Liverpool Sociology Tutoring FAQ
Sociology is the study of how society functions as well as its structure and development. It is an exciting field of study that can help us explain important things in our world, community, and personal lives. Someone who has successfully studied sociology is able to ask essential research questions and think critically. If you are looking to get the most out of your sociology course, Varsity Tutors can help you find a skilled sociology tutor near you.
College sociology tutoring can cover:
Collective behavior
Deviant behavior
Game theory
General Sociology
Marriage and family
Gender studies
Sociology tutoring allows you to work at your own pace and focus on your specific needs. If you understand structural functionalism but you struggle with game theory, a sociology tutor can concentrate on showing you how conflict, cooperation, and other models work. Likewise, sessions can cater to your individual needs. If you are a visual learner, you may benefit from your tutor using flashcards to memorize vocabulary words. If you are a visual learner, your tutor may use video demonstrations that provide overviews and examples of family issues.
Alternatively, your tutor can relate sociology concepts to your interests to make your sessions more engaging. For example, if you enjoy binge-watching television, your tutor can incorporate it into the lessons to show you how television and the media affect our communal viewpoints. Your sociology tutor can also help you make real-world connections with the material. Your tutor may take the latest crime story headline and help you relate it to the deviant behavior unit.
Furthermore, sociology tutoring can help you prepare for tests and sharpen your study skills. Your tutor has knowledge and experience with the material, so they can help you get ready for your exams by helping you learn how to take good notes and helping you plan how to spend your time before each test. Also, if you have questions, your tutor can answer them in a timely manner.

Recent Liverpool Sociology Tutoring Session Notes
We recapped the student's grades up until this point. He seemed to average a B over all of his subjects. We are going to focus on his weight lifting and health quizzes next week. He will be taking a sample sociology test that we will review as well. After recapping we completed Spanish vocabulary exercises and reviewed his first two sociology chapters. We discussed and developed theories that were covered in the notes and brainstormed real life examples that correlated to the theories.
During today's session, we focused on preparing the student for an upcoming sociology test. The process was fairly straightforward; I went through each page of presentation with her, and we discussed the concepts until she felt like she had a solid grasp. We spent a particularly large amount of time focusing on two especially troublesome concepts--status vs. roles and development of self identity. Overall, the session felt productive.
During this session, we worked on the questions contained in the study guide that the student was given for his midterm exam. This encompassed several chapters from his textbook and included topics on Race, Crime, Social Stratification, Social Deviance and Health and Illness. Initially, the student (who is a business major) expressed some reservations about the field of Sociology as whole. However, as the session progressed, he seemed to warm up to the topics we discussed, especially when he saw how they related to American society. Using real world examples to illustrate various Sociological concepts and theories seems to be the most helpful teaching method for the student's particular learning style. At the end of the session, he expressed great optimism about how he thought he would perform on his midterm and was able to answer my quiz questions and properly defend his answers. He worked hard and found that he had retained information on all the topics that we covered during the session.
We worked on the student's paper starting really at the second paragraph and then writing a close approximation of what the paragraph will be, the first sentences of the section, or at least the main point of each paragraph. Her first draft needs to be handed in tomorrow for class. We will meet again on Thursday, November 21 at 10:30 a.m.
I feel that we had a productive session, and I was impressed with his comprehension of the material. The student's primary task will be to compose effective reading notes that better integrate with lecture material in order to more successfully meet exam requirements. We had a good start today with one of the assigned texts. I have asked him to make a study outline for each reading, according to a specific set of requirements.
We covered quite a bit of material. We went over the material for the psychology class. We started by reading for 30 minutes in order to get a start on the assigned readings. Then we worked at designing a hypothetical research study in the field for a discussion question posting.
