Hi there, My name is Donovan and I am currently a Sophomore at Eckerd College majoring in International Relations. I love to meet new people and try new things. I have a BA in Sociology from Pomona College and held both volunteer and paid positions as a tutor during my time in college. I did everything from private SAT prep to large group settings working on 5th grade spelling and Calculus simultaneously. I worked in classrooms doing writing workshops and even taught English as a part of my internship while studying abroad in Senegal. Working at a tutoring center, I focused on upper level math and advanced placement courses. When I am not tutoring, I am studying to be an EMT. I also love backpacking and adventuring.

I am a professional artist and am interested in teaching those serious about art. I teach the basic underlying foundations of art; the science of art: the science of drawing, composition, color. If you understand this you understand these basic principles to anything in the field of art.(It's like learning to write by understanding the alphabet as opposed to memorizing lots of words.)And I'm a big fan of non-serious...and the two are not mutually exclusive.

My name is Daniel and I am a Mechanical Engineer who graduated from the University of South Florida. I have a passion for transferring my knowledge to those who need it, and I enjoy being able to drive students to success. This is why I tutor. I believe that my expertise, experience, and desire I possess will help my students achieve their goals.As a mechanical engineer, I have had to conquer STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math) related fields. I have worked in one-on-one tutoring sessions with a variety of students ranging from elementary school to college level.My goals as a tutor are build strong relationships with my students. My plan is to personalize the learning experience, incorporate the student's interest, teach to the student's strength, and minimize the student's weaknessesLet's work together and find the right path to success.

School, homework, learning; these don't have to be yucky words. That stuff can be fun, learning is supposed to be an interesting activity, and I make sure that it is. Before receiving my B.A. in Asian Languages and Literature from the University of Minnesota, I studied abroad for a year in China. There, I also worked as the lead teacher in a new ESL school for adults where I provided lesson plans for the school and utilized my own classroom format to engage the students. I also tutored several young Chinese girls in English where we learned by translating their favorite Taylor Swift songs and watching Justin Bieber on Oprah. I don't believe education should be dull or limited to pencil and paper, and I work hard with my students to find the best way to optimize learning.I am an avid long distance runner and podcast listener. I'm nuts about traveling and hiking and have lived in San Francisco and Alaska within the last year. But mostly, I love learning. Until graduating I had no idea that it was so awesome, and so essential to sanity and happiness. What's even better is when one is allowed to learn in their own way, so that it's not a chore, but a fun pastime.

Currently, I teach math full-time for the Denver Public School system. Prior to moving to Denver I acquired several years of experience as a mentor, substitute teacher, teaching assistant and researcher at the collegiate level. While in North Carolina I attended graduate school at the University of North Carolina at Wilmington. I conducted my quantitative thesis research at UNCW--which focuses on how educational inequalities perpetuate variations in the ways that individual’s access, use and benefit from Information Communication Technologies (ICTs) & the Internet. Moreover, I completed my undergraduate studies at Binghamton University and, next fall, I plan on beginning a Doctoral program for Information Communication Studies or Sociology.For fun, I have many hobbies--most of which involve being active outdoors and spending time with my friends and family. This past summer I spent a lot of time paddle-boarding at Wrightsville Beach, North Carolina—until I moved to Colorado. In August, I finished my move to Colorado and I have spent most of my leisure-time enjoying the outdoors: golfing, running and hiking.

My research and professional work have included automotive engineering, healthcare IT, and renewable energy. I have tutored elementary and high school mathematics and am available to tutor all math subjects up to and including AP Calculus AB and Physics. While the mechanics of math problems is important, I think solving real-world applications of mathematics is the true test of how well a concept is understood, and is much more enjoyable to learn. I enjoy hiking, playing with my dog, cooking, road trips, and working on my car.

I have taught Biology for 6 years, 7th grade Life Science for 1 year, and am in my 4th year out of the classroom as a science instructional coach. I love working through challenging situations with students and believe that ALL students can achieve at high levels. I know that science can get a little tricky sometimes, but I believe I have the experience and skills needed to help you succeed! A few more facts about me: I graduated from LSU in 2005 (Geaux Tigers!) with my Bachelor's in Secondary Education with a Biology concentration. I also minored in Spanish and studied abroad in Xalapa, Veracruz! In 2009, I began my Master's program in Teacher Leadership, which I completed in 2011. I love spending time with Jack, my 5 year old Pomeranian - he is the cutest! I've lived and worked in four countries, including Japan, France and Jordan.I've taught classes up to 40 and tutored both individuals and small groups up to four, working with a range of ages, from preschool to adult, and a range of ability level, from participants in special needs programs to students at one of the most competitive high schools in Japan.I am an excellent tutor because I am patient, engaged and encouraging. I seek out the unique needs of each individual and hone my style to best meet those needs.

I am a graduate of Concordia University-Portland, and a student at Regent University. I earned a master's degree in special education in 2016 and am pursuing a PhD in Special Education currently. Since earning my degree, I have spent the last 2 years working with children with Autism on academic and life skills. I also took the opportunity to earn a certification in Teaching English as a Foreign Language (TEFL). I work in a variety of subjects as a tutor but my passion is working with students with disabilities and learning challenges. I especially enjoy working on reading and grammar building blocks such as phonics and sentence construction. I am passionate about the benefits of education and making those benefits available to all students regardless of challenges and I try to make learning as engaging and entertaining as possible while still reaching goals.
