After many years of teaching and tutoring my enthusiasm for learning continues to grow. One lesson from early in my career sums up the approach I prefer to use. Good teaching means acting as a guide beside each student and it has worked well. With a BA in English from the University of Virginia and a Master's in Education from Shenandoah University that focused on teaching English to Speakers of Other Languages, coaching championship debate teams and professional experience in politics , I am confident in tutoring English, ESL, Spanish, Government and History. In my travels I have communicated in Spanish, French, Portuguese and Italian and I also enjoy fishing and baseball. May you enjoy success in your studies.

When I was in high school, a took a course in economics simply to fulfill a graduation requirement. I found myself unexpectedly enamored with the subject, and this is due in no small part to the incredible teacher I had for that class. I would like to instill that same excitement and passion for learning in students in any and all subjects. I am currently a third-year student at the University of Virginia pursuing a double major in Economics and Computer Science with a minor in Chinese. I have lots of experience helping students, especially in math (I was in the math honor society in high school) and economics (I often enjoy helping my friends and classmates better understand concepts they are struggling on in class). My favorite subject to teach is economics because I love the different ways of thinking it forces people to adopt when they begin learning it. My teaching philosophy is based in helping students recognize connections between different concepts, because I believe this helps contextualize the information, making it more applicable to the student and therefore easier to remember and apply to their future studies. In my spare time, I enjoy reading, playing trumpet, and parkour.
I am a true interdisciplinary; growing up in Ohio, I excelled in humanities, sciences, and math. I have always enjoyed learning as much as possible, including studying Chinese, Spanish, and French, enrolling in over a dozen AP and IB classes, and graduating at the top of my class. I went on to study computer science and global studies with a concentration in security and justice at the University of Virginia as an Echols scholar. Much of my free time at UVA was spent serving as a historical and admissions tour guide, and leading an oral history initiative. I moved to New York three years ago, where I have spent time working for a start up as a software engineer, and pondering when the right time to go to grad school is. I am happiest tutoring a wide variety of subjects, but have a soft spot for math. I enjoy working with students who find math intimidating or overwhelming, and helping them unlock their confidence and maybe even a bit of their own love for math!
I am a fourth year student at the University of Virginia studying Mathematics and Latin. I am going to pursue my masters degree in Mathematics Education. I have 4 years experience of tutoring grades K-12. I tutor all levels of math, reading/writing skills, and Latin. Outside of school, I am an Indian Classical dancer trained in Kuchipudi for 16 years. I believe that math should not be a painful experience, and strive to give tutees a stress-free understanding of mathematics concepts.
I grew up in Hampton, Virginia and attended the University of Virginia for college. I then moved to Georgia to start law school at UGA. I spent two years in Georgia and chose to complete my third year of law school in Washington, D.C. interning for a federal judge and taking courses at Georgetown University Law Center. I recently moved to the New York area and am working as an associate in Manhattan for a boutique litigation firm. I enjoy working one-on-one with others because each individual has different strengths and weaknesses and particular learning styles and preferences, and I try to draw on those in order to best meet a student's needs and help them achieve their goals.
I am an engineer with a masters degree from UC Berkeley in Mechanical engineering. I like to tutor math and engineering topics. I am glad to share my knowledge with you.
I have extensive experience in the education field, including teaching in the K-12 setting, school administration, working in the Virginia Department of Education, and teaching in higher education. The joy of my education career comes from helping students feel success in their learning and helping teachers refine their skills for the effective delivery of instruction to all students. Because of my background in teaching teachers, I am familiar with and able to apply the most effective teaching and learning practices deemed exemplary in today's schools. In fact, I have contributed to the design of some research-based practices in schools, such as teaching for character development that makes students better learners and citizens. As a teacher, I have expertise that allows me to analyze a student's learning strengths and weaknesses to determine how to increase his/her learning capacity. My diagnostic skills and procedures provide guidance in how to help learners improve their own learning and become more independent and self-reliant in their learning. Because of my knowledge of the developmental characteristics of different age groups and styles of learners, I am readily able to design teaching and learning experiences that begin where learners are to advance them forward. In addition, I have experience in designing lessons for the full range of learners, from students who need remedial support to learners who are accelerated and/or gifted. I am confident that I can work successfully with all kinds of learners to increase their learning and overall academic success.
