With a BS in Chemical Engineering (U of Maryland), an MBA (U of Delaware), successful experience in business, and a continuing teaching and tutoring career at both the high school and college level, I bring a varied and deep background to support a student. Currently, I am a Professor at two colleges, teaching Marketing, Management, Leadership, Communications to young adults, and mentoring MBA thesis candidates. I tutor technical high school subjects like Chemistry, Mathematics, Physics, as well as Writing and English. My tutoring philosophy is simple: work my way out of a job as quickly as possible. Give the student study skills, tools and confidence to get to their desired level of competence on their own. I don't give answers; we find them together. I try to add realism and practicality to the sometimes dry, theoretical learning experience. There is nothing more satisfying than to see a student's success and progress.I love music and sing in three groups that entertain at hospitals and nursing homes. I enjoy tennis and golf in sunny Arizona, and poker and watching sports with friends when the sun goes down. My bride of 46 years and I travel extensively for pleasure and to visit our two children and three grandchildren.

I received an undergraduate degree (AB) in Economics from Princeton University in 1978 and a graduate degree (MS) in Industrial Administration from Carnegie Mellon University in 1981. I was a certified substitute teacher in Arizona and I have substituted at the high school level at the Salt River Pima-Maricopa Indian Community. I have also substituted at various vocational and traditional high schools. I have taught a variety of undergraduate business courses as an adjunct professor at several universities, including Memphis State University, Western Connecticut State University, Quinnipiac College, University of Bridgeport, Sacred Heart University, Albertus Magnus College, Southern Connecticut State University, Central Connecticut State University and New York Institute of Technology. The courses were in the fields of finance, statistics, management, computer science and mathematics. I was also the Math Specialist at Albertus Magnus College within the Academic Development Center. In this capacity, I provided one-on-one help to students and administered mathematics competency examinations to incoming freshmen. I have also taught spreadsheet, word processing and database fundamentals at non-degree technical schools such as Connecticut Business Institute and Branford Hall. I have always enjoyed helping students and tutored graduate courses while in graduate school. Math and its applications (e.g., finance, economics and statistics) comprise my favorite subjects. I believe that positive reinforcement and goal setting are critical to student success. Building upon strengths and proactively addressing weaknesses in a collaborative way help to build students' confidence and self-esteem.

How do you learn best? What is your learning style? How can I best help you learn more effectively? These are the questions that guide me when I sit down to help a new student. A mentor once told me that there are no learning disabled students, there are only teaching disabled instructors. I am always looking for new approaches to benefit every student better.

I graduated from the University of Colorado Boulder with a B.A. in International Affairs and minors in Spanish and Sociology. During my undergrad, I spent a year studying abroad in Spain, where I lived with a Spanish host family and took all of my courses in Spanish at the local university. More recently, I have completed a Certificate in Spanish Translation and Interpretation from Pima Community College in Tucson, Arizona. In this program, I received training on medical, legal, commercial, and technological translation and interpretation. As a 2nd language learner of Spanish myself, I have personally experienced many of the common challenges that English speakers face when learning Spanish. Because of this, I am excited to share with students not only my love for the langauge, but also all of the tips and strategies that helped me learn difficult concepts. I tutor the courses Spanish 1-4 as well as professional tutoring for the CCHI Medical Interpreting exam. I like to tailor my tutoring sessions to each student and their individual needs and learning styles.

As a lifelong learner, I am driven to help others achieve their academic goals. I am currently a part-time instructor for math, science, and computers. In addition to having a Masters degree I have over 10 years of business experience. This has allowed me to help translate to students how they can use the information they are learning at school in the real world. I have worked with students of all ages and truly love helping students master the basics of their subjects so that they can succeed in their classes.I am most passionate about tutoring math and helping students understand how to break down problems. I work to evaluate their current comprehension and strive to build a strong foundation of knowledge. I often tell my students that math is just like learning another language. Once they learn to master the basics they are able to read and solve problems successfully. I care deeply about my students' success and I strive to make learning fun and relatable to their world.

I have a Bachelor of Arts degree in English and Psychology from the University of Toronto at Mississauga, Canada, and a Diploma in Teacher Aide from Penn Foster Online Career School.I am very passionate about teaching and learning. During my years as an undergraduate in Canada and while living and working in other locations -- Moncton, Canada, and Beijing, China, I tutored people of various ages in English as a Second Language. After obtaining my Diploma as a Teacher Aide, I assisted teachers and students in New Jersey public schools at all grade levels, as assigned. I demonstrated patience and flexibility since grade level assignments changed frequently, especially in my most recent public school job in Hoboken, New Jersey.I am especially drawn to the enthusiasm many elementary school students have for learning, based on my experience, and I especially enjoy helping them learn to read, or to read better. I am very passionate about English Language Arts and also about helping non-native speakers improve their English Language communication skills. At this point, I would like to focus on helping elementary school students, especially early elementary grade levels, learn or improve their reading skills and to grasp and appreciate English Language Arts better in general. I have always been a strong English Language Arts student and have always enjoyed this subject.Learning to communicate effectively is very important in life. Creativity and empathy are also important traits in life. Literary selections, such as novels, short stories, and poems, can help students develop or enhance these qualities. I have always enjoyed reading, and I would like to inculcate that passion in my students. As a firm believer in the importance of education and as someone who is dedicated to the profession, I strive to make tutoring a positive and enriching experience for students. I would like my students to enjoy learning for the sake of learning, and to therefore go beyond using it as a means to completing school assignments and/or passing tests and examinations. I strive to make my lessons engaging for my students by interspersing my instruction with educational and fun videos if allowed to do so.In my spare time, I enjoy reading, dancing, cooking, going for walks, swimming, and travel, amongst other creative interests. I recently relocated from New Jersey to Arizona, and my husband and I especially enjoy exploring the outdoors here.
