I first fell in love with tutoring when I was hired by the University of Delaware as an in-house tutor in 2018. I had the privilege of working with students in Spanish at all levels, from novice to advanced. Since then, I have branched out into other academic areas including elementary education and high school/college humanities. My favorites are writing and foreign language, but I'm always excited to learn and grow with a student in any subject. I take a tailored approach to my students' learning, making sure that I understand exactly what they need and am able to provide it. I graduated from McGill University (Canada's Harvard) earning a Bachelor's in Spanish and Italian Literature. It was through practice, determination and traveling that I achieved my goal to become multilingual. I had the privilege to be born and raised in a bilingual country, Canada. I did my elementary and secondary schooling in French. In college and in university I decided to study Spanish and Italian extensively in order to work as a translator and interpreter. I have kept all of my school books, tests, exams, homework and exercise sheets since the 11th grade. I have a lot of experience teaching languages to children and teenagers. I strongly believe that the student must surpass his teacher. Therefore, today, I am proud to say that the eleven-year-old Vietnamese girl and boy that I tutored for 5 years are both attending Medical school. In addition, I am proud to say that I speak, write and read in French, English, Spanish, Haitian Creole and Italian proficiently. Whenever I tell people that I speak French, they often assume that it is not my mother tongue language because I have no accent in English. I am always proud to say that I did not know how to speak English until I was 16 years of age. Learning a language is like cracking a secret code. Once you decode it, the treasure is yours.

I graduated from Ithaca College with a degree in music education. After graduating I worked with a nonprofit organization called City Year where I worked as a tutor, mentor, and role model. Our mission was to work with students and create individualized curriculum to fill skill gaps and make sure students had the opportunity to be successful. I believe in putting in the extra time to make sure that I teach toward each student’s learning style. I understand that all students learn at different paces in different ways and make sure that each student is getting their best education. One-on-one tutoring situations are ideal for making sure that’s possible. I am patient, inquisitive, enthusiastic, and look forward to helping you reach your goals.

I have a BA in Latin American Studies and a PhD in Food Policy and Applied Nutrition.My mother tongue is Spanish; I am also fluent in Italian; and have extensive advanced fluency in French and German. I picked up my language skills while working and traveling to over 65 countries. My extensive linguistics knowledge coupled with my teaching experience allows me to help students struggling with learning Spanish; or writing college essays, term papers, dissertations or articles for publication; or organization skills to improve academic performance. Because of my varied travel experience I find it easy to adjust to students experiences and learning gaps in order to show them how to utilize the knowledge they already have and build on that knowledge in order to attain greater skills.

I have a B.A. in Drama and Italian from Vassar College, where I graduated with general and departmental honors. As a Drama major, I focused on directing and dabbled in writing, performing, and costuming as well. As an Italian major, I spent a semester studying at the University of Bologna, completed a translation for my thesis, and worked as a drill instructor for first-year students. After graduating I was awarded a Fulbright English Teaching Assistantship in Catania, Sicily, where I spent a year teaching high school students English language, culture, literature, and theatre. In my spare time, I acted in an Italian version of As You Like It, did a weekly guest spot on a radio station, tutored privately, and started an after school theatre program culminating in an end-of-year performance in English.In addition to tutoring, I currently devote my professional time and energy to theatre directing and producing. I am fascinated by the ways in which the arts can impact and enrich society in ways both big and small, and using this understanding to develop a culture of creativity and community.As a tutor, I find that empathy, a sense of humor, and flexibility are invaluable in helping others gain academic success and personal confidence.