I'm a graduate of Davidson College with a Bachelor of Science in Computer Science and UVA with a Master of Data Science. My experience in tutoring ranges from helping my sisters and their friends in Trigonometry and Pre-Calc in high schools to working as a TA for CS Discrete Structures and Data Science Systems; I enjoy teaching a wide variety of Math and Computer Science subjects. I am particularly passionate about the language of SQL: not only it is a vital skill for the field of database management, it is extremely fun to learn! I believe that teaching is just as much about how to learn as what to learn, and hope to impart those methods for learning in my tutelage.
I am a graduate of Columbia College Chicago and the University of Virginia. I received my Bachelor of Arts in Art & Design, and my Master's in Architectural History, with a focus on expatriate gardens in Tuscany. My work has taken me to multiple states and countries, from being a Teaching Assistant in Virginia and Texas, to tutoring children and high school students in Italy who wanted to learn and improve their English. While I tutor a broad range of subjects, I am most passionate about Art & Architectural History, Literature, and English. In my experience helping struggling students through projects, the most fun is in breaking down an assignment and looking into the interesting little details that make the larger project more fascinating or engaging. In my spare time, I enjoy napping, watching documentaries, and eating good food.
I am currently working towards my degree in Mechanical Engineering at the University of Virginia. I've enjoyed mentorship and tutoring since my 9th-grade summer where I was a tutor and counselor at an annual summer camp. Since then, I have had the opportunity to mentor and help those who come from low-income backgrounds to achieve their educational goals through clubs in my high school and even in my family where my sister has been diagnosed with slight autism.I tutor biology and up to college-level calculus. I love both of these subjects because it's amazing to learn biological functions and just appreciate them when you can actually identify them in your daily life. Math is just fun, I love it! I plan to use both of these interests to eventually develop low-cost, high-performance prosthetics to ensure equal opportunities for many others.I enjoying getting to know my students and typically teach by going through assignments/tests with them to learn and reinforce concepts.Outside of academia, I love computers, anime, running, reading, videogames, and just having fun.I believe that learning never ends and it's one of the many joys of this life.
I am a first year at the University of Virginia majoring in Computer Science.
Hi, my name is Tatevik and I am a 2017 (B.S.) grad from the University of Virginia School of Engineering and Applied Sciences. I am an Occupational Therapist with a background and interests in psychology, english, and math. I studied Psychology and Foreign Affairs at the University of Virginia and have a Masters of Science in Occupational Therapy from Tufts University.I have been an educator since I was in high school, I loved tutoring kids of all ages. As I grew older, my passion for teaching drew me to the outdoors where I taught snowboarding and outdoor recreation skills. Teaching is one of my favorite ways to share my knowledge and help others succeed, and I am so looking forward to working with you.
My name is Keva and I'm really excited to be tutoring again! I've tutored for 2 years with an organization called Mathnasium and I absolutely loved every minute there; tutoring is one of my favorite ways of engaging with academic material. I'm in my second year at the University of Virginia studying philosophy I have extensive experience with elementary mathematics, algebra, geometry, trigonometry, calculus, mechanical physics, electro-magnetic physics, and critical writing and analysis.Much of the experience I have with tutoring came through working with Mathnasium, but I have privately tutored friends and acquaintances in the various subjects I've outlined. My teaching style comes from a necessity to conform the way that I teach to best suit the way that the student learns. If I teach a subject a certain way and a student doesn't substantially grasp the content, I take it upon myself to change the methods and processes of my teaching. I've been able to do this with multiple students at a time, and I've made it a particular characteristic of my teaching whenever I'm one-on-one with any student as well.
I am a J.D. with significant experience in writing and editing. I have assisted tutees and other writers with crafting cogent arguments, structuring organized essays, and polishing drafts for style and tone. I'm particularly interested in writing tutoring and law school subject tutoring. My approach is collaborative and always positive-minded!
