I have been told that I am a "born teacher," but this is not the case. If anything, I was born a learner, and along the way I learned how to teach. To me, a large part of teaching is figuring out how people learn. I am passionate about education because I am a constant learner myself. I believe that a key element in teaching a foreign language is to keep the student motivated. My personal style of tutoring brings enthusiasm and cultural elements. I teach with a contagious smile and open personality that helps me to interact with a student as I guide them through their learning process. Florida prior to returning to the mountains in middle school. I love to hike, camp, fish, and kayak. I also spent a great deal of time mountain and road biking in the late 1990's. I am passionately curious and have done a great deal of traveling mostly across the U.S. and Europe. I love to journal, read and do almost anything creative. I have a diverse love of music and become extremely excited over things like fireworks, funky post-its, Christmas, spontaneity, Sharpies and more! I firmly believe anything is possible and that there are many alternatives to use in place of "I can't". ALL are capable! I was awarded both the Davenport Grant for study of public affairs and the Tololyan Fund for study of diasporas and transnationalism, with which I was able to traverse the Indian subcontinent, interview family members, and conduct independent research.This experience confirmed my love for stories and their potential to build compassion, and so upon graduation, I continued pursuing historical, archival, and educational work as a William J. Clinton Fellow with the American India Foundation. I spent my fellowship year traveling across the country as a story scholar with the 1947 Partition Archive, collecting the oral histories of Partition survivors and helping them realize the potential of their own stories in facilitating greater cooperation between communities for generations to come.I am similarly passionate about helping students as a means of helping them realize their own potentialmy ultimate goal, far more important than just going over any particular subject material or standardized test.
