Economics is just about figuring out people, and what's a more interesting topic than people? You've been an Economist ever since you were a kid and figured out that when you start crying, your parents give you a cookie to shut up. All those weird vocab terms are ideas you figured in elementary school and actually understand so well, you just never realized they had names.I've always been fascinated by looking for explanations of the world around me and when I was introduced to the Economic way of thinking in College at FSU (Go 'Noles), I knew I had found the perspective that worked best for me. I received both my Bachelor and Master degrees in International Affairs (which covers most of the social sciences like History, Geography, Anthroplogy, etc.) with a focus on Economics from there.I've taught both on-campus and online to everyone from charter high school students who had been kicked out of every public school and were on their last chance to (literally) rocket scientists who were going for their business degrees so they could go into management. When I'm not studying or tutoring in Economics, I spend a lot of my other time attending and helping produce live theatre.I'm going to be talking to someone about Econ, anyways. Let's schedule a time and it could be you!

I was once in the same shoes of many Varsity Tutors' students. I was struggling to learn my subjects and preparing for the SAT standardized test. I came from a rural high school (DuBois, PA) with no AP classes as well as no Honors classes. I was projected that engineering would be too difficult for me and that I should pursue something less rigorous. I ended up graduating with a Honors degree in chemical engineering and a minor in mathematics from the Pennsylvania State University. I then received a Ph.D. in chemical engineering from Carnegie Mellon University doing all of my research work with Sandia National Laboratories. I achieved these goals by setting high expectations for myself and striving every day to meet these expectations. I am a tutor that predominantly focuses on STEM and Business subjects from high school through graduate school as well as standardized tests. I really do not have a favorite subject here. I just enjoy teaching students who desire to learn and improve themselves. When I was an undergraduate student as well as a teaching assistant in graduate school teaching first semester students, I could take a person the night before the exam that had no clue of what was going on in class and help them achieve a B on the exam the next day. Standardized tests such as the SAT/ACT exam comprise various courses in high school and I cannot teach someone everything they need to know in one night or if a person is weeks behind in the understanding of the course material. Whether it is a standardized test or learning another subject; an assessment must be determined of where the student is currently in their understanding of the material. Next a game plan must be put together to get the student from where they are currently at to where they want to go. The fact of the matter is unless a student has always struggled in mathematics since kindergarten, they can achieve a perfect or near perfect score on the SAT/ACT mathematics section. The only traits that are required are a high level of expectations as well as the desire and effort to achieve those expectations. When it comes to solving problems, I will always ask the student on how they would solve a particular problem. Their answers can range that they definitely know how to solve it to they have absolutely no idea. I would then guide them along through each problem with the goal to have them understand a correct approach needed and to instill in the student a better understanding of the material as time goes along. As far as more information about myself, I am a person that enjoys learning and growing in all pursuits and my favorite hobby is working out and lifting weights at my local Planet Fitness. Additional Information: I am a STEM based tutor for Varsity Tutors in which I tutor everything from entry level to advanced subjects in Chemistry, Physics, Mathematics, Statistics, Computer Science, all Engineering disciplines, and MBA courses. I am continuously adding both courses in an individual field as well as fields themselves to tutor. I tutor from 6th grade to graduate school as well as students with mental disabilities. I help students from inner city schools to the top boarding schools in the US to state public universities as well as the ivy league. I work with students at international universities along with international students in the US as well as adults going back to school.

"Not everything that counts can be counted, and not everything that can be counted counts." -Albert EinsteinIn this world of standardized tests and teaching to the lowest common denominator, students are falling through the cracks. It is my mission to help people realize how easy education and subjects can be. If someone fails a class it is the failing of the instructor not the student. We used to have these values and I am trying to bring them back. Learning is fun and just requires work like anything else. I am trying to make education easy and simple.I am currently seeking to get my MBA from ASU. As such, many of my favorite subjects are business related. I love supply chain management and how it relates to everything in the business field. Understanding how logistics works and how interconnected everything is fascinates me. But as I got my start in mathematics, I try to relate everything to teachable theories that breakdown into simple facts. My tutoring style is often based on this approach. Everything is related as long as you are able to make that connection. I like to take something that seems foreign and break it down into its basic concepts and relate that to something that is familiar. I have found that small victories win wars.Outside of education, I am an avid hiker. I live in one of the greatest states to do it in and I plan on exploring all over. Outside of hiking, I enjoy travelling, beer surfing, couch surfing, and karaoke. If I am not out doing something, I am then snuggled up reading a good book or watching a great movie. I find that people who forget to take pleasure in the simple things in life often find themselves at a lost.

I have spent a majority of my life within an academic environment. Along the way I have acquired a BSBA in Finance and Marketing, a Juris Doctorate, and a Masters in Business Administration with concentrations in Finance and Management. I have worked with several banks ranging from investment to commercial. I have studied financial compliance. I have passed the Florida Bar Examination.I believe in tailoring academia to a specific student(s) needs, strengths, weaknesses, and requirements. Each subject is different, and no two students are alike. Mastering subject matter can be accomplished in several formats, not simply the most commonly used method. A strong foundation and thorough understanding of basic concepts permits the creation of an efficient pathway to more complicated material that can be easily comprehended at each stage.I have recently stepped away from the private sector in an effort to give back to the community that gave so much to me. I volunteer regularly at various organizations. I teach yoga. Now, I have determined that reaching back to my roots in the academia and sharing the knowledge gained can make all the difference in a student's education and enrichment.

Growing up with a teacher for a mother, I have always been challenged to learn. A voracious reader, writer, and student, I always loved learning. These interests were compounded by the desire to share the knowledge I acquired from each new topic of study. As early as grade school, I assisted in teaching my brother to read. Throughout our childhood, then high school and college, I have worked with friends, classmates, and colleagues as a tutor in a wide range of subjects. I strive to further my students' understanding of given material and engage them with new ways of working through problems.

Tutoring has been a passion for me since elementary school when I was first given the opportunity to aid my fellow students who were having difficulty. Since then I have always looked for ways to help those around me learn whether in professional or personal settings. I feel that learning is a major part of life, and knowledge is power. It gives me great joy to share what I have learned in life with others in order to give them the power to enjoy life a little more. Throughout the years I have helped other understand Math, English, Computer Basics and Spanish with great results with students from age 10 to 37. These experiences have taught me the importance of meeting the student at mutual grounds in order to build a team of student and teacher.