Hi there! I'm a part-time graduate student studying public health and data science at NYU, and in undergrad, I double majored in anthropology and biology at UVA. I'm originally from the Washington, DC area, but I currently live in NYC where I work as a research analyst at a healthcare real estate investment trust. My first job at 16 sparked my passion for teaching, when I was a math instructor at Mathnasium. I taught all levels of math through Calculus AB/BC to students ages 4-19. I've had the opportunity to gain more experience since, TA'ing chemistry in college and even getting to design and teach my own 2-credit anthropology seminar.I hope to instill the understanding that learning is lifelong and gradual, and I believe students deserve patience and respect while they navigate their own learning styles -- I'm excited to work alongside other passionate and curious minds while helping you ace your exams in the process :)
I am a graduate of the University of Virginia, where I received a Bachelor of Arts degree in Global Public Health. After college, I went on to get my Masters of Science in Biomedical Science at Tufts University School of Medicine. I am currently applying to medical school and hope to matriculate next fall. In the past, I have tutored middle school geometry and worked as a peer tutor in a college level introductory biology lab. I have an extensive background in biology and am passionate about healthcare. I hope to share my love of science and education with my students. I understand how stressful certain classes can be, and I will break down complex topics to make them more approachable. Outside of the classroom, I work as a medical scribe and enjoy reading, running, and listening to music.
I love math and love to help students figure it out! I'm a mom who has tutored her own kids for several years and a high school cross country coach. I have a degree in Commerce from the University of Virginia, an MBA from the University of Richmond, and 12 years of professional business experience. When working with a student, I like to get an understanding of how they learn best and spring from that strength to help them find their way.
I am a student at the University of Virginia majoring in Commerce. I have a passion for statistics, mathematics, and teaching others.

I'm a current student at the University of Virginia, working and studying in Charlottesville during the school year and Charlotte during summer! I'm looking forward to tutoring you or your children! I'm a persistent, dedicated student who has experience working with those younger than me and I hope to share my academic knowledge and experiences. High school AP classes are my favorite subjects to tutor. In my free time, I enjoy sailing, hiking, practicing yoga, and spending time with my miniature dachshund.
I earned my Bachelor of Arts with Honors in English Literature and Studio Art from the University of Virginia. In the coming year I will be attending the Art Institute of Chicago as a graduate student in the Film, Video, New Media, Animation department. Eventually I hope to teach at the university level. As a member of the community scholar program at UVa, I have mentored Studio Art students at the undergraduate level for nearly two years.I believe that learning is a holistic pursuit. Everything is connected. Basic knowledge builds to become advanced, nuanced knowledge. I want students to truly learn an appreciation for learning and to develop their personal interests and achievements to the fullest. I am excited to tutor English writing and literature as well as studio art because both enable students to develop their own ideas and creativity. For me traveling fosters creativity as well as a sense of community with new and differing perspectives, which is integral to learning. I've spent time in Spain, England, France, Germany, South Africa, Honduras and most recently, Argentina where I worked as an Artist in Residence. I am already planning more adventures in Central and South America for the coming year.Whether I am abroad or at home, I enjoy rock climbing, hiking, cooking and painting. I am always reading and keeping up to date on current literature and art. For me, all of these activities invigorate my mind. I'm excited to share these passions with students and to help students cultivate their love for learning!
Hi!My name is Kate; I've been tutoring since high school and have worked with students of all ages. My specialty is English Language and Literature, and my background is in both English and Drama, which gives my approach to language and tutoring a dynamic edge. I'm passionate about finding creative problem solving methods and fresh, engaging ways of approaching grammar and technique. My favorite book is Virginia Woolf's The Waves; I can't wait to find out what your yours is!
I am a graduate of University of Virginia. I received my Bachelor of Science in Nanomedicine Engineering with minor in Biomedical Engineering and Chemistry. I was interested in dentistry, so I also took pre-requisite science courses for health professional schools and Dental Admission Test (DAT) . Since graduation, I have been working as a research assistant/laboratory manager at academic/research institutions. I am in the process of applying to graduate school and plan to pursue my Ph.D. in Bioengineering. I have been continuously involved in helping students learn as a teaching assistant in college and as a private tutor. I tutor Algebra, Geometry, DAT and GRE math. In my spare time, I enjoy various family activities with my husband and Ruby who is a certified therapy dog. We enjoy hiking, visiting dog-friendly parks, and volunteering at hospitals.
