Hi my name is Bailey and I am a current nursing student at Tarleton State University. I have a passion for all science subjects ranging from biology to pharmacology that has flourished over the past 7 years. I have a drive for helping others learn new and important information in order for them to achieve any goal they set their mind to. The highlight of every study/tutoring session I hold is to see the light bulb of understanding shine bright in all of my students.

My approach to teaching and tutoring centers around my background as a liberal arts student turned pre-med. I attended Wesleyan University and then decided after college to pursue medicine, completing a one year post-baccalaureate premedical program at Bryn Mawr College. Having personally undergone the transition from a humanities to a science student, I feel passionately that the sciences can be learned by any student, even those for whom it might feel a little more challenging. Working as a tutor for biology, organic chemistry, general chemistry, and neuroscience, I actively implemented this philosophy, finding creative ways to approach complex concepts. For example, I might steer a writing student studying organic chemistry to explain a reaction as a narrative of molecular interactions, rather than beginning with a complex problem.In the context of shifting careers, I have also taken a number of standardized tests, including the SAT, ACT, GRE, and MCAT. My approach with these tests emphasizes strategy over content; a particular vocabulary word may or may not appear on the actual test, but knowledge of how to approach a passage and its correlated questions will help regardless of content.

I am a current third-year undergraduate student at St. John's University pursuing a Bachelor's Degree in Biology. I have a deep love for STEM, and have furthered this by working in my university's biophysical lab focused on renal disease. In the future, I aspire to direct my passion for science into a career of medicine and clinical research.My favorite subject areas are Biology, Chemistry, and Math, so I look forward to helping students with these memory-rigorous topics that I have grown to appreciate.Let's stay positive and work together!

I have been lucky enough to have been taught by some truly inspirational teachers and am well aware of the effect they have had on my life and the choices I have made subsequently. I obtained a Bachelors of Science in Cell Biology and Molecular Genetics with a minor in Human Development. I have tutored extensively, starting in high school with AP Biology, Human Anatomy and Physiology and SAT E/M Biology while also editing essays and helping students gain a better grasp of syntax/grammar for their writing. While in college, I tutored students of all levels in cell biology and genetics in particular, and continued editing papers and essays for students. I am an avid learner and hope to share my knowledge and skills with students who are eager to learn! In my spare time I enjoy singing and playing the ukulele, playing tennis and staying up-to-date on new and exciting cell biology research.

While I am well-versed in many biological courses, I genuinely enjoy teaching microbiology with a focus on microscopy. This course allows students to learn of a new world that exists at their fingertips and one that they never knew existed.Outside of standard teaching, I initiated outreach programs for high school students to have the opportunity to be involved in research in biology while also gaining skills in presenting, writing, and analyzing data. My current focus is to help students reach the goals that they would like to see for themselves. My teaching style is a combination of active listening and tailored lesson plans that match not only the goals of the student but the learning style which works best for that student. My time as a graduate instructor quickly revealed that not all students learn or like to be taught the same way, which I take very seriously. Most recently, I earned my doctorate in biology from Boston College conducting award-winning research as part of a leading team in the field of AIDS research. Prior to this, I worked as a research assistant at Brigham and Women’s Hospital in Boston studying inflammation associated with kidney disease. I received my B.A. in Biochemistry and Molecular Biology, cum laude, from Boston University.My educational experience includes freelance tutoring in the United States and in Italy, NSF-funded training programs to learn curriculum development and student assessment techniques, and eight semesters of teaching Principles of Immunology and Molecular and Cellular Biology at Boston College. I specialize in teaching math and science, with a focus on helping the student achieve a conceptual understanding of the material that can be applied to situations outside of a textbook.In addition to helping students direct their talents towards a successful future, I also enjoy Italian language and culture, visual and performing arts, literature, and a well-prepared meal.
