I am a Psychology major at ASU, graduating December 2015. I have a lot of experience teaching including being a teaching assistant for a psychology 101 class of over 450 students. I created exams, study guides and ran study review sessions.I am very friendly and personable and love teaching all subjects, but psychology is my favorite. I know everybody learns differently and I love figuring out which teaching styles work best for each student. Psychology involves many theories and abstract concepts so I find it helpful to provide real world examples that can help my students really understand. Personally, I learn best when I can receive the information from multiple sources. So when I teach, I like to do the same, taking material from textbooks, power points, silly videos, or even TV shows to further understanding. I also believe that teaching a concept really helps the learning process. I encourage my students, once they have mastered a topic, to try to teach or explain it to someone else. Being able to do this really means you fully understand. When I am not tutoring, I like to go long boarding or play my electric guitar. I love going to concerts and my favorite genres of music are alternative and hardcore. I also have an interest in fashion and photo shoots.

I'm a passionate Italian and French tutor. For my formal education, I started my French language studies (grammar and literature) in the 6th grade and continued on through my college years. I also studied Latin for five years to supplement my skills in both the Italian and French languages.I have a business economics degree from Bocconi University in Milan and spent a semester studying at the HEC Grand Ecole, Paris. Having lived in France, I understand the culture and nuances that are a very important part of learning a new language. For some, learning a new language can be a bit intimidating, so my lessons are designed to be fun and engaging. We will talk about your goals and objectives, assess your current skill level, and work at a pace that is challenging yet comfortable so that you can progress confidently. We can work hard on grammar and conversation, but we can also discover the French and Italian cultures through cuisine, songs, movies, poetry... you will love it! My students currently range in age from 9 to 70 years old with beginner to intermediate ability levels. Lessons are tailored to your personal needs whether you are a business professional, planning a trip, a student of any age, or are just looking to stimulate your mind by learning something new.

I recently graduated from Lewis & Clark College with a Bachelor of Arts in Mathematics. I enjoy doing and teaching math and love to think of math in real-life terms with lots of different kinds of examples to help as a guide through the abstract. Along with math, I focussed on both Computer Science and Spanish. I gained most of my Spanish literacy through two study abroad experiences in the Dominican Republic and Chile, where I took all my classes and completed all my coursework in Spanish. Since graduating in 2019, I have worked as an Americorps volunteer in a bilingual (Spanish and English) elementary school. Until Covid, I was teaching math and reading to children who were falling behind in normal classroom settings, as well as running an afterschool program. I have worked extensively at summer camps in both New England and the Portland area (Oregon Zoo and Portland Children's Museum). In my free time, I love to read, work in my garden, take care of my fish tanks, and play ultimate frisbee!

A long, long time ago in a galaxy far, far away, I matriculated at Centre College in Danville. There I studied history and played for the school soccer team. I left with many bruises and a degree in history. After a short diversion to serve my country in the Army, I moved to Louisville. I worked for the city and later the water company. I returned to school at the University of Louisville. I worked on a Master's degree in Teaching and certification in learning and behavior disorders.Once certified, I embarked on a career teaching. I have worked at three different high schools, teaching regular and resource classes, as well as coaching soccer. At the moment, I work as a special education teacher inside Our Lady of Peace hospital. There, I work daily to meet the educational needs of students with significant behavioral issues that temporarily prevent attendance at a regular school.I have worked as a tutor at various times throughout my teaching career. For several years, I worked evenings and Saturday mornings at a Sylvan Learning Center. Later, I tutored individual students through an organization called ClubZ!I tutor because it allows me to work one-on-one with a student. As a classroom teacher, I rarely get this opportunity. The opportunity for individual instruction gives me the chance to see real progress in the students I have the privilege to tutor.Outside of teaching, I enjoy coaching (and watching) soccer. I also like to ride my bike along the new trail through the Parklands of Floyds Fork.

I am a recent graduate of the University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign with a BS in Electrical Engineering and an MS in Electrical and Computer Engineering. At university, I taught courses in Robotics and Computing for several semesters, and was consistently named to the list of Teachers Ranked as Excellent based on student evaluations. My academic passion lies in robotics, in which my work and teaching experience allows me to tutor a wide variety of subjects, including Electrical Engineering, Computer Science and Programming, and the underlying Math and Physics required in this field. My teaching philosophy focuses on teaching concepts and problem solving skills. I believe it is important to develop a deep understanding of the material and how to apply it, rather than learning simply to pass a test. I work best with students who are motivated to learn and willing to put in the effort necessary to do so.

I'm a lifelong learner living in Austin, Texas. Writing and literature are my passion and expertise although I'm always willing to dip a toe whenever possible. I've been told I'm an affable and approachable tutor and person. I believe in catering my approach to each student's learning style. There's no 'wrong' way to learn!I received my Bachelor's degree in Creative Writing at Metropolitan State University Denver in 2015. I first started tutoring in high school by participating in an after school reading program for elementary students and continued into college. At MSU Denver I held two official tutoring positions through the First Year Success Program's Supplemental Instruction and the federally funded program TRiO Student Success Services. Although I've tutored in multiple subjects my passion lies with writing. When I'm not writing or reading I enjoy walks with my dog Tenshi, baking and the occasional craft (I minored in Studio Art so I fancy myself an amateur artist).

