We worked primarily on multiplying decimals. She got 100% on her quiz. Multiplying and dividing scientific notation: good concept, needs to remember correct forms for scientific notation. Comparing decimal place value: excellent work. Regrouping decimals: some objections to the "tricky" nature of the problems. Writing and interpreting decimals: perfect. Multi-digit division: excellent work. Order of operations: excellent. Adding and subtracting mixed numbers: excellent. Understanding whole number representations: excellent work. Basic set notation: review of terms and symbols; quick grasp of topic. Estimating square roots: very speedy, good memory.

He is a smart student. We discussed multiplying fractions and ordering fractions from small to large, and converting word problems to equations. Hel is starting volume in class, so we worked on the volume of rectangular prisms, triangular prisms, and pyramids, and will continue that work next week when he gets review work back.

The student's school sent him home with summer work, so we began by skimming through the material. The first two lessons were on number lines and factor trees, so we touched on a bit of both. We started with number lines. In particular, the assignment was centered on translating fractions into decimals, and vice versa. We will hit this more in depth when we meet next Wednesday. We then turned to factor trees. He figured these out easily, as he understands the difference between prime and composite numbers quite well. After practicing a few trees, he was doing them on his own. He even completed a few particularly challenging ones. We finished the entire factor tree lesson. Next time we will practice number lines more and move on to Lesson 3 in his take-home packet.