I am a rising fourth-year student at the University of Virginia studying Statistics and Public Policy. After graduating I hope to pursue a career in consulting or data analysis. I have experience tutoring many math courses including Algebra 1 and 2, Geometry, Trigonometry, Pre-Calculus, Calculus 1, Business Calculus, and Statistics. I can help students study for all sorts of subjects, as well as standardized tests, especially the Math sections of those tests. I am also able to work with younger students to help them build a strong academic foundation for their scholastic future. I am flexible to the needs of my students and aim to achieve significant academic improvement.
When I think about what makes a great tutor, I think about what I would like in a tutor for myself. They should be approachable, helpful, patient, friendly, flexible, and reliable. I feel as though I encapsulate all of these traits and then some. I am an extrovert with introvert tendencies; so I am able to relate to different types of students, whether they are loud and boisterous or quiet and reserved. I love helping others, not because I feel good about myself, but I genuinely enjoy seeing people "get" the material and giving back. Patience, I was just fortunate to always have it. I have had to tutor groups of elementary school friends, which one could imagine how unfocused they could be. I have the ability to work with someone, whether they pick something up immediately or takes lots of repetition.I've got years of experience volunteer tutoring with different organizations from the Day in the Life Program in Charlottesville, VA to mentoring middle school and high school students through the national programs of Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity, Inc. Being flexible and reliable are important to me because we don't know how a student learns so we cannot just expect them to learn the same. Lastly, I just care about making relationships with my students. The biggest thing I have noticed from past experiences is that if a student likes their tutor, he or she are more likely to want to learn and do better. I am currently working on my M.S with required lab so my availability will be in the late afternoon through the evening. Additionally, the M.S will also require me to stay around even during the summertime. With that being said, I will be able to work year around.
I have worked with numerous students for the VA and FL exams, and have had students for AL, IL, IN, OH, TX, WV, and CA exams. After over three decades of being licensed in numerous states, I can guide you thought getting to know what's important. I have been licensed in VA, PA, MD, and DC, and I have earned the CCIM designation.Real estate is interesting and fun. To be successful, you have to work hard and know the laws and regulations.Currently, I am a licensed broker in VA and PA, and go through re-licencing every two years for both, so I am current on typical laws and regulations.
I am a graduate of the University of Virginia and the University of Colorado. I received my Bachelor of Science in Systems Engineering and my Masters Degree in Computer Science. I have been teaching for over 30 years. I started teaching when I was living overseas with my husband and teaching was one of the few jobs available. I found out that I love teaching, so I continued teaching when we returned to the United States first at the community college level but then at the middle and high school level as I followed my children's progress through school. As a military family we moved 16 times, so I have traveled extensively. Although I have taught a variety of subjects, my passion is computer science. I love working with students, and I feel a great sense of accomplishment when they master new material. I believe living is learning, and I care deeply that my students are successful. In my spare time, I enjoy reading, walking, and spoiling our cat.
I invest in my students to facilitate their investment in themselves. I encourage a growth mindset; (taking) ownership of material; and feedback which is clear, concise but detailed, and candid but respectful of students' autonomy, dignity, and integrity. I firmly believe that education is critical to human maturity and am passionate about helping my students to see what is at stake - for us as human - in the humanities and social sciences.and, yes, even the LSAT! I welcome especially LSAT students. An aspiring lawyer (or, actually, if I am lucky enough, law professor), I will apply to law school in fall 2026. I have been studying seriously for the LSAT since fall of 2023 and have taken the LSAT three times (new one twice). I am preparing intensively to do so again in early 2026. I received a 172 on the August 2025 exam. I am passionate about sharing with my students my accumulated insights in taking on the LSAT. I specialize also in six AP social science & humanities courses: European History, Macroeconomics & Microeconomics, US Government and Politics, US History, and World History (Modern). I have worked with numerous students for each and am thoroughly familiar with the curricula and the exams. I am especially interested in helping students see, very concretely, how deeply ideas shape our world; and in improving their spoken and written expression. Last - interested seriously in the philosophy of Martin Heidegger and American constitutional interpretation, I welcome the opportunity to work with college students taking courses in these or closely related subjects. I majored in political science at UVA (B.A., 2010). I then received an M.A. (2012) and an M.Phil. (2014) in philosophy at Columbia. As a PhD student at Columbia, I served as teaching assistant for or taught numerous courses in these fields. I also taught in the university's pre-college program 2017-2023. I prefer **very strongly** to work with students who want to meet at least once a week on most weeks. The less often you want to meet, the better-served you would be by a tutor other than me.
