The student worked on his homework sheets. He covered the place values and conversions sheet and he completed the questions quickly and correctly without trouble. Next, he worked on the scientific method definitions worksheet, which he struggled with, until I created an example of an experiment. Lastly, he did a descriptive writing assignment about cats (a topic of his choice). We started out listing the parts of a "perfect paragraph" and he created an outline for facts about cats. Although he struggled with sentence structure initially, he understood later how to form full sentences that were in a more complex structure than the basic sentence.

I provided some worksheets and a workbook. The student reads well and at a good pace. He went through seven pages in the workbook at good pace; he did not rush. He does not need to read aloud to understand content. While he read, I gave tips for maximum retention which included him reading material twice and aloud the second time. I instructed student to read titles and headings because they are good indicators about content. He is very organized in writing. He writes very coherently and answers questions from reading directly. Furthermore, he is very focused. In this session, reading comprehension exercise helped him to strengthen his vocabulary, his overall grasp of material through reading and answering questions after, his writing skills, and sharpened his focus for future tests. He struggles with some vocabulary but he asks questions when he needs to and also does his best to figure out words by himself using context clues.

The student worked on an upcoming debate speech regarding US and Cuban relations. I explained to him the origin of the political issues between the US and Cuba using a blackboard. I illustrated a mini diagram and gave a timeline of US and Cuban relations. In addition I assisted him in conducting his research for the debate by compiling informative resources including articles, and videos that will help him develop his paper next week when we meet. At this time, he did not know the specific argument he will have to present in class, so we discussed both sides of the argument and found resources to support each argument. I told him that after the session he needed to go home and finish reviewing the resources and narrow down which can contribute to this paper. He needs to work on making sure he understands his assignment, and asks his teacher the details when he doesn't understand exactly has he has to do for an assignment. We decided to meet next Tuesday so we can work on his debate speech before he has to present it possibly at the end of next week.
