I am a graduate of the New York University Gallatin School of Individualized Study. I received my self-designed Bachelor of Arts in Play, Performance, and the Creative Process with a focus on theater, music, and philosophy. Since graduation, I have set up camp in Brooklyn, NY where I pursue my creative interests as well as work part time as a stagehand and as a tutor. While I tutor a broad range of subjects, I am most passionate about English, literature, and writing. I have the most fun working with students on their writing because I feel that even the most academic paper is still an opportunity to be creative if even in a small sense. In this way, I get a sense of who my students are as people through their writing. My tutoring approach is playful, yet patient and even-handed. I try my best to create an atmosphere where students are uninhibited and unafraid to take a risk or be wrong because so much of school and life is about learning from mistakes and being ashamed bears no fruit this regard. Personally, I like to spend my free time playing my guitar, cooking, watching TV, or playing the occasional video game.

I cemented my fluidity in Spanish by studying abroad in Cadiz, Spain and taking a wide variety of linguistics courses at the Universidad de Cadiz. I have been a bilingual teacher in Arlington ISD for the past three years and have been tutoring in various capacities since 2007, having tutored college students in all levels of Spanish and German, volunteered to teach Spanish-speaking migrant workers English, and tutored international students at my college's ESOL Center during my college experience. After graduating, I performed one-on-one, in-home tutoring for students in grades K-12 in Math and English Language Arts. I also worked as a tour guide in New York City for three years, teaching tourists from all around the world about the city's unique history, architecture and culture. I currently work as a bilingual sixth grade teacher, teaching English Language Arts and Social Studies. As a graduate student, I taught a course in personal essay writing to Columbia University undergraduates. I have also taught SAT prep classes and helped students prepare essays for their college applications.I fully believe that writing and test-taking skills can be learned and that one-on-one instruction is the best way to help a student develop them. I also think it’s important to be patient and make the material fun while also being firm.I don’t tell my students what to do; I teach them how to do it.
