- I have been a professional Civil Engineer for about 20 years.
About Me
I chose engineering for a career because I enjoy math and science and solving problems. Math was hard for me when I was young, so I think I have an ability to empathize with students who struggle and to find a way to explain concepts so each individual can understand. I love seeing the light come on in a student's eyes when they finally understand a concept they've struggled with. I have lots of tutoring experience, beginning with working as a teaching assistant for several semesters in college. I also spent a year working in a free inner-city tutoring lab. I have taught professional development courses as part of my engineering job and I have taught three semesters at Drexel University as an adjunct professor. I use math and science every day at work, so I can help students with most STEM classes. I also have to write a lot as part of my job and have a reputation as a good editor of reports and papers. I am also fluent in Spanish, having lived in a Spanish-speaking country and having close family members whose first language is Spanish. I have helped my son and the children of many of my friends with their school work for years and have also helped people (kids and adults) who want to learn English.
Hobbies & Interests
When I have some free time, I like to get outside and enjoy nature and sunshine. When I'm tired of hiking and kayaking, I enjoy relaxing at home with a good book or a crossword puzzle.
