra and earth science. In college, I am apart of Tufts Tutoring where I tutor local Medford High School Students. I also have a year experience tutoring students in Physics on Varsity Tutoring. I have tutored three students in overall homework help, Spanish, and physics. Even though I have tutored students in a wide variety of subjects, my favorite subjects to tutor in are science and math. These are tough subjects for all students and subjects that I have struggled with in the past. Being able to help students like me that feel frustrated in science and math in school and in standardized testing gives me great happiness. Education and learning is so important and valuable and being able to help students through the tricky parts of it gives me great joy.

During my time as an undergraduate I also studied secondary education, so I am comfortable in classroom settings and other instructional environments.While I am most passionate about tutoring English, literature, creative writing, and editing, I can also help students with ACT English and ACT Reading.I believe that learning should be a tangible thing, something done with your own hands, ink and pen, real paper pages. The computer and the internet are useful tools, but they can get in the way of the learning process. Physically writing something down with a pen or pencil can help your brain retain information better than typing it. I believe in-person learning to be more effective because it allows the tutor to actually experience what a student is like so that the tutor can more easily adjust teaching metods. Though I prefer to work this way, I can't meet every student in person. And if a student truly needs my help this way, we can discuss possible online sessions.I have volunteered the Poisoned Pen, a Scottsdale book store. I helped facilitate two local author events, one of which was a young adult writing workshop. For five years in a row, a week each year, I also volunteered as a camp counselor for a summer camp for childhood cancer patients and survivors through Phoenix Children's Hospital.In my spare time I love to read books, listen to heavy alternative music, play trading card games, and watch giant monster movies.

I love to teach high school and college students in my areas of expertise, which are English language and literature, Latin language and literature, writing and test prep. I enjoy helping students achieve their academic goals which will help them achieve the future they envision. I am a lifetime graduate student by choice because I have many areas of interest. I have three degrees from Georgia State University, a bachelors, masters and specialist degree, in English, Latin, and Education. I also have a specialist degree in Instructional Technology from Valdosta State University. I completed doctoral coursework and exams in comparative literature at the University of Georgia and am working on a doctoral degree in college teaching at Valdosta State. I hope to be able to work with you and help you to achieve your academic goals because I love to teach and learn.

After many years of teaching and tutoring my enthusiasm for learning continues to grow. One lesson from early in my career sums up the approach I prefer to use. Good teaching means acting as a guide beside each student and it has worked well. With a BA in English from the University of Virginia and a Master's in Education from Shenandoah University that focused on teaching English to Speakers of Other Languages, coaching championship debate teams and professional experience in politics , I am confident in tutoring English, ESL, Spanish, Government and History. Through tutoring middle and high school, as well as college students, over the past two years I have honed my experience as a teacher to fit the specific needs of individual students. Most recently, I have worked as a peer writing assistant at NYU's Gallatin Writing Center, assisting college students with essays--ranging from personal narratives to research papers. I've also worked closely with a family of two children, now 14 and 17, and I have helped them with everything from deep literary analysis to homework organization, from Spanish flashcards to SAT prep, from short piano lessons to high school admissions quizzes.In May, I graduated with Summa Cum Laude honors from NYU's Gallatin School of Interdisciplinary Study. In addition to my experience tutoring, I have taught instrument instruction, music history, and songwriting to groups of 5-15 children every summer for six years, and now run a series of week-long music intensive programs in Brooklyn. As Director for this nonprofit program, I am not only in charge of developing appropriate curriculum for groups of children with diverse interests, but also of training a staff of 30+ teaching artists to be effective teachers and mentors.As a tutor, I will be most effective with kids ages 10+ of all genders, especially those encountering difficulties around reading and writing.
