Which grade in?

Mr. D. was able to keep my daughter engaged and interested the entire session. He made her feel confident with reading. She stated that he was the "best teacher in the world". She gave him two thumbs up and a heart. I'm very pleased with my investment towards my child's education using Varsity Tutors.

What year in?

I want to thank VT for connecting me with my English tutor. I'm a 49 yr old that enrolled back in college to complete my degree and I was having the most difficult time meeting the demands of my writing assignments. But fortunately, I was matched with an educator that has made what seemed hopeless in my efforts to write academic papers effectively a piece of cake.

I'm very grateful to have found VT. They made the difference between a pass and fail grade for my son. English was one of his most challenging classes and with Varsity Tutors he passed the course. I'm forever grateful.

Do they have an IEP or 504 plan? (We have tutors that specialize in learning differences)

The tutor that was paired with my daughter was perfect and fits Bella's needs. Bella struggles with attention and has been on a 504 plan for years. The tools used, the interaction and flexibility are priceless. I was hesitant at first but now I'd do it again and I recommend Varsity Tutors!!

English Tutoring review by Patricia in Melrose Park, IL
We first worked on the student's school spelling words of this week. He did well on the first five and we practiced pronunciation on the others. Then, we did exercises in the same state exam prep workbook as in the previous session. I have started reading and working through the questions with him. When he gets input on unfamiliar words or literary terms, he does well in assimilating the passage content and interpreting the questions. He's interested in the material and doesn't lose heart, but he has a long way to go to do well on the state exam this spring. In terms of his prep for the state exam, we will continue to use the workbooks, focusing on making sure he know the literary terms and question formats to expect. For example, he couldn't understand a question that asked what something "referenced" in the passage. Once we discussed it, he could, and did, answer correctly.

English Tutoring review by Daisy in Melrose Park, IL
Today we discussed the student's homework. We named the mixed upper and lower case letters 4 times. She does these very well with the exception of lower case "b." She still gets this confused with lower case "d." I wrote a line of lower case "b" and "d" all mixed up and had her go through them twice to see if she could see the difference between them side by side. This did seem to help. We then worked on letter recognition by pictures. She does this very well. I had her take a water break, and I decided to read her a story to give her a break, which she loved! After the story, we went through her sight words twice and read 3 of her sentences. She did much better on focusing and getting words on her own. I was so proud of her...she read "little" on her own!

English Tutoring review by Erika in Melrose Park, IL
The student's mother informed me that the student had increased her reading fluency to the point she needed to be at for her grade. I decided to give a little more focus to reading comprehension and I'll continue to do so for the rest of our sessions. After teaching her a bit of phonics concepts and reviewing old phonics lessons I had taught her, we went into reading one of her favorite books. While reading, I asked her to tell me more about the characters, focus on the pictures, and respond to the story. At the end, I focused on asking her some specific questions about the reading content.
