I graduated from MIT with a degree in Brain and Cognitive Sciences, and I love using my skills and experiences to help empower others to reach their goals! My teaching philosophy is holistic, so I modify my style based on the individual while being patient and empathetic along the way. There are a number of different reasons why someone might not be improving in a certain subject, so I try to learn more about students so we can troubleshoot and empower them to take an active role in understanding what is and isn't working for them. I have experience tutoring a variety of STEM subjects for students of various ages and backgrounds and have experience using different methods to improve standardized test scores.

I am about to complete a M.A. in Physics at UC Berkeley, after receiving my B.S. from MIT with a double major in literature and particle physics. I love to learn, but I also love to teach, and have been serving as a tutor or teacher in some capacity since high school. I'm a veteran of the AP system and of the SAT, and a more recent veteran of the GRE, so I know what's tough about these tests and how to conquer them. My tutoring philosophy is centered around teaching the core concepts of a subject, so students have a good sense of where strategies come from and how to apply them. Ultimately I think most math, science and humanities is extremely interesting if you can build confidence and fundamental understanding, and I hope to share my enthusiasm with my students!
I'm a recent MIT graduate, and studied math and architecture, and believe learning comes from experience and example. When I first entered college as a chemistry major at UC Berkeley, my interest in this subject was spurred by cool demonstrations with explosive fireball and vibrant colors. Over the past eleven years and a student and researcher, my passion for chemistry has grown and I can appreciate not only the fun aspects in the laboratory and classroom, but how chemical principles undergird all of life and nature, allowing me to see what I've learned at work around me in the world. A deep knowledge of the principles of chemistry have granted me the ability to see beauty in the world and in everyday life, from baking delicious cookies to walking through serene forest groves. Chemistry has also opened up the door to understanding biology and the workings of cells and life itself. I grew up living around the world: Tripoli, Quito, and various states. I have a degree from MIT and spent 25 years at Intel in a number of positions. My hobbies are playing the piano, hiking, reading, bridge and bowling (yes, bowling!). I enjoy talking about anything and will often make stuff up just to keep the conversation going. I started tutoring back in the 90's in a program called Start Making A Reader Today (SMART). I found some computer programs that did alphabet and word recognition with animation.
