Moving back to New York in 2014, I am applying to Osteopathic Medical schools for the Fall 2015 cycle and I am excited to join the field of medicine.While in college, I held a job as an organic chemistry lab instructor and tutored, informally, general chemistry, analytical chemistry, and various English courses like grammar, American literature, and Elizabethan literature. My favorite of the set was organic chemistry because I was not only able to help teach the students the subject matter but, as a lab instructor, I also graded assignments and experiments.My philosophy about teaching is that "Patience is Key." Everyone is born with the mental capacity to succeed and so no one should get frustrated if he or she doesn't get "it" as fast as another person. Patience and persistence will always get you there.Outside of academics, I enjoy reading mystery novels and even keeps a blog of my own writings. I am currently a graduate student at Institute of Optics at the University of Rochester conducting research in Biophysical Chemistry. I recently graduated in June 2017 from the University of California - Irvine with two Bachelor degrees. One was in Biomedical Engineering and the other was in Materials Science and Engineering. With two engineering degrees, I feel comfortable working with students in all realms of Math and Science.I have experience in teaching students of all levels, in a variety of settings. Since my sophomore year of high school, I've worked as a Private Tutor. I have worked with students ranging from ages 10-16. After graduating, I applied to and was accepted into the New York City Teaching Fellows. As part of that program, I earned a Masters in Education, focusing on adolescent mathematics education and students with disabilities.Most of my experience tutoring comes as a Math and Special Education teacher. I regularly work with students after school on Math homework, ranging from Pre-Algebra to Pre-Calculus. I enjoy tutoring because it is much easier to get to know a student, and for a student to get to know me, one-one-one as opposed to in a large class. As a tutor, I always try to find a student's strengths and use that as a starting point to build on. I know many students dislike or are even fearful of Math, but it has always been my favorite subject as a student and as a teacher.
