About Me

I blankly stared at the black and white CT-scan at the front of the classroom. I think the brain is slightly clotted on the "Misha, come up to the board." Oh darn, I thought to myself. If there was any class I absolutely feared during the University of Pittsburgh Health Care Scholars Academy (UPHCSA), it was neuroscience. On the day our classes were assigned, I remember clasping my hands together, closing my eyes, praying, anything but neuro, anything but neuro. Little did I know that neurosurgery would become one of the subjects I love to teach. Tutoring gives me a myriad of opportunities to further my own science education. In high school, I took every opportunity to extend my knowledge beyond classroom lectures, from the national Verizon App Challenge to witnessing awe-inspiring open-heart surgeries. With the knowledge and information that I gained, at Upper St. Clair High School, I tutored at the Success Tutor Center, enlightening other students about what I learned as an inquisitive individual. More than a desire for a challenge by attending student's needs and to share my knowledge with others, tutoring fulfills my need for meeting new people, and learning about different types of people in the world. My love of science is only part of me. I am an international being. As much as I adore my background, I enjoy international environments. Six years of practicing martial arts earned me a black belt and knowledge of Korean traditions. Stemming from high school experiences at Model United Nations and Model European Union, I'm excited to get involved with University of Michigan's Model United Nations (MUNUM). I can't wait to accompany the university's TAAL dance team members as they take the stage and sweep trophies. Motivated to venture the unknown and solve meaningful challenges with students at Varsity Tutors, I am most excited to interact with individuals just as curious and determined as I am. As a tutor I am able to fully develop my many interests, fusing all the pieces of me into a well-rounded, well-educated scientist and help them do the same.
