I live in Phoenix, Arizona and have enjoyed the beautiful heat my whole life. I graduated from high school in 2007 and luckily got a scholarship to Arizona State University (ASU) and got my Bachelors in Science in Kinesiology. I am currently a tutor for chemistry and biology at Paradise Valley Community College and also am applying to pharmacy schools. My first couple years at ASU I was an undecided major, then I took Anatomy/Physiology and fell in love with the class. Unfortunately, ASU did not offer a physiology major, so I settled for Kinesiology: the study of human movement. I also took 20+ credits of chemistry and realized how awesome of a subject it also was. It is amazing how often chemistry and biology are used in our every-day lives. For this reason I love tutoring the subjects. There is no greater feeling than knowing I helped someone succeed in life, and I am lucky enough to get that satisfying feeling from tutoring. In addition to working and applying to graduate schools, I also volunteer at the Cancer Treatment Centers of America once a week and also at St. Vincent de Paul Food Bank once a week to feed the unfortunate. I love sports, go Suns and Cardinals! Lastly, I enjoy being active, from running to working out, I try to stay active.

Struggling with a science course at the high school or college level? Having a hard time structuring your arguments or ideas in academic papers? I am here to help!I absolutely love science. I take pleasure in learning about it (both in the classroom and laboratory) as well as going on to teach these principles. I use my passion to help convey the nuances of scientific concepts and will help my students develop their own appreciation for the material. It is my hope that my students will not only do well on their exams and homework but will be able to approach fresh material with confidence and even go on to help their classmates through difficult concepts or problems. I can work with students to help them master the material for a particular topic or to construct a comprehensive program for enrichment throughout the course. While earning my Bachelor's degree at The University of Chicago, I studied both the biological sciences and the historical context of large-scale research projects in Biology (as an example, the Human Genome Project). I then completed my Master's thesis in Transplant Immunology at Mount Sinai School of Medicine where I studied the methods the host immune system employs to reject donated tissues. I currently work as a researcher in immunology at the NYU Skirball Center for Biomolecular Medicine.Apart from my laboratory background, I also have substantial writing experience. As an undergraduate, I was a writer and editor for The Triple Helix Journal. This publication covers legal, ethical, and political implications of newly minted discoveries in science and medicine. Also, throughout my laboratory research career I have written and edited manuscripts for publications in research journals. I am available to help students find their voice in college admissions essays or to simply work on the formatting and clarity of individual pieces for class.I look forward to helping you to succeed in your science coursework and conveying your ideas and arguments on paper!

Let me help you excel at both Biology and Writing!Do you love biology, but find yourself struggling with your coursework or a few of the more difficult concepts? Are you preparing for your MCAT and need a refresher in physiology? Are you ready to ace your AP Biology exam or other science placement test? Are you actually NOT a science person, but need help with a required biology class that you're taking as a graduation requirement? Are you struggling with scientific writing? If any of those questions sound familiar, I may be the person that can help you out!I hold a bachelor's degree in Biology, and a Ph.D. in Biochemistry, with expertise in Physiology. However, I'm not just a run-of-the mill scientist! My real passion is teaching, and I have been teaching both high school and college students since 1997! I was licensed in high school biology in Massachusetts, and during graduate school, I participated in a variety of teaching opportunities with students in the Atlanta Public School System and in Fulton County Schools. As a teacher, my goal is to engage students and show them how even the most minute details in the material they are studying are relevant to their own personal lives. Instead of remaining bogged down in the small details (which are important!), I strive to always show my students the big picture so that they are able to understand, integrate, and apply what they are learning to new problem-solving situations. If you're looking to get a better understanding of biology, let me help you access your potential proficiency in this amazing subject!Additionally, I am available to help you improve your writing skills, regardless of the subject matter. I have extensive experience working with students who are trying to improve their science writing but I also have a background in English and Education which means that I have written outside of the Science disciplines as well. I love helping students improve with each writing assignment they may have and will provide extremely thorough feedback to help facilitate these improvements!

