I am a recent graduate of the University of Wisconsin-La Crosse with a major in Biology, a concentration in Biomedical Sciences, and a minor in Chemistry. I have a strong background in college-level biology, including cell biology, genetics, microbiology, physiology, and biochemistry. During my gap year on the pre-med track, I will be working as a medical assistant, which allows me to connect biological concepts to real-world clinical applications. As a tutor, I focus on helping students build a deep understanding of the material rather than relying on memorization. I tailor each session to individual learning styles by breaking down complex topics into manageable steps, using clear explanations, visual aids, and practice questions. My goal is to help students gain confidence, improve academic performance, and develop effective study strategies that support long-term success in biology courses.

Friendly, dependable, and enthusiastic upcoming medical student at UW-Madison starting Fall 2020. I started tutoring during undergrad for general chemistry, general biology, organic chemistry, biochemistry, and genetics. I find a great amount of joy helping others understand and eventually master the material. Naturally, I wanted to continue tutoring after I graduated and before medical school starts.Outside of tutoring I enjoy cooking, spending time with my dog and girlfriend in the outdoors, and competing in triathlons and other endurance events. I am looking forward to helping you achieve your academic goals!

On September 15, 2016, I passed the Test of Academic Proficiency (TAP) designed by the Illinois Licensure Testing System (ILTS). This showed my proficiency in math, algebra, writing, grammar and other literacy skills. On the same test, I ranked in the 90th percentile in Writing.I taught two years in inner city schools. The first year was Our Lady of Tepeyac (f/k/a St. Casimir Elementary School) in Chicago and the second year at St. Eulalia in Maywood, IL. The classes I taught included reading, math and social studies. Not only do I have experience with online tutoring, but I EXCEL at face to face tutoring. At two schools, my students improved and succeeded, because my expert tutor skills were utilized ! I have helped with beginning written assignments as well as editing. I have been called a professor, a teacher, a tutor, and a coach; but I prefer to be known as an educator. In each of these roles that I've played what remains most important to me are the lessons that transcend the subject. While a passing grade or a high score is a laudable accomplishment, I believe real praise should be reserved for the process. In my view, approaching a task with integrity constitutes a greater victory than any possible result. Self-reliance, a positive attitude, the benefits of practice, being responsible: these lessons enable students to succeed in both an immediate and long-term sense. These are the lessons that will empower students to better themselves in the classroom and outside of it. If I do my job correctly, my students will come to recognize that they do not need me to accomplish what they've set out to do.I have the pedigree to teach at the highest levels. I have a doctorate in Comparative Literature, I have been an instructor at the university level for eight years, I have taught internationally, and I have assisted students of all ages in everything from physics to philosophy. It has been a great privilege to have the opportunities that I have had to develop myself within this vocation. I believe, however, that my qualifications would mean little if they were not complimented by a passionate dedication to education. I feel honored to be placed in a position to help people grow, not simply as students, but as citizens of this world.

After earning my Bachelor of Science degree from the University of Wisconsin-La Crosse, I moved to Milwaukee to start my teaching career. As a Middle Childhood-Early Adolescent Education major and a TESOL minor, I wanted to teach at the elementary and middle school level. After 3 years of teaching in Spanish-English bilingual schools, I pursued my dream of teaching overseas. My adventures brought me to Ho Chi Minh City, Vietnam where I taught ELL for one year. While there, I enjoyed traveling, trying new food, and trying to speak the language! This is also where I began my tutoring career. I tutored students from grades kindergarten through 6th grade. As an ELL tutor, I used the Language Experience Approach for many of my lessons. I took students on field trips, built things with them, and made food together. We used these experiences to practice new vocabulary, read, and write. When I moved back to the states, I started teaching high-school students English with the Wisconsin International Academy. I also tutored for a relocation company helping children and adults with their English acquisition. This tutoring experience was very student-guided. I planned lessons according to what the student or parents wanted. These, like all my lessons, were assessed and modified regularly. As an ELL educator, I tutor all subjects. Language is not isolated, so all of my lessons are taught in context. My favorite subject to teach is writing. I love helping students turn their thoughts into well-organized, cohesive papers. I also enjoy the systematic rules to grammar and how these rules can be applied to speaking, listening, and reading! My philosophy of education is very student-centered. I believe in getting to know my students—their likes, dislikes, strengths, and weaknesses. Once a trusting relationship is formed, teaching and learning comes much easier. I believe in incorporating student interest, starting where students are at and working up, and letting students experience and celebrate successes along the way. I also believe in making learning fun, so I use a lot of games in my lessons. In my spare time, I enjoy baking and cooking, hanging out with my 11-month-old daughter, renovating my house (currently, I am refinishing an old hutch), going for walks with my black lab and baby, and grilling out with friends.
