Physics and Chemistry were my favorite area of science from grade school. Besides, solving math problems was like a fun job to me. I grew up fixing minor issues in a lot of electrical and electronics devices. All of these led me to pursue my higher education with major in Physics. One thing I love about being a physicist is that, so often, I get to experience, discuss, and solve the daily life incidents. Physics is in nature.I love teaching. I am currently doing my PhD at the University of Wisconsin Milwaukee. I have been working as a Teaching Assistant in my university for six years. This has given me a lot of experience on teaching the students coming from different educational background. Most of the students I have been teaching have been pre-meds, biology/biochemistry major, geology and pre-dentists. The best thing I have learned from teaching these students is that I always make sure the students have a good understanding of basics before I take the teaching process any further. This has been my key to success as a teacher.

I use my education and life experiences as a guide to living in general and in my personal interactions with others. In teaching, I combine my extensive educational background with related professional experience. I am willing to go an extra mile for all students who are willing to make a serious commitment to learning. It is my personal opinion, the use of common sense, will lead to rational and logical life decisions. Often this leads an individual to realize some things are not as difficult as they may appear.

Over the past 15 years, I have worked as an educator in a variety of roles. As a tutor, teacher's aide, and teacher, I have worked with students of every age from preschool to adult. I have worked with English language learners in the United States and Japan, tutored middle school, high school, and college students, and worked as a full-time classroom teacher. While my strongest areas are reading and writing, I also spent two years studying engineering and have tutored students in college mathematics courses. I am comfortable describing concepts in chemistry and physics as well. The result of my studies and work in education is flexibility as an educator. I am able to accommodate the subject matter needs of many students, and to modify my instructional style to complement the learning style of the student.Part of what I enjoy about education is learning how to reach a student in the most effective way possible. Drawing on past experience and finding creative ways to illustrate concepts is a stimulating and rewarding endeavor that usually involves a lot of smiles and laughter for both the student and me. I enjoy discussing and discovering connections between subjects, then using those connections to help create a deeper understanding of the material. When I'm not working, I enjoy reading (generally fiction and science fiction), playing basketball and running, and watching NBA games.

In all of my capacities as an educator and tutorwhich range from lecturing at the University of Michigan to instructing summer courses on college-application essays to tutoring elementary students as a Peace Corps volunteer in ThailandI continue to see the power of critical thinking when fueled by curiosity. I believe that this coupling of curiosityor "inquiry," as some of us call itand textual analysis can change the world. Being able to think critically about who we are, what we believe, and why we believe it given our personal contexts allows us to enter into new, exciting spaces where we can really, tangibly, impact our culture. Guiding this process is my passion.I will be starting my PhD (Media Studies) this Fall at Northwestern University and look to continue tutoring throughout my studies. Although that will place me in Chicago, I'm a Michigander at heart, having lived most of my life in mid-Michigan. I received my B.A. (Journalism) at Michigan State University; I taught college composition at the University of Michigan and Eastern Michigan University; and nothing makes me happier than strapping up my kayaks and exploring the state's rivers and lakes. I am confident in my ability to help students with any situation where they are trying to convey a purpose to an audiencebe it in the form of ACT/GRE prompts, college-application essays, textual analyses, newspaper articles, or just basic essay editing.I also have two years of experience teaching ESL from my time in Thailand. :)

Academia has always been an important aspect of my life. I have always taken my studies pretty seriously, but I took a greater interest in them during high school. I attended a private school where I was given the opportunity to discover a large range of topics I had never thought about pursuing, such as engineering and biomedical sciences. In college, I earned my Bachelor of Arts degree in Linguistics, while minoring in Arabic and gaining a certificate in Middle Eastern and North African studies. During this period, I started tutoring at my school's academic success center. I truly enjoy helping students understand the content necessary to succeed in their academic endeavors, but I also offer my students study and organization tips that will carry over to various aspects of their lives. Currently, I am pursuing my Master's degree in Middle Eastern Studies at the University of Chicago, which I commute to from Milwaukee.

Hello, As a retired physician with 18 years of clinical and educational experience, I have always found that teaching, tutoring and/or mentoring students was one of my favorite challenges with the most rewards. Providing patient care was certainly rewarding, but after leaving clinical medicine, I decided to continue educating by tutoring both undergraduate and graduate students in subjects relevant to pursuing a career in healthcare. I thoroughly enjoy watching students grow and mature as they learn to work towards their goals. Subjects I tutor include General Biology, AP Biology, College Biology, Cell Biology, Anatomy/Physiology, Psychology (all facets), Clinical Psychology and Medical Terminology. But, my real areas of expertise include Neuroscience, Pathophysiology, Psychopathology, Pharmacology and Psychopharmacology. Other topics of personal interest include medical ethics, the sociological impact of trauma and, the impact of the internet and social media on "post-COVID-19" educational platforms. After receiving my Bachelors of Science degree in Biology from the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee and my M.D. from the Medical College of Wisconsin, I went on to do my post-graduate training in Psychiatry in the U.S. Air Force serving military personnel and their families at Wilford Hall Medical Center in Texas. I then went on to complete a fellowship in HIV/AIDS psychiatry in New York City. While working in various clinical and educational settings around the country, I have had many opportunities to observe, understand and embrace people from various cultural backgrounds. It still amazes me when students come from abroad, knowing minimal English, yet strive so hard to achieve their goals while also having to learn the "language" of the medical field. And so my teaching philosophy is simple: ANYONE can learn ANYTHING if they have the tools, the determination and willingness to do so. Socioeconomic barriers should NEVER dissuade a student from receiving a quality education. Because every person is unique, I tailor my tutoring based on the individual needs and goals of my students. Therefore, I like to know a bit about a student's life, both in and outside the classroom. It is essential for creating a unique learning plan. I teach students "how" to think, rather than just "what" to think. This, I believe, is the cornerstone of effective problem solving and innovation. Asking Google or Alexa for an answer is not permitted with my students UNLESS the student has a solid grasp of the subject matter at hand. One of my favorite teaching techniques is explaining a complicated topic using everyday life examples or anecdotes from my experiences. I strongly encourage all my students to be curious, ask questions and then challenge them with questions as well. Ask me anything and I'll know the answer about 75% of the time; the rest we find out together. I learn from my students as much as I hope they learn from me. Learning how to take whatever data or information is given and then thinking about HOW to use it to solve a problem or arrive at the answer is one of the key elements to being successful inside and outside the classroom as well as in life. Outside of my tutoring commitments, I enjoy the solitude of a walk by the lake, reading a fascinating murder/horror mystery, watching vintage films, hanging out with good friends having "cell-phone-free" conversation and spending time with my ever so energetic cat, Taki. Hopefully if you are reading this you are interested in one or more of the topics I tutor. I can only guarantee that you and I working together as a team will get you over any subject matter hurdles you might have. Passing, failing, getting the A or satisfying a requirement is ultimately your responsibility. I am only here to guide you with ways I know work for you to succeed.
