I'm a hiker, a reader, a giant nerd, and full of terrible jokes that will (shockingly) make tutoring fun.

I am currently pursuing my PhD in Literature/Creative Writing at the University of Denver. Prior to beginning my doctoral studies, I was a creative writing/English lecturer at Washington University in St. Louis where I completed my MFA and senior post-graduate teaching fellowship. I received my BA in Philosophy from Carleton College in 2009. Before my time in St. Louis and Denver, I taught English Literature at the Loomis Chaffee School in Connecticut and, earlier, at Germantown High School in Philadelphia. During my time at Loomis and Germantown, I taught English Lit I/III, Contemporary Literature, 10th grade grammar and expository writing seminars, Literature of the Sea, Experimental Novel, and Creative Writing. At Wash U, I taught Fiction Writing I, II, and Microfiction, and last year I facilitated pedagogy training for Wash U MFA graduate students. I currently tutor at DU's Writing Center and, beginning this fall, I will teach undergraduate fiction classes. I have a marked interest in modern and contemporary fiction, though I very much look forward to helping students with all craft/literature/essay writing/verbal test taking endeavors.
I am an experienced tutor who is passionate about math and science education. I have a deep understanding of math and science. I recently graduated from Brown University with a Bachelor of Science in Mathematics, coursework in both the physical and natural sciences, and a GPA of 3.87. I also studied at an IB high school and graduated with the highest marks in my class.
I am a recent graduate of the University of Kentucky with a Master of Science in Animal Nutrition. I received my Bachelor of Science in Animal Sciences from Cornell University. While I tutor various subjects, I am most passionate about tutoring math and feel that our school systems often fail students when it comes to math. I do not believe that some people simply "can't do math." I believe that some may need extra time and help, but everyone can do math. With patience and hard work, any student can learn. I also enjoy tutoring Spanish, which I have studied since I was in elementary. During undergrad, I even studied abroad in Barcelona and lived with a host family. In my spare time, I enjoy reading, dancing, TV/movies, and knitting.
I'm a high school science teacher with experiences in languages, writing, and the arts. I'm interested in helping my students decode and relate to the material in front of them, and develop meaningful connections with it so that their understanding goes beyond just skills and content knowledge.
I am able to help students with their studies using creative and fun methods. I love History and Literature, and I enjoy being able to help students learn the joy of reading. My favorite subject in elementary school was Math and I enjoy talking about fractions, the metric system, and the importance of knowing multiplication tables!
I am a native Mandarin speaker, and I got both MD and PhD degree from one of the top 20 universities in China. I've also passed the "national proficiency test of mandarin" when I was in college. Teaching and researching the difference between Chinese and English have always been my passion. Before "varsity tutors", I have tutored five English-speaking students from ages 6 to 20. I tailor my classes to different students' needs, and I enjoy writing my own "Chinese grammar and practice" book based on different levels. I am a super responsible and hard-working person. My goal is to help my students to learn the most with the least number of classes, and to make sure my students couldn't be more satisfied with me.
I am a graduate of the University of Colorado at Boulder. I received my Bachelor of Arts in Biochemistry as well as MCD (Molecular, Cellular, and Developmental) Biology while minoring in Chemistry in 2015. I love exploring all of the cool things that this world has to offer. By dabbling in a little of everything I can set my sights on what really holds my attention. My primary interests lie in the sciences, where learning what makes our world turn drives my passion for knowledge.
I am a certified teacher in English as a foreign language, certified to teach high school science abroad, and have developed my own independent program to teach elementary school children. I have tutored in all levels of algebra as well as geometry. I have 4 years of experience teaching biology, from AP/Honors level biology to 3rd grade level "Making Neuroscience Fun" programs.
I am a junior mechanical engineering student at Oklahoma Christian University. I have tutored middle school, high school, college, and post college age groups, primarily in math based subjects. Math and physics based subjects are my personal favorite to tutor people in, as these subjects are most of the foundation that makes up my mechanical engineering degree. I also enjoy tutoring students in ACT Prep, and it is my firm belief that the ACT is not as daunting as it may seem. Outside of academia, I am a passionate car enthusiast, and I also love skiing, eating, traveling, and photography.
I am a neuroscience and psychology double major from CU Boulder working to go to PA school down the road. I am originally from the East coast, but definitely prefer the hiking here. I was a learning assistant (basically student focused teacher aid) at CU, and took a course to learn more effective pedagogy. Afterwards, I was asked to be a mentor, and continued trying to help as much as I can.

Frequently Asked Questions
Yes, Varsity Tutors connects students from across Lafayette's 13 schools with personalized tutoring support. Whether your student attends a Boulder Valley School District school or another local institution, we can match them with a tutor who understands Colorado's academic standards and can support their specific needs.
While Lafayette's average student-teacher ratio of 15.6:1 is solid, classroom instruction still can't address every student's individual learning pace or gaps. Personalized 1-on-1 tutoring fills that gap by providing focused attention on exactly what your student struggles with—whether that's mastering Colorado math standards, strengthening writing skills, or preparing for AP exams.
Tutors who work with Lafayette students are familiar with Colorado's academic standards and the specific expectations set by local schools. They tailor instruction to align with what your student's classroom is teaching, ensuring tutoring reinforces and accelerates learning within the framework your school is using.
The first session is focused on understanding your student's strengths, challenges, and goals. The tutor will assess where your student stands academically, identify specific areas needing support, and create a personalized plan. This foundation ensures every subsequent session is targeted and effective.
Depending on your student's needs, one tutor can often support multiple subjects—especially if they're related (like math and physics, or reading and writing). For subjects requiring specialized expertise (like AP Chemistry or foreign language fluency), Varsity Tutors can connect you with a tutor who specializes in that area.
Tutoring schedules are built around your family's availability. Whether your student needs sessions after school, on weekends, or during the week, Varsity Tutors works to find a tutor whose availability matches your needs. Consistency matters for learning, but we understand Lafayette families juggle busy schedules.
Yes, tutors connect with students preparing for the SAT, ACT, AP exams, and other standardized tests. They can focus on specific sections where your student needs improvement, teach test-taking strategies, and provide practice with real exam formats to build confidence and improve scores.
Start by telling us about your student's needs—their grade level, subject areas, and specific goals. Varsity Tutors will match them with a tutor who fits those needs, and you'll connect for a first session. Most families see the process as straightforward and appreciate how quickly they can get their student personalized support.
