I have over 10 years of experience working with children and young students in a variety of different roles and settings; teacher, tutor, nanny, and intern. I have tutored young children in head start programs to improve their English and have assisted in literacy and writing readiness for preschoolers in a preschool cooperative in Brooklyn, NY. After extensive travel throughout Southeast Asia and Mexico, I have learned and have come to appreciate the value of the English language and the role it plays around the world. I am passionate about helping elementary students improve their reading, writing, and study skills as these skills are necessary for all subject areas. I am a strong believer in meeting students where they are in their learning and creating engaging activities that help them reach their full potential. In my free time, I love reading books on entrepreneurship and the environment, traveling, running, and the intense, but always worth the intensity, kickboxing.

Working Smarter and harder (minus the stress ;).Neuroscience PhD (MIT) with a focus not on simple recitation of material, but on understanding of it.I take joy in making material feel natural instead of alien. And I have special facility with 'debugging' problem areas that aren't making sense. (9/10 times it's because your brain learned a simple, *almost* true rule that sabotages understanding. I like to suss out those broken rules and fix them. :)__________About me:In addition to a background in learning theory (via doctorate in neuroscience) I have a great deal of experience teaching and tutoring a diverse body: from volunteer work with under privileged youth, to teaching MIT and Harvard undergraduate and graduate students, to enableing professors and post-docs to transition between fields, and even to coaching wrestling.My own hobbies/passions include both the mental and physical and include rock climbing, weight lifting, Brazilian jiu jitsu, theoretical computer science ("mathematical epistemology"), modern statistics, and economics and political theory. And I try to catch as much music and art with friends as a I reasonably can along the way. ;)

During my time at Bridgewater College, I tutored many classes in the Biology department, but my favorites were Human Anatomy and Physiology. I find Biological Science to be exciting and important. I hope to help my students to see it that way as well.I taught Martial Arts for five years, which actually taught me a great deal, including the importance of positivity and motivation in teaching and how fun it is to see a student get better at something.In my spare time I like reading and being active; especially running, hiking, and soccer.

But that is, my main objective is to help those who struggle in a specific area, such as Math or ESL, Geometry, or Spanish, be successful.I obtained my MBA from Grand Canyon University in 2021, have a post-graduate certification in Industrial and Organizational Psychology, a Bachelor's in Applied Business Analytics, and am currently pursuing a Doctoral program in Healthcare Administration and Leadership.Although this is my first-time teaching, I am very passionate about impacting others' lives and helping my students reach their goals. I have trained others in the past in different work positions. I am incredibly patient, understanding, and compassionate. The one thing that I will ask from my students, whether they are adults, parents of young children, or middle or high school students, is to bring the topic they are struggling with and the areas they want me to focus on the most. I am a current student at Williams College double majoring in chemistry and Arabic studies concentrating in public health on a pre-med track. I speak English and Latvian fluently, and am learning Arabic and French. I tutor a wide range of subjects, but I especially enjoy tutoring in the sciences because I feel that introducing students to the sheer amount of what is possible in the sciences is an amazing opportunity. I feel that an introduction to science should be molded around a student's interests because teaching a student about something that they are already passionate about will always yield the best results. I am currently studying to become an EMT and enjoy being in the outdoors and tinkering.

My name is Rohan, and I recently graduated from Stony Brook University with a BS in psychology. I am starting medical school in the fall of 2017, and I hope I can use my current free time to help others achieve their academic goals. I want to be a tutor because I enjoy helping people learn. I have been a teaching assistant for two different biology classes during college, and those were hands-down my favorite experiences during my undergraduate time. Also, I truly believe that teaching others helps me learn the material at a higher level. As a future doctor, it is very important to be able to teach people things. You want to be able to express yourself to other students and patients and talk to them in a vernacular that they can understand. You want to create analogies and tell stories that are helpful; only then will people actually internalize the information and actually be able to apply it to different problems and in the real world. I promise to give my full time and effort to each of my students, and I cant wait to embark on a new journey with all of them.

Since graduation, I worked for 2 years as an Advisory Consultant for a Big4 Accounting firm providing Assurance and Internal Audit services to technology/telecommunications clients in the Chicagoland area. I received my Certified Public Accountant (CPA) license in January 2021 and made the decision to transition from Auditing over to the business side of Accounting in order to try something new and develop a different skill set working in a Staff Accountant role.Although my primary background is in Accounting, I have multiple interests in tutoring subjects ranging from English, Information Technology, to Algebra. I am a people person and I really enjoy connecting with my students in order to figure out the best ways to motivate them. Then, I tailor our sessions around that - I believe that's the best way for students to actually understand the material and retain the knowledge after the test.
