If you are a medical laboratory professional or pathologist who is planning to take an ASCP certification exam to advance your career, Varsity Tutors can enroll you in Indianapolis ASCP certification training to help you work towards your career goals. The ASCP, or American Society for Clinical Pathology, is the world's largest professional membership organization for pathologists and medical laboratory professionals. Certification through the ASCP Board of Certification affirms that you have both the knowledge and skills to perform necessary tasks in a medical laboratory setting. It can help you as you transition to a new career within your chosen field and allow you to ask for a higher salary. As with any exam, it takes a lot of time and effort to prepare for ASCP certification, and enrolling in an Indianapolis ASCP certification course can help you with that preparation.

There are over 20 different U.S. ASCP certification exams, the highest volume being the Phlebotomy Technician, Histotechnician, Medical Laboratory Technician, and Medical Laboratory Scientist exams. The prerequisites for each certification can vary, but the highest-volume certifications generally require a degree from a nursing school such as Ivy Tech Community College-Central Indiana or the University of Indianapolis. The Medical Laboratory Scientist (MLS) certification requires at least a bachelor's degree, and one qualification route for the Phlebotomy Technician (PBT) certification allows for the completion of the RN or LPN education program at a nursing school. The Histotechnician (HT) and Medical Laboratory Technician (MLT) certifications require at least 60 semester hours of credit from a college or an associate degree. However, most routes only require a high school diploma and additional training or job experience.

The ASCP certification program relies on Computer Adaptive Testing (CAT). This means your correct answers will cause the computer to give you more difficult questions, while easier questions follow incorrect answers. Most exams consist of 100 problems and last about two and a half hours, although there are some exceptions. For example, the PBT exam lasts two hours and has 80 questions, while the DPT or Donor Phlebotomy Technician exam lasts two and a half hours with 90 questions.

Even though you may have the knowledge and experience you need to complete your ASCP exam, you can still benefit from enrolling in an Indianapolis ASCP certification class. One advantage is that your class can give you the opportunity to interact with other students and instructors in a virtual classroom. This kind of interaction and collaboration alone has been shown to improve students' confidence and their knowledge of the material being covered. You might even be able to cover concepts and scenarios that you don't regularly encounter on the job. You might be relatively in the dark about this material, but some of the more experienced students might be able to help you. The instructors themselves have all been thoroughly vetted and interviewed, and they can provide you with additional one-on-one help if you ever find that you need it. These online classes are also much more flexible than those you might take in a college classroom. You will still need to adhere to a class schedule to a certain extent, but there are two-week and four-week classes available, and new sections open up every month, so you should be able to find something that fits into your busy schedule.

An Indianapolis ASCP certification training course can be a great way to prepare for your upcoming certification exam. Varsity Tutors can help you find the course that works best for you. To learn more about these courses or to find out how to get started, contact Varsity Tutors today.
