I received my B.S. in International Affairs with concentrations in History and Italian Language and Culture from Florida State University. I also acquired a TEFL 100 hour certificate (Teaching English as a Foreign Language). I have experience tutoring students from all around the world in English as a foreign language.The key strengths that I possess include the following: in-depth knowledge and understanding of the European region and its history, strong writing, editing, research and analysis skills, and a passion for European history, American politics, Italian language and culture, and ESL.

I have my Bachelor of Science degree in Exceptional Student Education which has given me the foundation to know how to work with diverse types of students. I have my certifications in Elementary Education and Exceptional Student Education. I have also obtained my English for Speakers of Other Languages (ESOL) endorsement. I have knowledge of several research-based interventions to help students achieve academic success.I understand the importance of tailoring tutoring sessions based on individual student needs to help the students have the "tools" to become successful learners in the classroom. My experience as a tutor is extensive. I have tutored for about 10 years in English, Math, and Science in the lower and middle grades. I have extensive experience as an educator in teaching reading to high school students, as well as, coaching for tests. My education is in teaching with a bachelors and master degree from Eastern Michigan University and an Ed Specialist from Capella University in curriculum and instruction. I believe all children can learn given the proper environment and nurturing.

I have always had a passion for education. After getting my degree in Psychology from UCF I spent time at various zoos and aquariums educating the public about wildlife conservation. As my passion for education continued, I decided to become an elementary school teacher. For the last three years I have been an elementary school teacher covering all subjects and many grades. I love teaching students to enjoy reading by digging deeper into the content!

My background includes 10 years of teaching composition and literature courses at college level. I have previously tutored ACT, SAT, GRE, PSAT, admissions essay writing, and academic English, reading, writing, ELA for all ages. Previously I have also worked as a book editor and as a consultant and editor for Ph.D. candidates working on their dissertations in the social sciences. I graduated from University of Chicago and New York University and I also earned a second Master's degree in secondary education in English.

I believe that anyone of average intelligence can learn anything they desire to know. Accomplishing this may require all of one's curiosity, tenacity, diligence, and integrity that can be brought to bear upon the target, but with an undaunted intention to master the subject, their mastery of it will occur. I possess the ability to impart an understanding of a complicated subject or concept to another in a way that illuminates the inherent simplicity in it for them. If there is a modicum of willingness or a spark of curiosity within the student for the subject at hand, I seize it, nourish it, and use their resulting resurrected enthusiasm to help me bring him through any existing confusion. Together we arrive at a bright, clear understanding of the subject; and, importantly, they gain an appreciation of their new understanding and a confidence in their ability to learn whatever they want to know. I find the task of helping another in their search for a greater understanding of a subject or concept to be a source of great satisfaction to me, though I never pursued education as a profession. Tutoring provides me with many opportunities to do so; and who knows where the student's search for knowledge may lead them. With even further application of their faculties, they may then be privileged to become one to expand the horizons of that subject beyond their current bounds!

I am very excited to be working with Varsity Tutors. After taking a break from tutoring to travel North America and abroad, I'm glad to get back into doing what I love...having interesting conversations about subjects that can seem very boring. While standardized testing seems to drain the life out of every subject, there are ways to make it fun while still having the tools to ace the test. My style of teaching integrates the real world as much as possible, while still instilling a strong control of the conceptual aspects. I focused on Political Science and Environmental Studies in college, but also enjoy math, physics, literature, and fine art. I did AP and the IB program in High School and know how challenging it can be, but also how rewarding it is to finish! If you have any questions, big or small, feel free to reach out.
