Tutoring review by Christopher in Emporia, VA
I was very impressed with the student's current knowledge of algebra. Today we went over piecewise functions--how to draw them and how to develop equations with given graphs. We covered the concepts of domain, line equations, slope, and calculating values. She grasped the material quickly. Although she had not been fully introduced to the general line equation and had not had much experience with constructing equations, she fully understood the material presented to her. I provided her with general comments on the problems we solved. I recommended that she review the notes and apply them when solving these types of problems. Very well done today.

Tutoring review by Charles in Emporia, VA
Today we went over a practice test from the SAT prep book. The student's score has been improving steadily, not only in English but also in critical reading. We also discussed writing the essay for the first time. He has had some difficulty getting started, so I did an exercise where I broke the 25 minute essay period into shorter timed chunks, and we stopped after each chunk to discuss his progress and how he felt about the essay at each point. This week he promised to write at least two essays, which will be helpful for me to better evaluate his strengths and weaknesses.

Tutoring review by Christine in Emporia, VA
We spent time discussing Ancient China and Indus River Valley civilizations. We used a graphic organizer to highlight important facts regarding geography, politics, economics, religion, and intellectual advancements in each region. In addition, the student and I spent time comparing and contrasting features of the two regions. He has a quiz on this material this week and should have results next week so we can see how he scored. I look forward to hearing his feedback and finding out how it went.
