I am a graduate of the New York University Gallatin School of Individualized Study. I received my self-designed Bachelor of Arts in Play, Performance, and the Creative Process with a focus on theater, music, and philosophy. Since graduation, I have set up camp in Brooklyn, NY where I pursue my creative interests as well as work part time as a stagehand and as a tutor. While I tutor a broad range of subjects, I am most passionate about English, literature, and writing. I have the most fun working with students on their writing because I feel that even the most academic paper is still an opportunity to be creative if even in a small sense. In this way, I get a sense of who my students are as people through their writing. My tutoring approach is playful, yet patient and even-handed. I try my best to create an atmosphere where students are uninhibited and unafraid to take a risk or be wrong because so much of school and life is about learning from mistakes and being ashamed bears no fruit this regard. Personally, I like to spend my free time playing my guitar, cooking, watching TV, or playing the occasional video game.

I am originally from Buffalo, New York and am a graduate of the State University of New York at Geneseo. I have a Bachelor of Arts degree in Spanish with two minors: International Relations and Central and Eastern European Studies. I cemented my fluidity in Spanish by studying abroad in Cadiz, Spain and taking a wide variety of linguistics courses at the Universidad de Cadiz. I have been a bilingual teacher in Arlington ISD for the past three years and have been tutoring in various capacities since 2007, having tutored college students in all levels of Spanish and German, volunteered to teach Spanish-speaking migrant workers English, and tutored international students at my college's ESOL Center during my college experience. After graduating, I performed one-on-one, in-home tutoring for students in grades K-12 in Math and English Language Arts. I also worked as a tour guide in New York City for three years, teaching tourists from all around the world about the city's unique history, architecture and culture. I currently work as a bilingual sixth grade teacher, teaching English Language Arts and Social Studies. All of these experiences have definitely made my passion for working in education grow, and have shown me that I have an aptitude for helping people of all ages to understand the concepts that they need to reach their goals and improve their quality of life. I love what I do and hope to be able to use the knowledge and skills that I have accumulated to help my clients fulfill their dreams. In my spare time, I love to travel to new places and to learn more and more about other languages and cultures.

In 2015, I graduated from Columbia College with a BA in Comedy Writing and Performance. However, I have a long and extensive background in English. I started tutoring all elementary subjects while still in high school. I edited essays and short stories for my peers and some graduates while in college. I also took many writing courses while there. My great grandmother, grandmother, and mother used to be English teachers, so it seems to be in my blood! I have a passion for grammar, as well as performance. I currently work as an instructor at Chicago Performing Arts and as Lead Educator for Right at School. Teaching is so rewarding. I love being able to watch students learn and grow. It is important for me to relate to my students and make learning fun. I don't think people learn when they're intimidated or bored, so finding ways to connect and make the materials interesting are important steps in my process. I encourage questions and creativity. Every student learns differently, and I make sure I find those differences to come up with the perfect education method for each student. Please feel free to reach out with any questions!

I graduated from Clark University in 2009 with a degree in International Relations. I firmly believe I have good personal skills as well as a deep base of knowledge regarding international affairs, domestic politics, history, and literature. I understand that all students learn in different ways; some are more auditory learners, whereas others do best by writing and reading. My process is to determine what kind of learner a pupil is, then impart on them my excitement for the topic, so that they are eager to attain new knowledge. Outside of academia I enjoy screenwriting, film, and the science fictions genre.

Hello! My name is Carter. I’m a graduate of Northwestern University, where I studied journalism and international studies (with a focus in Europe and international security), and gained a concentration in gender and sexuality studies. Thanks to journalism, I’ve traveled and lived all over the United States, from New York to Los Angeles to Houston. My biggest passions are English and literature, and I love to instill that passion in others, whether that means helping someone work through writing a difficult essay or prep for the critical reading portions of the SATs. When I’m not tutoring, I love to read, craft and (of course) watch Netflix.

My academic work in the public school system includes a long-term substitute in high school and middle school. I was a Reading/ELA tutor at a Mano O' Mano elementary school. In this role, I engaged and motivated struggling students using creative teaching techniques. At the conclusion of the year, several students I worked with were performing at grade-level, which is a monumental achievement. I have also worked with academically challenged students supporting them in mentoring and coaching them to complete their high school curriculum to graduate. I have also worked as a private tutor working with students in reading.Professionally, I am an accomplished education and business professional who is committed to strategic collaboration of the global business and culturally diverse language-learning environment. I graduated magna cum laude from Brown University with a 4.0 GPA and a double major in History and Art-Semiotics. After college I worked in the film and television industry and then at a law firm conducting case research and writing legal briefs. Currently, I am a graduate student at Columbia University, earning my MFA in Nonfiction Writing. I write articles and essays, and I’m working on my first book.I love writing and teaching. As a graduate student, I taught a course in personal essay writing to Columbia University undergraduates. I have also taught SAT prep classes and helped students prepare essays for their college applications.I fully believe that writing and test-taking skills can be learned and that one-on-one instruction is the best way to help a student develop them. My knowledge of the subject matter, good communication skills, and ability to encourage my students make me a great tutor. I also think it’s important to be patient and make the material fun while also being firm.I don’t tell my students what to do; I teach them how to do it. The end goal is always to impart my students with the knowledge, skills, and confidence to succeed later on their own.Besides tutoring, I am a writer, editor, and filmmaker. I’m a native New Yorker with an interest in urban planning and city history. I directed, wrote, and edited an award-winning documentary film on squatting and gentrification in Manhattan’s East Village. I’m also a dog lover and avid cyclist.

I graduated from Jefferson University with a Bachelor's degree in science in Accounting. I volunteered in the learning Lab when I was at College to help students in Accounting and French to thank other tutors and teachers who were there when I needed help. Also, I have private clients in Mathematics, Economics, GED subjects and elementary school courses. In addition, I have experience working with students with disabilities. I am most passionate of teaching French, my native language, because I like to see students learning new language. Beside that, Accounting is a subject that I am always inspired to teach. Helping students and creating in them the inspiration to solve learning issues make me happy! I like to use many examples to demonstrate the courses for a good understanding of the subjects. During my free time, I enjoy reading books to improve myself, playing with my children, traveling and running.
