Science Tutoring review by Steven in Park Ridge, IL
We worked with capacitors on this problem set, matching up geometric definitions of capacitance with ones related to charge and voltage. We worked on how to combine capacitors in series and in parallel, and calculated energy stored in them, as well. We also touched on Ohm's law, resistance, and resistivity, and how they compare to each other. There was a lot of information here, and I think I may have overwhelmed the student a bit, but she was also making some good connections and observations and had a good handle on the mathematics to solve problems once the formulas were set up. She is progressing well on this material.

Science Tutoring review by John in Park Ridge, IL
We went over atomic theory and naming compounds today. The student wanted to go over ions and oxidation states, so we made it a point to focus on those topics. I've left her with a review sheet with questions from both of our sessions from this week.

We reviewed through the majority of the student's organic chemistry today. This included carbs, lipids, proteins, nucleic acids, functional groups, and more. She came out of it feeling more confident about the material. We will continue with cellular respiration in our next session.

Science Tutoring review by Kate in Park Ridge, IL
I was happy to hear that the student received praise from her TA on her work for the prior assignment. Today, the student and I discussed concepts related to her third BME assignment. She learned how to use the Matlab functions that her TA required for the problems. She also made great strides in understanding and developing loop algorithms (her words upon solving the problem: "I think like a computer!"). Finally, we discussed the next project for the class, which involves using calculus to derive the analytical solution for the position of a particle from the given equation of the particle's velocity.

Science Tutoring review by Kevin in Park Ridge, IL
I went over some of the problems that the student had questions about from the FE review manual, first solving them myself, confirming the solution with what was published, and then writing an explanation of the solution method. Other problems will be addressed later, as well as anything else he has questions about.

Science Tutoring review by Syed in Park Ridge, IL
In order to prepare for a quiz he has coming up, we worked on an isotope chart and class review sheet. The isotope chart was a handout from his teacher, and he had some trouble understanding it. After we worked on it for a while, he was able to sufficiently answer my questions about it. He seemed to grasp the reason why it was showing neutrons vs.. protons and what the trends it showed were. The class review sheet was useful reinforcement for the other material, and he did well on it.