I am a native of Seattle and an alumnus of Garfield High School. I graduated from Whitman College in 2011 with a degree in Biology. I have always loved science, and I relish opportunities to explore the intricate workings of the natural world. I find a supreme sense of wonder in learning how the world works, and I delight in sharing this with others. Natural sciences (Biology, Chemistry, and Physics) are my favorite subjects, but I also enjoy Math, History, and Writing. I would be delighted to tutor students in any subject, and I am happy to help with standardized test prep, study habits and time management, college applications, and much more.Science may not come naturally to some students, but I believe that enthusiasm and persistence are more important than natural ability. I hope to share my passion for science with younger learners. I recently started a part-time job at the Seattle Aquarium as a mentor and supervisor for high school volunteers working on the youth-led Puget Sound: We Love You campaign. Encouraging and supporting young people's efforts to make the world a better place is very rewarding work, and I love getting to go to work each day.In my free time, I enjoy skiing in the winter, waterskiing and cycling in the summer, cooking all the time, and enjoying the company of my good friends and the great opportunities the Northwest has to offer. I love reading, especially books that expand my knowledge and my understanding of the world.

I recently graduated from Washington University in St. Louis in 2013 with a Bachelor of Arts degree in Anthropology. I am currently applying to medical school and will be spending my next year performing clinical research with Dr. Eric Strauss, a Sports Medicine specialist, at the Hospital for Joint Diseases in New York City.Although I have limited tutoring experience in the classroom, as a former captain of my college football team and captain of my basketball, baseball, and football teams in high school, I have spent a lot of time teaching others how to succeed both on and off the field. To excel as a student-athlete at a rigorous academic institution, I had to learn how to properly manage my time due to my hectic schedule. The time management skills, discipline, and perseverance I gained from football are abilities I tried to impart on my teammates every day to help them improve in all aspects of their lives. Since my college teammates voted me the team's Most Inspirational Player, I have gained confidence in my ability to relate to others and lead them through difficult challenges to achieve their goals.I find one-on-one interactions to be extremely beneficial for improvement in the classroom. I am very adept at working with others and think my time management and leadership skills will be beneficial to any student I tutor, especially student-athletes aspiring to succeed in both academics and athletics. I hope to move at a pace that is challenging but suitable to each individual based on his or her needs.Since I have done well in the prerequisites for medical school, including the MCAT, I feel that I will be an effective tutor in Math, Biology, Chemistry, Organic Chemistry, and Physics at all levels. Having attended the Hackley School in Tarrytown, New York, I am not only a skilled writer and editor, but I am also familiar with the intricacies of private school. I think I would be a great fit to help any students who are looking to take the Independent School Entrance Exam (ISEE).As a former athlete, I spend a lot of my free time focused on living a healthy lifestyle, constantly seeking to expand my knowledge about exercise and proper nutrition. I play pickup basketball and read regularly. I am an avid New York sports fan and love watching the Yankees, Giants, and Knicks.

I aspire to one day be a doctor. With this goal in mind, I pursued a double major in Cellular Biology & Neuroscience and Psychology from Rutgers University and graduated with a Bachelor of Arts degree this past May. While I am actively pursuing the all-important MD, I decided to take a gap year in order to get my bearings and do something I love. Tutoring has been a lifelong passion of mine, one which I have been engaged in since my freshman year of high school, when I tutored middle- and high-school age students in a variety of different subjects at summer school. In reality, however, my experience with teaching new concepts to students began well before this, as I helped fellow classmates understand what was taught in class. I pride myself in being well-rounded in my academic pursuits, and the subjects I teach range from mathematics to the sciences, along with geography, critical reading, and writing. Not surprisingly, my favorite subject to teach is biology, mainly because of the strong and long-standing personal interest I have had in the material, a passion that many students find infectious. I am a firm believer in taking a more hands-off approach to teaching, namely by letting my students work their way through problem areas with ample guidance. The quickest way to learn is by doing, and if I am solving a problem for a student, then they are not absorbing that information as well as they could be if they were actively pursuing a solution themselves. This is a strategy that has served me well thus far, and I have personally watched students improve vastly under this philosophy. As important as efficient studying techniques are, being able to kick back and relax is just as crucial. When I am not working or studying, I like to unwind by playing sports with my friends (soccer has been one of my greatest passions since I was old enough to kick a ball), working out, playing video games online, or just kicking back and reading a good fantasy or sci-fi novel (one of my all-time favorites is the Artemis Fowl series). Teaching is a passion of mine, and I look forward to working with you!
