I firmly believe that most students have an innate ability to learn well, and that a good teacher/tutor can connect with students to draw out that natural ability. Thus, students shouldn't feel discouraged about learning, and I strive to help them keep positive, no matter how tough the subject/topic...

I am a Jacksonville native and graduated from the University of North Florida with a Bachelors Degree in Accounting. I plan to return to UNF to obtain my Masters Degree within the next two years in my quest toward my CPA certification. My favorite part about tutoring is the ???AHA!??? moment- the moment when it all finally comes together and a student understands. I can physically see on a student???s face when this happens and the excitement of it all finally making sense. When I tutor, I work diligently with a student to strive for as many ???AHA!??? moments as possible. Everyone learns differently and different things make sense for different individuals. In order to be a great tutor, you have to learn what makes sense for each individual. It is my job to find the right language to communicate in so that the information makes sense. Whether it is through hands-on-learning, visual props, or by simply listening and asking question, I can accommodate any student and their learning style. I believe that learning is understanding the material- not just memorizing it. I take it as a personal challenge to try and find the best method of understanding for each student and tailor my tutoring for each individual.

I am a graduate of University of Missouri-Kansas City and have extensive teaching experience in Spanish language and culture. My hometown is Topeka, the Capital of the Great state of Kansas. I received K-12 teaching licenses in the states of Kansas and Missouri. I have studied abroad at the University of Madrid in Spain and have taught Spanish to adolescents and adults. I also have a Masters Degree in Business Administration from Baker University and a Masters Degree in Pastoral Care and Counseling from Central Baptist Theological Seminary. I love working with individuals who have the desire to learn Spanish because it demonstrates that they are willing to reach beyond themselves are willing to step into the language and culture of others. The rewards of entering a different language and culture include a greater awareness of self, a greater perspective and appreciation of our global society, and an opportunity to gain tools to effectively communicate with others.

I believe that there are a few key steps that must be taken before being able to successfully facilitating learning: getting to know a student and building trust, discovering strengths and finding ways to utilize them, and building a love of learning and an enthusiasm for the process of learning, while continuing to feed that enthusiasm, especially when challenges are encountered in the learning process. Without these steps, the progress of the student will be much slower, if there is any at all.One on one teaching sessions are uniquely designed to better accomplish these steps. Perhaps your student's teacher has been too busy to really get to know him or her, or perhaps their personalities simply clash, which makes the learning process much more difficult for your child. This could have even led them to build barriers between themselves and learning.I can break down those barriers, discover your child's strengths and use those to help them conquer their difficulties. I'm very good at building trust with children. I worked as a camp counselor for 5 years with ages 9-18, and I've helped a lot of kids find their confidence and achieve things that they thought were impossible. I've also been working one on one helping students improve their writing since I was in high school. I started helping 4th graders with their writing portfolios at my old elementary school when I was fifteen, and in college I did a teaching internship there and at my old high school.I also gained a lot of experience in 6 years of creative writing workshops. I was lucky enough to go to Interlochen Arts Academy to study writing for the last two years of high school, and I spent all of college continuing to rigorously study the art of writing and the creative collaboration/critical experience one gets from writing workshops. I also learned a lot from getting a liberal arts education, where not learning what to learn but how to learn is the goal.

I attended a small private liberal arts college for my undergrad which allowed me the opportunity to explore multiple fields of interest. I have a BA with majors in history and political science in minors in Asian studies and international politics. I took a year off of school to try my hand at working. During that year I worked at a living history site, where I educated visitors of all ages on early American history. I went back to grad school for a Master's in Public Administration with a specialty in Organizational Development. I worked full time while putting myself through grad school. It's important to gain life experience as well as educational experience. Both make you a well-rounded lifelong learner. I continued to work as a nontraditional educator in parks in recreation. Once I earned by MPA, I went back to school (again while working full time) and earned my Doctorate in Education. I love helping students of all ages learn about history, earth science, political philosophy and literature. In my free time I coach softball and soccer--two sports I played at varsity level in college.

