I am a junior mechanical engineering student at Oklahoma Christian University. I have tutored middle school, high school, college, and post college age groups, primarily in math based subjects. Math and physics based subjects are my personal favorite to tutor people in, as these subjects are most of the foundation that makes up my mechanical engineering degree. I also enjoy tutoring students in ACT Prep, and it is my firm belief that the ACT is not as daunting as it may seem. Outside of academia, I am a passionate car enthusiast, and I also love skiing, eating, traveling, and photography.

I am a licensed high school history teacher, but have worked with 2-year-olds, college undergraduates, and every age in between. I have previously tutored preschoolers through high schoolers in math and reading, and worked at a university in Santiago with Chilean undergraduates studying both English as a second language and the teaching of English. I am most passionate about teaching in the humanities, but find that working with students on any subject is fulfilling, including standardized test prep. Having lived abroad in Spain and Chile, I also know the importance of connecting classroom learning in Spanish to the actual experience of the language and am always excited to help Spanish come alive beyond conjugation worksheets. Regardless of subject, I strive to ensure that my students build the strategies and confidence they need to be capable, self-directed learners. My own interests include reading, camping and hiking, cooking, and rugby.

I am currently pursuing my PhD in Literature/Creative Writing at the University of Denver. Prior to beginning my doctoral studies, I was a creative writing/English lecturer at Washington University in St. Louis where I completed my MFA and senior post-graduate teaching fellowship. I received my BA in Philosophy from Carleton College in 2009. Before my time in St. Louis and Denver, I taught English Literature at the Loomis Chaffee School in Connecticut and, earlier, at Germantown High School in Philadelphia. During my time at Loomis and Germantown, I taught English Lit I/III, Contemporary Literature, 10th grade grammar and expository writing seminars, Literature of the Sea, Experimental Novel, and Creative Writing. At Wash U, I taught Fiction Writing I, II, and Microfiction, and last year I facilitated pedagogy training for Wash U MFA graduate students. I currently tutor at DU's Writing Center and, beginning this fall, I will teach undergraduate fiction classes. I have a marked interest in modern and contemporary fiction, though I very much look forward to helping students with all craft/literature/essay writing/verbal test taking endeavors.

I am a recent graduate of the University of Kentucky with a Master of Science in Animal Nutrition. I received my Bachelor of Science in Animal Sciences from Cornell University. While I tutor various subjects, I am most passionate about tutoring math and feel that our school systems often fail students when it comes to math. I do not believe that some people simply "can't do math." I believe that some may need extra time and help, but everyone can do math. With patience and hard work, any student can learn. I also enjoy tutoring Spanish, which I have studied since I was in elementary. During undergrad, I even studied abroad in Barcelona and lived with a host family. In my spare time, I enjoy reading, dancing, TV/movies, and knitting.

I am a native Mandarin speaker, and I got both MD and PhD degree from one of the top 20 universities in China. I've also passed the "national proficiency test of mandarin" when I was in college. Teaching and researching the difference between Chinese and English have always been my passion. Before "varsity tutors", I have tutored five English-speaking students from ages 6 to 20. I tailor my classes to different students' needs, and I enjoy writing my own "Chinese grammar and practice" book based on different levels. I am a super responsible and hard-working person. My goal is to help my students to learn the most with the least number of classes, and to make sure my students couldn't be more satisfied with me.

Frequently Asked Questions

Yes, Varsity Tutors connects students from both of Castle Rock's school districts with personalized tutoring support. With 27 schools and over 18,000 students in the area, we work with learners across all grade levels and academic needs—whether they attend schools in the Castle Rock or Littleton areas.

Personalized 1-on-1 instruction helps students master Colorado's academic standards at their own pace, filling gaps and building confidence in core subjects like math, reading, and science. With Castle Rock's average student-teacher ratio of 18.1:1 in traditional classrooms, tutoring provides the individualized attention that research shows accelerates learning and helps students stay on track with state expectations.

Castle Rock students commonly seek help with math (especially algebra and geometry), reading comprehension, writing, and test preparation for standardized assessments. We also work with students preparing for AP exams, SAT/ACT college entrance tests, and those needing support in science and social studies as they progress through their school years.

During the first session, a tutor will assess your student's current level, understand their specific challenges, and learn about their learning style and goals. This personalized approach allows the tutor to create a customized plan that addresses gaps and builds on strengths, setting the foundation for measurable progress.

Many students show noticeable progress within the first few weeks as tutors identify knowledge gaps and tailor instruction to their needs. Long-term improvement depends on the subject, starting level, and frequency of sessions, but consistent 1-on-1 instruction typically leads to stronger grades, increased confidence, and better test performance within 4-8 weeks.

Varsity Tutors connects students with expert tutors who have strong subject knowledge and experience teaching or tutoring in their areas of expertise. Tutors are carefully selected and vetted to ensure they can provide high-quality, personalized instruction that meets the needs of Castle Rock students at all levels.

Yes, tutoring sessions are flexible and can be scheduled around your student's school day, sports, activities, and family commitments. Whether your student needs help after school, on weekends, or during school breaks, Varsity Tutors can work with your family's schedule to provide consistent, personalized support.

Personalized 1-on-1 instruction addresses your student's specific needs rather than one-size-fits-all classroom instruction, leading to faster progress and stronger academic outcomes. For Castle Rock students, this targeted support can mean the difference between struggling and thriving—whether the goal is improving grades, building confidence, or preparing for important tests and transitions.