I graduated from St. Johns Preparatory School in Danvers, MA in 2016 and am entering my second-year at the University of Virginia pursuing my Bachelor of Science Degree in Finance. The past two summers I have worked at Camp Christopher as a counselor and primarily worked with age groups 9 - 13 years old. I also have experience tutoring my two younger brothers ages 17 and 14. The subjects I'm most passionate about are Mathematics and Economics. The reason for my passion lies beyond my success in school with these subjects; I truly enjoy learning and teaching the subject material. I believe in giving every student the tools and instruction they require so that they may arrive to a solution on their own as this is the optimal way to retain concepts. Outside of tutoring I spend my time playing the piano, reading, playing football and basketball, and working out.
As an educator, I seek to be a positive influence both in and out of the classroom through my passion and patience to help students obtain a versatile education. In serving as an instructional assistant and 1:1 teacher for the past two years, I have occupied a role that lends itself well to working with students as individuals.I firmly believe that education should consist of teachers leading students to success (rather than trying to "lead success to students"), and teaching a solid list of fundamental skills is crucial to accomplishing this goal.My greatest strength as a tutor is my flexibility and familiarity with the content knowledge I teach. I have experience working with students from all over Philadelphia. In addition to having an alternative certification to teach through the American Board for Certification of Teacher Excellence, I am currently pursuing a Master’s degree in Education. I have also taken the Praxis tests and demonstrated excellence in the realm of teaching English. My greatest strength as a tutor is my flexibility and familiarity with the content knowledge I teach. Having this ability is necessary to meet all students’ needs. My experience working with students from all over Philadelphia has highlighted these capabilities and their importance to student success.
Hi everyone! My name is Archit Kumar, and I am a first year at the University of Virginia studying pre-commerce. I am very happy to be a part of the Varsity Tutors team and can't wait to help you succeed in whatever subject that may be.
I currently teach college mathematics at a private university. I am a favorite of both my high achieving students and my students who are having trouble. I try to make math interesting (it actually is) and I truly care about my students. Helping students who do not grasp the material quickly and getting them to understand is the most rewarding thing I do. I believe that all students can master mathematics and usually find that there is either some underlying but simple problem that needs to be overcome and the student will succeed. Often, a failure to fully understand some basic arithmetic or a lack of sufficent repetitions of the assigned material material is the cause of a problem. Both can be overcome with some extra work and understanding.Higher level mathematics is simply elegant extensions of the fundamental principals we learned in lower level mathematics. Some of the symbols may look difficult, but beyond that and as in learning a language, familiarity through repetition and immersion makes it second nature.
