Education is the greatest asset a person can have. It's important, but it should also be fun to learn. Many people think education in general is boring when they have to learn about something. I try to keep it light in nature, using humor to help the student be comfortable, but also assist them in gaining confidence while they learn.Using personal experience tends to be helpful also when tutoring. If the student can somehow relate, it is easier for them to retain the information.When I'm not trying to help someone learn, I enjoy spending time with my son reading, photography, wine tastings and crafting. I graduated from Vanderbilt University with a degree in Art History and Child Development and completed my master's degree in Communications at the American University of Paris.I am a former classroom teacher at a wonderful Houston charter school, as well as several different schools around the world. I love the learning process, and figuring out how to best design a lesson for a specific student so that learning is fun, engaging and meaningful.For me, learning is not about drilling memorization facts. My ultimate goal with students is to make a connection with them and bring alive pre-algebra, phonics, the questioning mechanics of the SAT - whatever the student is learning. When a connection is made, we can bridge the gaps and make learning fun and lasting. Everyone can be a math person, everyone can love grammar, everyone can write a stellar paper. Every student is different, and every student can achieve success.In my free time I love running (I'm training for my second half marathon!), reading and watching documentaries. I am an avid traveler, and just completed my goal of visiting 25% of the world's countries. I am an enthusiastic person, and love meeting new people.

I am currently a sophomore at the University of Minnesota. I am studying computer science and taking pre-med courses. I've always had a passion for teaching students subjects they need help with. Whenever students come to me with help, I like to break the concept into small pieces. I make sure that the student understands these small pieces by visualizing the concept or explaining the concept in a different way. Overall, adding these small pieces leads the student to understand the main concept.The subjects I tutor are Organic Chem I & II, Physics I & II, CHEM I & II, and CALC I & II. My favorite subject is Organic Chemistry because I loved the critical thinking you have to apply for the course.

A tutor should not only be there to help students faced with a difficult problem or concept, but a good tutor should encourage and motivate students to overcome obstacles and help students stay on track.When tutoring students, I always try to teach not just the answer but the method to get the answer. I believe that the method of obtaining the answer is more important than the answer itself.Growing up, I was tutored through middle school in Math and English. I know the importance of having a strong tutor. I have experience as a teacher as part of the ADVENT organization where I spent three summers on mission trips to Taiwan teaching local students. I am a recent graduate from the University of North Texas with a bachelor's degree in psychology. Now, I am headed to Baylor University to begin an accelerated second bachelor's degree program in nursing. I have an extensive background in theatre, dance, and even pageantry. I have been working with kids in varied settings such as in classrooms, tutoring groups, one-on-one, in camps, and more, since I was in high school. While I tutor a broad range of subjects and grades, I am most passionate about teaching Reading and Math at the Elementary level. Part of the reason I am drawn to the field of education is because teachers must be life-long learners. I am aim to foster a love of learning in my student. I have taught reading in public schools for fifteen years with the last six years specializing in multi-sensory techniques to help dyslexic/special education students become successful readers and spellers. I am certified in Wilson Language and trained in Orton-Gillingham techniques. I have been both a voice teacher and music therapist since 1980, and believe that singing is healthy for us emotionally, physically, and spiritually! I have a PhD in Music Education/Therapy, an MA in Vocal Performance, and have taught students at all levels, from beginners to graduate university vocal majors. My teaching credo is that anyone can benefit from singing. People may think they cannot sing because others have told them that. In most cases, by working on students' listening, musical, or motor skills, they can find their natural voice! I can also teach music theory, music history, music fundamentals, world music, and music and wellness.Although my academic achievements are in music, my Jewish faith and studies are equally as essential to me, and I am glad to share my knowledge of Judaism and Biblical Hebrew with you.
