I am currently a junior at the Macaulay Honors College at the City College of New York. I am majoring in chemical engineering, and because of this, I have plenty of experience with math and science courses. These are also the types of courses I have tutored in the past. I have experience tutoring Algebra 1, Geometry, Algebra 2, Trigonometry, Precalculus, and AP Chemistry to students from my high school in Queens, New York. My passion for tutoring comes from a passion for knowledge in general. I value education, and I believe that every student has the potential to excel in school. Sometimes it takes a good tutor to bring out that potential, and that is what I strive to be. I especially love helping students develop problem solving strategies, which is why mathematical subjects are my favorite to tutor. I believe that it is important to think like a problem solver, which means that students need to understand the "why" behind the equations rather than just memorizing them. When students struggle in math, it is often because they are trying to learn through rote memorization rather than by gaining a deep understanding of the topic. My goal is to help students attain this understanding. Incidentally, most standardized exams also test students' problem solving skills; they often need to apply information they know in a new and creative way. My tutoring strategy therefore works well with standardized tests, such as the SAT and the ACT, as well as with school subjects. In my spare time, I enjoy playing the piano or saxophone, acting, and reading.

As a seasoned tutor with a passion for programming and science, I am excited to offer my expertise and knowledge to help students excel in these disciplines. With a strong background in both programming and science, I am confident in my ability to guide and support students in their learning journey. My love for programming began at a young age when I discovered the joy of creating something out of nothing through coding. From there, my passion grew, and I pursued a degree in Computer Science to further develop my skills. Throughout my educational journey, I have gained extensive knowledge in programming languages such as Python, Java, and SQL, and have experience in web development, data analysis, and algorithm design. In addition to programming, I have a deep appreciation for science and its fundamental concepts. From biology to physics and chemistry, I have developed a comprehensive understanding of scientific principles and their practical applications. I firmly believe that the scientific method encourages critical thinking and problem-solving skills, which are invaluable in both academic and real-life contexts. As a tutor, my goal is to create a supportive and engaging learning environment where students can thrive. I understand that each student has their own unique learning style and pace, and I strive to tailor my teaching approach to meet their individual needs

I have been tutoring my entire life. While working towards my degree at UMKC in Mechanical Engineering I have taught statistics, calculus, algebra, trigonometry, physics, and prepped for tests like the ACT with everyone from my 10 year old nephew to my classmates in school. I don't think that science and math has to be as intimidating or scary as the world makes it out to be. Often times if we don't understand something, it's simply because it hasn't been explained to us in a way that caters to our strengths. I love math and the predictive nature of numbers. If I'm not in school you can probably find me in front of the box score of a basketball or football game trying to make two completely different worlds make sense together.

I graduated from Washington University in St. Louis with a Bachelor of Arts in Chemistry with a Biochemistry concentration. My personal and academic backgrounds have fueled my passion for effective education, which I believe can impart both knowledge and interest to a student. As such, I have worked as a tutor at Kumon for over 4 years, teaching students of all ages and watching them grow and succeed. My college peers often sought my help to parse difficult concepts into understandable pieces and to offer intuitive approaches to problems. I treat teaching and learning as an exercise of clear, open communication; the better the communication, the more appropriate the pace of learning, the greater the understanding between the teacher and student, and the more comfortable the learning experience becomes. With the sciences fresh on my mind and confidence about test preparation, I plan to tutor mathematics (up to Calculus AB), biology, chemistry, physics, and the SAT. But even I need to catch a break from the academic scene at times, which I love to fill with cooking, baking, and running!
