I am currently a student at the University of Georgia majoring in Finance and Chemistry. I enjoy tutoring students and helping them to clarify any confusion they have. A tutor should not only be there to help students faced with a difficult problem or concept, but a good tutor should encourage and motivate students to overcome obstacles and help students stay on track. When tutoring students, I always try to teach not just the answer but the method to get the answer. I believe that the method of obtaining the answer is more important than the answer itself.Growing up, I was tutored through middle school in Math and English. I know the importance of having a strong tutor. I have experience as a teacher as part of the ADVENT organization where I spent three summers on mission trips to Taiwan teaching local students. I enjoy playing sports, spending time with family and friends, and eating different foods.

I was lucky. My mother was an educator, and I received an excellent public school education through high school. When I entered college, I had earned enough credits (English, Biology, Calculus) to be a sophomore, technically. I used the openings that created to explore some unusual subjects: golf, martial arts, and living in Mexico for a semester. When I continued on to my MS, I had a graduate fellowship with the Political Science department. That gave me my first opportunity to teach, freshman American Government.I am curious by nature. I see learning as an adventure. You never know where it might take you.

I love teaching! As a young person I saw my parents change the trajectory of their lives as immigrants to this country through education. I fully recognize the importance of learning. For the past two years I taught mathematics at the middle and high school level as a Teach For America corp member in the Dallas Independent School District. I know that the confidence that a student receives when they finally understand a concept that has alluded them is powerful enough to positively impact them in all arenas of their life, not just in school. Confidence in your own ability is a powerful thing! I am excited to be part of the Varsity Tutors program and to continue teaching and inspiring through education!

AP French Tutor • +17 Subjects
I would love to work with you as your French tutor! I took my first French class in 4th grade, and loved it from the start. I have a major in French Language and Literature from Miami University, with a minor in European Area Studies. I have lived/studied abroad in France on two separate occasions and have visited many different regions of the beautiful country. I have taught one year of French 101 at the university level and was a high school French teacher in a college prep high school in Illinois for 5 years. I left because we recently relocated to Texas for my husband's job and I am looking to work with students as a French tutor. I truly love the language, and pride myself in being able to explain even the seemingly most complicated grammar rules in a straightforward manner. I think learning a language should be fun, and would love to help you learn. I hope to hear from you!

Hello!I love exploring the wonderful world of writing and all its creativity and headaches (though I'd like to think with my help you will avoid the headaches). I am also a bit of a grammar Nazi and enjoy refreshing people's memories about grammar rules in order for people to read and better understand their meaning. Miscommunication is frustrating, and great writing that's clear and concise can prevent unnecessary frustration.

I am a graduate of Southern Methodist University. I received my Bachelor of Fine Arts in Theatre Studies, with a focus on acting and directing. Since beginning high school, I have spent much of my extracurricular and summer time tutoring, mentoring, and counseling students elementary though high school age. While a tutor a fair amount of subjects, I sincerely enjoy exploring English, Literature, and French. I love the English and Literatue because both subjects connect deeply to my love for theatre, and I love French because I have lived in France twice; once when I was 7 in Paris, and again when I was 16 in the Nord Pas-de-Calais region. I would say my teaching style depends directly on the student, but generally, I love acting like I'm a student too and find fun ways to address the issues they're facing in practical ways. I always try to get my students to appreciate the skills they develop by showing them how they're useful in everyday life. When I'm not tutoring, I enjoy trying new restaurants, going for a swim, practicing my singing, and going to acting class.

I am a recent cum laude graduate of Claremont McKenna College in Southern California, and this summer I will begin studying at Columbia University Teachers College in New York where I am working to earn my master's in Education for 7-12 English. I have worked as Head Consultant at my school's Center for Writing and Public Discourse for the past three years. I was a member of my school's Educational Task Force where I taught weekend seminars for high school students who were brave enough to come in on Saturday mornings. For these students (many of whom were the first in their families to apply to college), I provided college essay help and was the lead teacher for a semester-long photojournalism/spoken-word course. Last summer I worked at an educational nonprofit in New York to support educational workshops and help organize a College App Essay Bootcamp for 150 students. Two summers ago I was the Teaching Artist Cadre Development & High School Readiness Project Intern at an arts and literacy non-profit in Chicago called Changing Worlds. The next summer as Education Intern I taught, organized lesson plans, and created lending library for a preschool for homeless children in Washington D.C. I have studied French for nine years and have studied abroad twice - once in Brest, Bretagne and once at Universit de Vincennes Saint-Denis in Paris. For fun I love to write satire/humor for a website I created, write and perform spoken word poetry, and train for my next big running goal. I love helping students identify their strengths and build on them to become confident, successful, and happy studiers!