PHILOSOPHY TUTOR Having both a Master's degree and Bachelor's degree in Philosophy, I have taught various courses in the subject in the Baltimore Metropolitan area on a regular basis for the past 30 plus years. These include Introduction to Philosophy, Logic, Critical Thinking, Ethics and Business Ethics. Over the years, teaching these subjects in some of the best Community Colleges in the Nation as well as an HBCU (Historically Black Colleges and Universities), I have learned how to tailor my teaching style to meet the needs of students with a great variety of competencies and skill levels. I especially pride myself on my ability to present complex Philosophical theories, positions and arguments in simple straightforward ways that not only hold and engage students' interest but which bring along as many as possible to an adequate understanding of the material in any given course. This ability and nurturing mindset is what I think especially outfits me to be an outstanding tutor. Also, having both assigned and graded well over ten thousand essays and term papers in Philosophy, I can be an invaluable resource in helping new learners plan, structure and write assignments in an area which may at first seem new, opaque and strange.LSAT LOGICAL REASONING, LSAT ANALYTICAL REASONING These sections, which comprise the bulk of the LSAT thus underscoring their relative importance, test the sort of basic reasoning skills taught in even Introductory Logic and Critical Thinking classes like the nature of disagreements, how the addition or subtraction of evidence can affect the relative strength of inductive arguments, analogical reasoning, common deductive argument forms and the ability to accurately draw conclusions from them when they are combined into a set of premises, and common reasoning fallacies occurring in arguments in ordinary language. Having taught the skills which lie behind the reasoning questions on the LSAT, I can quickly assess areas a given candidate needs more work and practice and fill them in on background knowledge they will need to improve their exam performance.ETHICS, MEDICAL ETHICS, BUSINESS ETHICS Students whose moral compass was honed in a particular cultural and/or religious tradition, can often find themselves a bit overwhelmed when in an Ethics course they are not only presented with moral viewpoints compatible with their own background but are also required to master the basics of a number of perspectives in secular ethics which they may not only find to be unfamiliar but even incompatible with their own basic moral beliefs. An experienced Ethics tutor like myself can help them navigate their way through the maze of conflicting ethical traditions they must master a basic knowledge of without losing sight of their own moral stance.ELEMENTARY AND MIDDLE SCHOOL SUBJECTS While the bulk of my teaching experience has been involved with teaching adults, my own educational background and caring nature fits me well to tutor younger children in basic math, reading and writing. While a specialist in a Liberal Arts subject, having attended an engineering high school, the Baltimore Polytechnic Institute, has given me a strong math and science background, too. This equips me to tutor in these subjects.
I am a current undergraduate student at the University of Virginia working towards a Bachelor's degree in Computer Engineering. The subjects that I tutor are Math, English, and Microsoft Excel, Microsoft Word, reading, technology and computer science, and more! In my spare time, I enjoy reading novels, playing my flute and piano, and volunteering in my community and school. Education and learning is very important to me and I like to make learning as fun as possible!

I have had a varied career as a history and government teacher, lawyer, and small business owner.I currently own an online company and teach part-time. I graduated from the University of Pennsylvania with a BA in history and earned a JD from the University of Virginia School of Law.
I am a graduate of the University of Virginia where I double majored in Economics and English Literature. I spent the year post graduation traveling the world (Brazil, South Africa, Thailand, Australia, Fiji, Hawaii). That year enriched my life in ways that formal education couldn't, and it has helped me to view learning and teaching with a global perspective. I then started working on Wall Street and have been doing that for the past 10 years. I understand the pressures and stresses of academia, which is why I like to bring a sense of humor to each session. I am currently tutoring English Literature, Essay and Creative Writing, SAT Verbal and Math prep. In my free time I enjoy reading, crossword puzzles, and trail running with my dog.
As a passionate fourth-year Biochemistry student at the University of Virginia, I have over 2 years of tutoring experience in chemistry and life sciences, with a focus on Organic Chemistry 2. My approach to tutoring is highly student-centered; I tailor lesson plans to meet the individual needs of each student, breaking down complex concepts into manageable steps. I believe that fostering an approachable environment encourages students to ask questions and engage with the material. My experience includes working with students from middle school to college, and I find immense satisfaction in guiding them through challenging topics, as I once faced similar hurdles. Outside of academics, I enjoy participating in Science Olympiad, which allows me to continue sharing my love for science. I am eager to help students not only understand the subject matter but also develop a lasting interest in the sciences.
I have spent the past four years after graduating from University of Virginia (with a BA in Psychology) devoting my time to students. I have a Masters of Education in English and during the year I teach 9th graders reading and writing skills. On the weekends I have served as a writing specialist for seniors applying to college and during the summers I have worked as a writing and grammar instructor for 11th graders preparing to take the SATs. I am deeply knowledgeable on all things English, ranging from grammar and sentence structure to literary elements or shakespeare. I love helping students find strategies to master clarity of ideas and finding a persuasive, compelling voice. I am looking forward to working with you!