I graduated from the University of Arkansas at Fayetteville with a Masters of Arts in Teaching and a Bachelor's of Arts in English. I am a CRLA Certified Tutor and have educated from k-12, secondary and post secondary. I specialize in the learning of the English language and the art of writing. Outside of academia, I dabble in the art of music production and poetry. I coach soccer and frequent museums. My content area deals with the English language and the reading and writing within it. Literature, as Robert Scholes puts it,"is not merely an academic experience, but a way of accepting the fact that our lives are of limited duration and that whatever satisfaction we achieve in life must come though our strength of our engagement with what is around us. We do well to read our lives with the same intensity we develop from learning to read our texts."

I am a graduate of Princeton University, where I earned a bachelor's degree in economics. My work experience includes 5+ years as an investment analyst at a private wealth management firm and 18 months at a digital media start-up. I first began tutoring in high school and have successfully helped many middle school and high school students improve their grades and/or prepare for standardized tests. While I'm comfortable teaching in many subject areas, my specialty is standardized test preparation. In addition to having a strong understanding of the subject matter covered on these exams, test-taking strategy is a strength of mine, including time management and general multiple choice strategy. I was a National Merit Scholar and AP Scholar with Distinction in high school and I enjoy helping others perform to the best of their ability on these sometimes stressful exams. As a tutor, I strive to keep students engaged by employing a more hands-on approach to learning. I aim to minimize time spent "lecturing" and instead focus on working together with students to solve problems. I've found tutoring sessions to be most productive when students remain actively involved in the learning process.I played soccer through college and remain an avid sports fan. In my free time I enjoy reading, swimming, and playing basketball.

Frequently Asked Questions
Neurochemistry combines chemistry concepts with neurobiology, requiring students to understand not just how molecules work in isolation, but how they function within the complex nervous system. Many students struggle because it demands visualizing abstract molecular interactions while simultaneously grasping their physiological consequences—like how a neurotransmitter binding to a receptor triggers a cascade of cellular events.
A personalized tutor can help you build mental models of these processes, breaking down complex pathways into understandable steps and connecting theoretical chemistry to real neural function, which transforms the subject from memorization into genuine understanding.
True understanding comes from learning the 'why' behind each step. Instead of memorizing that dopamine increases in reward pathways, you should understand why dopamine molecules have the chemical structure they do, how that structure allows them to bind to specific receptors, and what happens at the cellular level when that binding occurs.
Working with a tutor on mechanism-based learning—drawing out molecular structures, tracing electron movement, and connecting chemical properties to biological effects—helps you see the underlying logic. This approach makes the material stick because you're building a coherent framework rather than isolated facts.
Neurochemistry lab work typically involves techniques like chromatography, spectroscopy, electrophysiology, and chemical assays to measure neurotransmitter levels or receptor activity. Beyond performing procedures, students need to understand why each technique works, what data it produces, and how to troubleshoot when results are unexpected.
Personalized tutoring can strengthen both your technical execution and your scientific reasoning—helping you design experiments logically, interpret results critically, and connect lab observations back to neurochemical theory. This builds the problem-solving mindset that makes you independent in the lab.
Neurochemistry calculations often involve unit conversions (molar concentrations, dosage calculations), kinetics equations (describing how quickly neurotransmitters are released or reuptaken), and statistical analysis of experimental data. Students often get stuck not because the math is inherently difficult, but because they don't understand what the equation represents chemically or biologically.
A tutor can help you master the mathematical tools while always anchoring them to their neurochemical meaning—so you understand that a Michaelis-Menten equation describes enzyme kinetics of a specific transporter, not just plug numbers into a formula. This dual understanding makes calculations meaningful and memorable.
The best neurochemistry tutors combine strong chemistry fundamentals with neuroscience knowledge, and crucially, they can explain how the two fields intersect. They should be able to visualize abstract molecular processes, design explanations that match your learning style, and help you move from rote memorization to conceptual mastery.
Varsity Tutors connects you with tutors who excel at making connections between chemistry and neurobiology, adapting their explanations to your needs, and asking questions that deepen your understanding rather than just giving you answers. They focus on building your scientific reasoning skills alongside content knowledge.
Absolutely. Personalized 1-on-1 instruction is particularly effective for complex subjects because tutors can identify exactly where your understanding breaks down—whether it's the chemistry, the biology, or the connection between them—and address those gaps directly. This targeted approach typically improves both your grasp of concepts and your exam performance simultaneously.
Beyond homework help and test prep, a tutor helps you develop the thinking skills neurochemistry demands: visualizing molecular structures and their interactions, reasoning through multi-step pathways, and applying concepts to real neuroscientific questions. These skills serve you well in advanced courses and research settings.
The timeline varies depending on your chemistry background and how much time you invest, but most students benefit from consistent, focused tutoring over several weeks to build genuine confidence. Early sessions often focus on filling chemistry gaps or clarifying foundational concepts, while later sessions dive deeper into complex pathways and applications.
With personalized instruction, many students report feeling noticeably more comfortable within 4-6 weeks of regular sessions—enough to handle coursework independently and approach problem-solving with logic rather than panic. The key is regular practice combined with guidance that helps you build understanding progressively.
