We continued our discussion of the assessment test, specifically, we reviewed the student's first practice test and examined the strategy of the writing section to adapt her skill set to the test.
We covered some grammar from the Writing section, and were able to work through 3 sections of a full length exam. The student showed improvement for his grammar questions and felt more comfortable when he could read the sentences aloud, so I suggested that he continue to practice reading aloud.
Timed the student in the math and English sections; her pace was good. We then transitioned into science, which she is least familiar with from her SAT studies. I helped her detect trends in data and extrapolate beyond the provided information.
Today the student and I spent some time reviewing grammar concepts and talked about strategy for identifying sentence errors and improving paragraphs. We worked together through the problems of these types that she had missed on her diagnostic exam to make sure that she understood the concepts. We finished our time by doing some work on her pacing and time management for the reading portion of the exam.
We started today by working on the math section. She has no problems with the content, but needs to be more confident. We discussed testing strategies and methods to increase confidence in her abilities. We also worked on the science section. We focused on interpreting graphs.
