Ever since bringing refugee children up to and beyond grade-level mathematics while tutoring in the mid-2000s, I have always been motivated by a spirit of service to community, society, and humanity at large. Teaching and tutoring is one small but essential part of that ethos.

I have been tutoring and teaching since high school. I graduated from MIT with a bachelor degree in computer science and biology. I went on to medical school and have a masters in biomedical engineering. I taught undergraduate students as a graduate student and trained medical doctors when I graduated. I have worked in private medical practice educating patients and other doctors. I can teach all levels of math, biology, and earth science. I am also familiar with New York State education regents requirements. I have relatives in the teaching profession and help them with their lesson plans. I enjoy music, guitar, saxophone, bicycling, and chess. I can help you achieve your goals especially in math and in the sciences..

I graduated from MIT with a Bachelor's degree in Physics.I believe the most important skill for a tutor is to adapt teaching style to the specific strengths and weaknesses of the student. My in-depth knowledge and experience with improvisation allow me to flexibly change problem solving approaches based on what the student needs. I am focused on engaging everyone I work with and am keenly attuned to whether people are truly following along.As an actor and director with a degree in science, I am equally at home with "science-y" and "arts-y" students. I am there to help foster a love for learning regardless of how much the student may or may not love the subject beforehand.

I love helping people! Whether it's learning math, writing, reading, etc. or playing sports, I really enjoy seeing other succeed via my assistance. I try to relate to students in whatever they enjoy and in doing so, apply concepts to our like interests to work through difficult subjects as well as to help foster a good, professional relationship. I have tutored several students in both math and English in the past and they have enjoyed resounding success and continue to reach out for my assistance. When I am not tutoring, I enjoy playing sports (golf, basketball, softball, volleyball), playing with my dog, and hanging out with my wife. In addition, I am a meteorologist and oceanographer following my graduation at Penn State University with a BS in Meteorology. Finally, I am presently a student at MIT pursuing a Master's degree in Physical Oceanography.

I am an MIT alum and current graduate student at UT Austin. My degrees are in architecture, with undergraduate minors in Materials Science and Computer Science. I focus on building technology and I love applying physics, chemistry, and computer science to solve creative architectural design problems. Although I have studied architecture up to this point, I am currently pursuing a classroom teaching certificate and intend to teach high school STEM subjects professionally in the near future. I am passionate about helping students connect STEM concepts to real-world applications and have served as a Teaching Assistant for several college Physics courses.

I am an educator with over 10 years of experience teaching students of all ages. I am excited to expand my profession into the world of online teaching. As a high school teacher in Daytona Beach, FL, I have led classes from various subjects, including physics, engineering, and music. This has given me insight into a wide range of learning types and the approaches that work best for the individual student. Outside the classroom, I have tutored many that either needed help in a particular class or wanted a deeper understanding of their science and technology coursework. My passion is to share my love of learning with my students. My goal is to not only teach the material, but also to help the student connect with the material in a meaningful way. I am going to start undergrad at MIT in the fall of 2022 with the aim of majoring in linguistics. I have tutored elementary and middle school students in violin for four years, in addition to casual tutoring in history, writing, and languages. More important than helping my students reach the right answers is helping them ask the questions that will lead them to answers. I learn best when I find an aspect of the subject I'm studying that I'm passionate about, so I try to help my students find curiosity for the given subject. And I believe these qualities make me a great tutor.I obtained my Bachelor of Science degree in Biotechnology from Claflin University and then went on to obtain my Master of Science degree in Microbiology at MIT. Both my undergraduate and graduate training has given me exceptional opportunities to strengthen my critical, analytic and problem-solving skills through a variety of courses from the quantitative and biological sciences discipline. I have applied those principles to independently developing and designing experiments to answer specific biological questions. Therefore as a tutor, I hope to cultivate in my students these same problem-solving and critical thinking skills.While at Claflin University, I conducted one-on-one sessions with undergraduate students focusing on Calculus I and Biology. Prior to my graduate studies at MIT, I traveled to Buenos Aires, Argentina where I took part in an after school program focused on teaching pre-elementary and elementary kids Spanish and Math. Most recently, I tutored middle-school math to students at the Excel Academy Saturday program based in Chelsea, Massachusetts. In each instance I learned how to develop effective lesson plans and applied different teaching styles to cater to each student's needs.I believe that I can make a valuable contribution to Varsity tutors through my educational background, tutor experiences and my passion for learning.

I graduated from MIT in June of 2016 with a Bachelors degree in Chemical-Biological Engineering and a minor in Public Policy. I tutor in a wide variety of areas, but specialize in high school and college math and science, as well as test prep. I've been teaching in some capacity since I was in high school; first tutoring peers in math and science through National Honor Society, then providing more informal one-on-one help to fellow students at MIT. I've also worked extensively teaching swim lessons for the past five years, particularly to beginners. Both in and out of the pool, I believe that a good lesson is one where the student is doing the thinking. I teach interactively, asking questions, listening to students. explanations, and probing students to produce the correct answer for themselves. I want to model thinking and questioning strategies that will allow a student to be successful without a tutor; I endeavor always to work myself out of a job. When I'm not tutoring or teaching swim lessons, I enjoy reading (especially mystery and crime novels), distance running, and long walks with my chocolate lab Snickers.

I am a sophomore at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology, majoring in music and computational biology. I have always had a passion for teaching, and have experience tutoring students in a wide range of grade levels and subjects throughout my years in middle school, high school, and my freshman year at MIT through the Academic Teaching Initiative. I hope to help, and have had past success in helping, students succeed at whatever their goals may be; improved grades, improved standardized test scores, even college admissions. I am an incoming student at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology, intending to major in Computer Science and Molecular Biology. While I tutor a broad range of subjects, I am most passionate about Biology, Chemistry, Physics, and Math. In middle school and high school, I have experience tutoring a wide variety of subjects such as Physics and AP Biology. My teaching philosophy and goals are to teach complex concepts using simple, concise methods. I graduated from MIT in 2014 with a BS in Economics and minors in Biology and Public Policy. Currently, I work as a research associate at a development economics lab at MIT, and plan to apply for medical school this upcoming summer. I hope to combine in MD with a PhD in Economics or Health Policy in order to work on issues regarding Healthcare Delivery.Throughout college, I had extensive experience tutoring. I tutored writing/essay editing and SAT prep for a year, as well as high school math for a semester. Furthermore, I participated in a week-long Spring Break tutoring program in New Orleans, where I tutored 3rd and 4th grade students in math. Lastly, I spent a month teaching computer literacy to health workers in rural Togo in the summer of 2013.I find tutoring to be an extremely rewarding experience.
