SAT Math Tutoring review by Megan in Framingham, MA
We spent the majority of the session talking about essays- what graders look for, techniques, etc. We also did some diagnostic work with the reading section.

SAT Math Tutoring review by Ari in Framingham, MA
We covered the essay. The student needs to reign in some of her examples and longer sentences, but otherwise exhibits perfect essays. She will continue practicing essays for Friday.

SAT Math Tutoring review by Fese in Framingham, MA
I reviewed her scores from the first SAT test she took in January. She scored above a 700 in all of the sections except for math. It showed that she struggled most with math vocab, arithmetic, percentages, averages and complex algebra. We will have to increase her math score by 100 to 150 points to get to her target score. We reviewed all the basic math vocab that most students forget, and we also went through several arithmetic topics and sample questions. I assigned her an online math diagnostic test to complete for homework so that I can get a better idea of what she currently struggles with the most.

SAT Math Tutoring review by Rachel in Framingham, MA
The student completed the grammar homework I assigned. We reviewed any questions he had answered incorrectly, and discussed the grammar rules to which each question was referring. He needed further clarification regarding the proper use of adverbs. While he was able to correctly identify an independent clause in a couple of the questions, he had mixed up the proper use of punctuation when linking them to create a compound sentence. After we went over all of these rules/errors, he said he felt more comfortable, and wanted to try doing more grammar to solidify the ideas before we moved on to anything else in the book. I had him do pages 410-411 (I did not time him) to see if he could put some of these rules into play. He got 9 out of 11 answers correct in this section. Next, I had him do pages 412-414, on which he got a score of 12/18. He said that he feels like he's really starting to get the hang of' the grammar section of the test, and asked if his homework could have more grammar on it, rather than an essay (as we originally planned). I agreed, and assigned pages 434-440. I have asked him to time himself on pages 434-437 for 20 minutes, and 438-440 for 10 minutes. If he does not complete the material in the allotted amount of time, I have instructed him to simply make a note of how much extra time he needed to finish the section. I do not want him to rush at this point. I want us to simply have an idea of his current pacing.

SAT Math Tutoring review by Hillary in Framingham, MA
We went over a grammar problem set that I had sent her. It had gone well and she understood where her mistakes were. We moved onto sentence completion questions, an area we had only touched on previously. These went very well and she was able to identify words because of context, despite knowing only a few of their denotations. We also talked about the sections again and test strategy, such as not answering if you cannot narrow your choices. For next time, I will be sending her reading comprehension, practice of sentence completion, and general math review to begin.

SAT Math Tutoring review by Michael in Framingham, MA
Today, we worked through 30 questions on a practice test -- many of them had to do with interpreting data and/or plugging in information to formulas that were given. We practiced solving formulas for other variables, as well as setting up equations based on word problems. We also practiced working with slope-intercept form and point-slope form. We then examined a few problems where the exponential growth formula was used and identified the difference between linear growth and exponential growth.