My name is Ariana Ray; I am a third-year student at Columbia University in New York. I am a physics major, considering a minor in math, and I love to teach. Physics and math are some of the coolest and most confusing subjects out there, and while it can be incredibly frustrating to struggle through a difficult concept, once it clicks, the payoff is fantastic you get to learn one more interesting fact about the strange world we live in. My job as a tutor is to help you understand your difficult subjects so that you can begin to do well in them and, even better, enjoy them. I am a patient, but rigourous, tutor, and I am happy to work hard alongside you to help you succeed.

I first discovered how much I love teaching during my summers in high school when I was working as a lifeguard at our local town pool. I had completed the Red Cross Learn to Swim/Lifeguarding program and was invited to return to the program as an instructor. Initially, it was more a love of the water than love of teaching that drew me to that first summer job I ever had, but I soon realized how rewarding it is to work with young people and help them acquire skills they can use throughout their lifetime.Teaching swimming lessons grew into helping my neighbors' kids with homework, and upon graduation from high school I entered Long Island University as a Childhood Education major with a minor in psychology. Since then, I have enjoyed my career as an educator, working with students both privately and in the classroom .When I am not teaching, I spend my time traveling, cooking, and taking care of my many animals.

While I have a lot of admiration for school teachers and the work they do, I think personalized, private one-on-one tutoring is the best way to teach and learn. Happy students and happy tutors make the best results. That's why I am a tutor!First and foremost, I think it's very important to create a welcoming, respectful and relaxed learning environment that fosters communication and trust between tutor and student and one in which the student feels empowered. I'm a very patient and considerate person but can also be highly competitive and these attributes of my personality come through in my tutoring style. So while it's rewarding to teach children, introduce students to a new subject or help them improve at intermediate or advanced levels, if a student comes to me with a specific request such as helping them ace an exam, I will do my very best to help them reach that goal. I'm always open to questions and discussion, I listen to my students and I pride myself in providing helpful insights and finding fun, innovative and effective ways to teach and help students retain information. I want to help my students distinguish themselves!Growing up I wanted to be a history professor and continue to have an abiding interest in history. I graduated from Rice University in 2006 with a Bachelor's degree in History and in French Studies and then attended the University of Southern California where I received a Master's in Broadcast Journalism and documentary. During my free time I enjoy photography and film production, watching and playing sports, reading about history and health and speaking Spanish.

My name is Tiffany Gray- Napier and I am passionate about learning and teaching real estate! I feel that real estate is an awesome career path and it can lead to a bright future with many opportunities. I earned my real estate license and then I went to move on to pursue my GRI designation and I continue to take additional courses to keep my skills sharp and broaden my scope in this field. Utilising my real estate license and establishing a career has allowed me to join the board for Habitat for Humanity, Young professional groups and so much more. The best career decision I have ever made was to switch to real estate! I love the ability to set my own schedule and not work a 9 to 5! Also more time for family and hobbies!

I am from Ypsilanti, Michigan and graduated from Hampton University with a bachelors of arts in political science, and University of Phoenix with a master's of business administration. I also graduated from the University of North Carolina-Charlotte with a post-master certification in school administration and currently work as a dean of students at Charlotte-Mecklenburg Schools. I have been in education, around the country, for over 20 years in various roles, serving in other educational capacities such as department chair, team leader and principal. He has worked for the U.S. House of Representatives and on several state and local campaigns. The most important moment in a teacher's life is when the "ah-ha" moment occurs with a student. That moment is the one that I have lived to see over and over again. When I see that moment in the face or eyes of my student, I know my job in nearly completed.I have taught many different course over my career along with some ELA, and business courses as well as physical education. My main course of studies was the discipline of social studies, including but not limited to United States History or American History, World History, Civics and Economics or Government, World Geography, and African American Studies. My focus is on helping students understand American government and American history. I try to tie in specific contribution of the many different communities and cultures that have made up the United States to help make clear the many contributions that went into making the country what it is today. My teaching philosophy is to start in a lecture format to set up the background of the lesson and then expand to a conversation where all parties can contribute to the discussion as we learn how and why situations and concepts evolved as they did. I will present information and ask for feedback to what we are learning and why it matters. As we get further along, I will ask students to help present the lesson as to bring about ownership of the subject so can all learn together.
