I am a trained educator with a specialty in math education. Owing to my love for teaching and helping students to understand challenging math concepts, I researched into how mathematics ought to be taught during my doctoral studies in Minnesota. Helping students to excel in math has been my passion for several years. Student achievement and success is my focus so I do one-on-one lessons as well as small group sessions. I believe students need to experience the fun side of learning math without the usual math anxiety.Through cognitively-guided instructions (CGI), I show students other methods of learning math and arriving at the correct answers without sweat. I teach and tutor at all levels from K-12. Learning math should not be a struggle so in my lesson planning, I model how the work ought to be done, followed by having my students do some practice questions. I help my students to master the concepts before we move on. My lessons also provide for those who need differentiated instructions, in other words, teaching lessons tailored to fit the students' learning needs. My flexible schedule for after school learning activities provides some assurance to parents who like my teaching regimen. Feel free to schedule tutoring sessions with me on "Varsity Tutors" platform and together, we will work till you are comfortable with your progress and achievement. It will be a pleasure to have you as my student. I am certain you will enjoy my tutoring strategies because I endeavor to give students the concepts that will help them build mastery in math and be confident in their ability to pursue career paths that may require some level of knowledge in math. Students who intend to pursue college programs that require higher levels in math proficiency will also benefit from my tutoring lessons.

High School Physics Tutor • +4 Subjects
My name is Maisha and I am a graduate of Biology from UT Austin. I have a passion for learning and sharing this enthusiasm with others. I don't believe that education is restricted to the classroom-learning happens everywhere and throughout our lives. I hope to help students use what they learn to help them succeed outside of the classroom and well into the future. My favorite part about teaching is trying to help students overcome the fear and failure that can sometimes be associated with learning. And the amazing part about tutoring is that it's a two way street: I learn from my students just as much as, if not more than, they learn from me. In addition to my Biology degree, I also hold a UTeach composite science teaching certification obtained from UT's nationally recognized teacher preparation program. I student taught Integrated Physics and Chemistry at McCallum High School and stayed there to teach Aquatic Science and AP Biology for two more months. In my spare time, I like to read, swim, and watch foreign movies.

I have worked with students for multiple years now, teaching standardized testing mathematics, competition math, and general math concepts. I find that teaching others has always motivated me to learn new skills myself, and I hope my enthusiasm is contagious! I want to help you not only understand the material, but understand why it is exciting and worthwhile. I am a patient listener and celebrate mistakes. When I work with students, I make sure that they find a way to get excited about the material, and understand the connections between the various topics. I think that everyone learns differently, and I can help you find your strengths, even if you've always been "bad" at a subject. I used to find school very frustrating, but I have learned to trust myself and my skills. Since then, I have become an excellent student and hope to help you do the same.I'm now a student at NYU Gallatin, and previously attended Phillips Exeter Academy, the country's #1 ranked high school according to Niche.com. While in high school, I haven taken courses in Calculus, Multivariable Calculus, Abstract Math, Non-Euclidean Geometry, Machine Learning, and Data Structures. I have received a total of 8 perfect "5" scores on AP tests, and have competed in competition math for a number of years, receiving a perfect 150 on the AMC 12, one of only 27 high school students nationally to do so.I look forward to hearing from and working together with you!

Hi! I am a dedicated Special Educator with experience working in a variety of educational settings. I consider English/Language Arts to be my strongest content area, but am comfortable tutoring in almost all other subjects. I am an avid reader and writer, and a nature and animal enthusiast! I love to teach and learn by using a hands-on approach, and enjoy working with people of all ages.

I am a graduate of Lehigh University. I received my Bachelor of Science in Chemical Engineering in 2008. After graduating, I spent several years exploring various career options and gaining experience through different jobs and learning opportunities. In addition to my degree, I completed several courses at other universities to enhance my education and keep up with my studies. These included Probability and Statistics, and Biology in Society at Kutztown University, as well as a number of courses in biology, biochemistry, and veterinary medicine at University College Dublin (UCD) in Ireland where I lived to attend school for several months. I am passionate about mathematics and science, and math continues to be my strongest area. Beginning with tutoring a few of my classmates in high school, I sought out every opportunity to teach others and share my love and passion for learning. As a summer camp counselor, I instructed equestrian lessons to children ages 8 to 16 and learned to engage a group in an interactive, fun learning experience. I also had the opportunity through the equestrian program to individually instruct children with special needs including ADHD and mild autism, as well as serve as an assistant instructor for students with other disabilities (both physical and developmental). As a mother, I have learned to have patience, give encouragement, and I have rediscovered the importance of education. I am currently an education grad student and pre-service teacher I will graduate with a master's degree in secondary education in December, 2017. My goal is to become a full-time math teacher for either middle or high school. I equally enjoy teaching algebra, geometry, and calculus. As a tutor, I seek to ask at least as many questions as I answer to truly engage the student in an interactive learning session that will leave them feeling confident and ambitious. Math is a challenging subject for many students, and having faced challenges in my own studies I can empathize with students who need an extra boost and guidance to help them learn the material in a thorough, lasting way. I am passionate about teaching, and I want to see my students reach their full potential. When I am not tutoring or spending time with my family, I am usually either at the barn riding my horse or relaxing at home knitting.

While I can tutor in a broad range of subjects, I am most passionate about biology, chemistry, and writing. I can often be found in the library studying with my peers and helping them to understand complex topics that arise in our coursework, and have developed a knack for breaking down difficult concepts into terms that any learner can understand.

I am a graduate of the MA Fashion Studies program at Parsons The New School for Design in New York, having previously studied linguistics and foreign languages (concentrating in Russian and French) at the University of New Mexico in Albuquerque and at McGill University in Montreal. I currently serve as adjunct faculty in the Art and Design History and Theory department at Parsons, where I specialize in courses which combine numerous disciplines within the humanities, such as a course about the relationship between fashion and language and a graduate seminar about writing for fashion publications. I have also led elementary summer art camp workshops in my hometown of Los Alamos, New Mexico. My teaching methods, which are interactive, engaging, and tailored to a range of learning styles, have consistently been described by my students as motivational and encouraging. I tutor a wide range of subjects, from Middle School Math to PSAT and SAT test preparation, but I am most passionate about Critical Reading and Writing and Essay Editing. These are areas in which my students make remarkable progress in short periods of time and also find great pleasure in relating the themes of their writing to their own outside interests and passions. I also enjoy helping students prepare to take standardized tests by addressing, in an understanding and accommodating way, the common anxieties and stresses that can accompany test-taking. Outside of school and tutoring, I enjoy traveling, reading, visiting museums, cooking, and snowboarding.
