My name is Elyse and I am from California, USA but currently live in Mexico City, Mexico. I have a degree in Accounting and have 3 months of experience teaching business courses in China. I have a teaching certification to teach business courses to children through adult age. I enjoy doing yoga daily, taking daily walks, and trying new things I have never experienced before. I am a graduate of Brigham Young University. I received my Bachelors of Science degree in Nutritional Science. I also received a minor in French Language. After graduation, my wife and I moved to New York City where I am currently working on my Masters degree in Human Nutrition at Columbia University in the city of New York. My plans include attending medical school upon completion of my Masters.I worked as a tutor at Brigham Young University for two years. During these two years, I tutored students in most science subjects including Biology, Chemistry, Anatomy and Physiology, Physics, and Nutrition. I have also tutored students in French. I took French 1-4 in high school and completed a minor in French Language. I also completed a study abroad to Paris, France. While working as a tutor, I have learned two things specifically that improve the learning environment. The first is that each individual possesses a unique style of learning. It is important that I understand that style of learning so that real growth can be accomplished. The second is that teaching and learning are not two separate activities. As a student teaches principles they are learning they are able to understand those principles at a deeper level.I was born and raised in North Carolina and I am a NC State fan. I love watching college football and basketball. I played football and soccer in high school and continue to play whenever a chance arises. I also enjoy spending time with my wife seeing the sites of New York City! I have five brothers and sisters and we all love getting together whenever can. I first suspected that I would enjoy teaching in high school, when I tutored a friend in Latin and found that I enjoyed working with others to share my knowledge. This was reinforced during my undergraduate studies, when I worked with the university tutoring office, and was confirmed in graduate school, when I found I had a greater passion for teaching than for research. I have been involved in education ever since, tutoring students independent, serving as the math tutor at ITT Technical Institute, and most recently as a substitute teacher, where my greatest joy comes when I am given the opportunity to work with and assist the students.I excel in teaching languages, particularly Latin and Ancient Greek, and I have found that I have an aptitude for conveying math concepts in a way that is understandable and approachable for students. I remember my own challenges when I learned new concepts, and I try to draw on those to anticipate problems that my students may have.Whatever challenges you may face, I will happily and patiently work with you to solve them; if we can't resolve them in one session, I will research tools to help for the next session. From the time I was very young, I was an avid learner. My love of learning continues to this day. I graduated as valedictorian of my high school class and with highest honors from my college class. I majored in Arts Administration and minored in Spanish. For the past 5 years, I have taught piano lessons, and love seeing students succeed and improve.I specialize in tutoring Spanish, piano, math, and English. Fifteen years ago, I took my first piano lesson, and have been playing ever since. As part of my college entrance exam, I performed 2 classical piano pieces and passed the exam. I have been studying Spanish for nine years. As my college minor, I have taken advanced literature, communication, and writing courses.
