I am a graduate of New York University and received my Bachelor of Science in Finance. I also completed my premedical coursework at NYU and will be attending medical school in July 2015 as my next step to becoming a pediatrician. Ever since high school, I have tutored and worked with children of all ages and from all backgrounds. As a tutor at Mathnasium, I worked with elementary and middle school students to improve their math skills. In college, I worked for America Reads and served as a reading tutor for 3rd graders in a NYC public school. And after graduation, I spent my time before medical school teaching self-contained 4th grade in Houston ISD. While I tutor a wide range of age groups and content areas, I am most passionate about tutoring math, science, and college admission tests (SAT and ACT). As a public school teacher, I am also very familiar with 3rd, 4th, and 5th grade STAAR strategies and content. I have had a lifelong passion for working with children, teaching, learning, and math/science. I truly enjoy building relationships with my students and watching them grow academically. Besides teaching children, some of my hobbies include: hiking, skiing, swimming, working with animals, and enjoying the great outdoors.

I have been a tutor for 3 years now. I have a 4.0 GPA in college and am working towards a degree in Biology with the eventual goal of becoming a College Professor. I tutored for Golden West College in Huntington Beach, California last semester for Anatomy, Physiology, Chemistry, and Biology. I have tutored privately for these as well. I have taken two tutor mastering courses at Golden West and I absolutely feel I have a knack for it. I also have taught in other capacities previously to tutoring. I have been a teaching assistant for Microbiology, Anatomy, Russian Sports Massage, and Professional Development. I am currently an instructor for my men's organization at church as well as a Cub Scout den leader. This is my dead semester so I will be much more available to tutor than I was able to last semester. This semester/year I will be also tutoring for Human Physiology, Paper Writing, and Basic Math.So what can you expect from taking me on as a tutor? I will help you or your prospective tutoring student become an active learner. I will come up with creative and fun ways to make the learning experience enjoyable as well as comfortable. I will work hard to help, listen, and give the learning and studying skills that can and will be carried on to other subjects in you or your prospective tutoring student's life. I will basically try to tutor myself out of a job. That is the goal. I hope you will consider me as your tutor in the near future and look forward to meeting you and/or your prospective tutoring student.

I graduated from the University of Puget Sound with a Bachelor of Arts in both International Business and Studio Art. I spent several years traveling internationally before coming back to pursue an AAS in Paramedicine. I am currently enrolled in the program at OHSU here in Portland. My experience teaching is wide-spread and varied. I have done everything from teaching English in Thailand to 8th and 9th graders to teaching college-level EMT classes. Including coaching positions, I have approximately 7 years teaching experience. My experiences have taught me that every person learns differently and that the key to successful learning comes from a mutual understanding of a given pupil's ideal academic style. To this end, I try hard to find an approach that is tailored to the student's cognitive needs. I am comfortable tutoring the sciences (especially Anatomy and Physiology), math, French, the arts, literature, and essay writing. I really "geek-out" on biology and A&P because it never ceases to amaze me that the delicate and precise mechanisms that drive our existence came about purely through a long process of statistical expression and deletion of traits. Whenever I manage to remove my self from my studies, I try to get outdoors to enjoy our beautiful Northwest. I live for activities such as skiing, kayaking, and climbing. When I can't make it that far, I'll settle for soccer or waterpolo.

I graduated from the University of South Florida majoring in BioMedical Sciences with a minor in BioMedical Physics. I have worked as a Licensed Practical Nurse and I'm currenty pursuing my passion for the health sciences at the graduate level. My tutoring approach consists in breaking down complex concepts into smaller and simpler components that the student can express in their own words, writing notes and diagrams into increasingly concise levels all of which helps to solidify knowledge into a synthetic understanding of the whole rather than accomplishing mere memorization of lists.I also enjoy making scientific concepts easy to grasp to others and I find great pleasure in communicating and helping people gain a better understanding.

My earliest childhood memory is in a classroom in Germany. I started school overseas on an Army base and I remember feeling fascinated with my surroundings. New books, new people, toys, paper and crayons were all within my grasp and sweet faced old woman was standing in front of the room excited to equip me with the knowledge of how to proceed. I loved school and academia since then and gravitated towards the sciences around middle school. I knew from early on that I wanted to become a physician but I also knew that I additionally wanted to continue to pass the information that I learned on. See one, do one, teach one has become of my favorite mantras. In teaching students I believe in using real world applications to excite the audience about the material they are getting ready to learn. I believe the first 10 minutes of every lecture is the most crucial and typically start off with a problem/quiz that will relate to the information of the day to captivate the classroom. Interaction is a key to learning. I attempt to personalize it at every opportunity hoping that students realize that sitting back and passively absorbing knowledge is not an option or a key ingredient in the recipe for success.Another important aspect to teaching is incorporating methods that apply to all different learning styles. Realizing that students are diverse and you are constantly speaking to a mix of auditory, visual or tactile learners is important and should be noted with every lesson plan. The beauty of science is that the topic can be manipulated to accommodate all styles and promote knowledge.Ultimately, my goal is to give someone the same sense of wonder that so many excellent professors have done for me over the years. To quote Socrates "I cannot teach anybody anything. I can only make them think" and hopefully as an adjunct professor that is exactly what I will do.

I am currently pursuing my Occupational Therapy doctoral degree at Washington University in St. Louis. I previously tutored English during my senior year of high school and informally assisted with test preparation. I feel comfortable tutoring GRE, ACT and ISEE test preparation, as well as Chemistry and World History. My favorite subject to tutor is standardized test preparation because I find it rewarding to see someone's score improve. I prefer an interactive teaching style because I want the student to have input on their learning style and preferences. My hobbies include yoga, reading, going to the movies, spending time with family and friends and playing with my dog.
